Ignore the Naysayers ! Live the dream in Thailand
thaibeachlovers replied to Social Media's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
In Pattaya I once attended an expat meeting, not one welcomed me as a potential member. Never went back. Most expats I met while out walking ( in places farangs were a rarity ) studiously looked the other way to avoid meeting my eyes. Why would I even want to get to know people like that? -

Lack of culture in LOS???????? Place is full of culture. The UK, plenty of culture in London, but not English. Hard to meet an Englishman/ woman in London when I lived there. I lived the dream in LOS and I'll miss it till my last breath. -
How the Biden and Trump classified documents cases compare
thaibeachlovers replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I'm all agog to see how this will be explained away, given the furore over Trump's possession of classified documents. Perhaps that good old Thai saying, same same but different! -
Is it time for you to face reality and LEAVE ?
thaibeachlovers replied to Social Media's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
LOL. I wouldn't spend time on a golf course unless I was paid to be there ( golf- now that's a boring game ), when traveling I often went where other farangs didn't go, and when in beer bars why on earth would I talk to farangs? About the only time I talked to farangs was when traveling in the back of a baht bus. -

I miss almost everything ( I definitely don't miss immigration ) about LOS, but other farangs there, never. Had I wanted to associate with farangs I'd have stayed in home country. -

I will never understand any farang that complains of being bored in LOS and has to leave the country because of that. IMO it's the least boring safe country to live in that I've ever lived in. I fail to see why anywhere else would be "not boring" in comparison. One of life's mysteries I guess. There is a great deal wrong with LOS, but it sure beats any western country I've lived in as a place to enjoy life, and that's not just about the women or nightlife ( though both are far, far better than the meager offerings here ). I explored much of LOS and never failed to enjoy my trips. -
Chiang Mai losing its appeal—how to manage? [long post/discussion]

You've been here almost half a decade? That's less than 5 years. Fixed it for you. -
Chiang Mai losing its appeal—how to manage? [long post/discussion]

I wish posters would use baht. It's not whatever country one comes from that uses $ ( ie not just the US ) and exchange rates change. I'd be interested in how much you were paying for the place, but no idea what $600 is in baht, given I have no idea of which country's $ it is. -

Ditto. Having recently split from the wife and the family home it was the cheapest place with good facilities. I didn't want hot girls, so that wasn't an issue ( if I had wanted I'd have gone to live in Pattaya ). A very nice hotel room all included ( except meals ) was 15,000 a month. Gekkos restaurant short walk away for reasonably priced meals, Pantip just up the road for DVDs ( English language tv channel was rubbish ). Central Airport had a free transport service, to go see movies, friendly travel agent next door for local trips, I could have lived there for rest of life if I could have got the pension in LOS. -

Obviously not referring to the traffic ( jams are as bad as Bkk ) or the night life ( dead as the proverbial Dodo ). I have no idea just what is too fast, unless comparing to Chiang Dao village.

I had the feeling while living in C M that the council didn't actually do anything except spend their salaries. They didn't fix the pavements, remove derelict telephone boxes obstructing pedestrians, employ road cleaners, or put on public celebrations at New Year. Certainly did nothing about the traffic.

Comment about question deleted. I had to drop the nephew off at his residence. Only did it once, as refused to drive there again. Streets were planned by an idiot, IMO ( probably not planned at all ).

The time to die, should be of our choosing ?
thaibeachlovers replied to Social Media's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
If they are going to commit suicide because a BF broke up with them they must be incredibly fragile. Can't remember how many times my heart was broken but never considered offing myself as a result and most would be the same IMO. It's a parent's job to guide their children. Anyway, I'm not saying anyone can just go to a chemist and get the offing pills. One would have to convince a panel of psychologists that one really did want to die, and not for the proverbial boyfriend breakup or a sad song, that will be forgotten next week. I am saying that one shouldn't have to be in utter agony to be able to get a pain free exit. I have that opinion because someone that is serious will try anyway and may fail badly, ending up far worse off, and a burden for the state to support. If it was easy to do, I wouldn't be posting about it. -

Doomsday warnings for 2023

Not for nothing though. It cost a great deal to birth you, raise you, educate you, keep you alive, transport you to wherever you are, feed you, marry you, give you a pension, etc.
