  1. Why? If it wasn't broken, why change it? Would have been helpful if some notice had been given that it was changing for a while BEFORE changing it. It's not even obvious that it is the same as the Pub but with a different name, and I only found it because one of the posts was on the right hand side of the screen to link through. I was looking for the subforum where posters can look for info about the forum, but that seems to have vanished, or hidden. Perhaps it's still there and I just missed it.
  2. Good for them saying it like it is and putting the blame where it belongs- on Heathrow management.
  3. No, can't say I have, but I did fly out of Dammam airport ( Saudi ) in 93 which was basically a big shed, and the old Athens airport which IMO was diabolical. Heathrow is especially bad because they must make enough money out of it to do better, and it is the gateway to a ( supposedly ) world class city. Unfortunate then that they have stuffed it up so badly.
  4. When even the ( IMO ) disastrous Bkk airport ( Swampy ) was better than Heathrow, it says something. At the least Bkk airport had trolleys for passengers' carry on bags, and more toilets. I always hated having to fly out of Heathrow on Thai Airways, as they were always at the farthest end of the very long passageways, and those walkways were devoid of any decoration, which Swampy does have. Even the waiting area was vile, and at some stage was reduced in size so they could put in more duty free shops. Heathrow was horrible, from the endless underground tunnels linking Underground and Terminal, the unfriendly staff, the incompetent security checking staff, the atrocious design, the congestion and the overpriced "restaurants" to the looooooong boring passageways to the boarding lounge. I can't think of a single "pleasant" experience I had despite flying to Thailand from that <deleted> <deleted> at least twice a year for 10 years. I suppose that if there was one thing that would have made it worse would have been flying British Airways, but at least I was spared that ultimate attrocity.
  5. They are always good till they are not. None of the people getting divorced got married with intention of getting divorced. My ex wife was perfect till she wasn't.
  6. I believe that after being apart for two years one can apply to a Thai family court for a divorce based on abandonment. No need for ex partner's participation. Worth checking out if that applies in your case.
  7. I hope that 1,000 baht for lady at the amphur wasn't for the government official. Giving them a "tip" might lead them to expect a "gratuity" from every farang that comes after. I guess I was lucky in that I didn't have to bribe my wife to sign the divorce papers. She got more than enough from me over the marriage anyway. I can't believe that any wife soon to be an ex wife will take instructions on what to say from the soon to be ex husband.
  8. I wasn't asked. No reason to do so as any religious ceremony is nothing to do with being legally married in Thailand. Only the amphur is relevant to being legally married.
  9. That's the one that doesn't work, as I have found out myself.
  10. Oops. When I was using computer memory to log in it was directing me to the confirm page every time. Hopefully problem solved.
  11. If one doesn't trust the wife to be, should one even be marrying her?
  12. ?????????????? I never had a ceremony before or after the legal part. It's not necessary. Perhaps that ampur was making up their own rules.
  13. I agreed to them days ago, so why do I have to "read and confirm" every time I try to log on?
  14. Just to let you know I haven't been banned, but taking an extended ( voluntary for a change ) holiday. It's been an experience for the past 16 years or so, but sometimes the abuse gets a bit much, so time for a break, and maybe come back after a while. Just sayin' that the forces of darkness didn't win, and remember what Nixon said on his departure.
  15. Thanks for the replies. I learned that the path is easier via the neutral line than the earth rod. I thought it was the other way around, so good explanation. I had googled it before asking on here, but didn't find anything I understood.
  16. At least in Thailand they are not too expensive. I bought a few to bring back to home country as anything like that costs A LOT OF MONEY here. If you do, don't throw the old one away as if you leave the place you could put it back and take the new one with you.
  17. If there is ever a nuclear holocaust I hope it burns me up too, as the living will come to envy the dead.
  18. Easy. They are the sort than needs to be revered because they can buy super yachts. No point in having billions if not surrounded by sycophants. Where I live super yachts are in short supply, but plenty of those cars with huge grills that shout "look at me, I'm rich" in the rv mirror. I'm quite enjoying the discomfort of Russian rich guys in the present political climate, but with any luck western one's comeuppance is also coming in a time when we poor guys are going to be getting shafted big time by inflation ( already started ).
  19. The scientist, Joe DiMaggio, or was it Nasa's James Hansen, or was it DiCaprio, and not DiMaggio, who becomes seduced by the Marilyn Monroe figure, in the film, and was this character not based on someone like Megyn Kelly? LOL. IMO she's as seductive as a bar of soap, but it takes more than blond hair to turn me on.
  20. I think it is called the MEN system. Can anyone explain how connecting neutral and earth at the consumer unit works, please? Why doesn't the current just go into the earth rod? I just don't get how it works.
  21. I bought a stand alone RCD unit when I lived in LOS. Gets added BEFORE the consumer box. I think it cost about 2,000 baht but my memory isn't great.
  22. Because they can? Do you not think that if they could sell Snickers for the same price in the UK they wouldn't?
  23. The TBL theory of exchange rates:- wherever I go it will get worse for me that it was before I arrived. I went to stay in Ireland when for probably the only time in history to that point in time the Punt was worth more than Sterling, which is what I had to exchange. I also changed most of my spare Sterling for Thai baht at the beginning of the drop late last century, but it had reached 99 baht to the Pound the next time I arrived, but without any Sterling to change.
