  1. Someone by the name of Hitchens is being mooted. So noteworthy I don't know what he does. Problem for Labour is that she so dominated the news cycle that others didn't get much attention. Even during the covid lockdowns she took center stage and shut the health minister out. The problem with that is that while she got the kudos when things went well, she also gets the brickbats when it goes wrong, and it's been going very wrong recently.
  2. Just heard that discussed on the radio. They had an interview with someone from the UN and he pointed out that there are no vacancies that would be "suitable" for her. I guess that plan will have to wait a while. There was a news item on Al Jazeera about her resigning, so it's obviously international news.
  3. Ever heard of 3 waters? Ever heard of the methane tax?
  4. I can only guess you haven't spoken to any NZ farmers recently.
  5. Relating to NZ, what "democratic values"?
  6. Hopefully it will, when Labour is humiliated in the election. She was the only thing Labour had to attract voters IMO. They certainly can't stand on their record, which has been abysmal. Housing, 3 waters, methane tax, gun buy back, youth crime and more- the list of fails is extensive. In the opinion of many, it's National's election, unless they really stuff it up.
  7. Because she is the face of Labour, the party that has been in charge for some years now, joined at the hip to the greens, who seem more interested in stopping new hydro stations, than cleaning up the pollution. Listening to the radio, the luvvies are well into the cover up of her deficiencies. Seems she was loved more overseas than by the people she ruled, which IMO only goes to prove that it's easier to fool people that don't have to suffer under her policies. The news about her demise resignation spread like wildfire and everyone I spoke to was very happy about it.
  8. Can you tell me what a "climate change denier" is? Someone who denies that the Earch has a climate or that it changes? I've said as much many times before on this forum, but they keep on with the false claims that anyone who doesn't toe the line is a "denier".
  9. It was a major item on Al Jazeera news before she turned up. How much more do you want? It was a pointless protest anyway, as Germany needs energy and they cut themselves off from Russia with their actions. More people would be protesting if their houses are cold and they can't cook dinner. They were never going to win, so just another mob of the unemployable causing a disturbance, IMO.
  10. I never remembered our wedding anniversary, and my wife was pretty fanatical about such things- never forgot to remind me about "Mother day" etc. Perhaps that's why she became angry and horrible , LOL.
  11. In which country do they do so? Never heard of it , ever.
  12. I get the impression that China is educating women better than before. Whenever women get educated the birth rate tends to fall. One only needs to look at Japan where they have a falling birth rate, declining marriage rate etc. file:///C:/Users/Owner/Downloads/leader0002.pdf Japanese women are strongly inclined to reject prospective marriage partners without equal or higher levels of education, and as they acquire advanced educations, it becomes harder for them to find a suitable partner. Happened long ago in Singapore where the government was running campaigns to try and get educated women to have babies. https://www.aware.org.sg/2010/11/the-birth-of-awarepart-one/ An accompanying trend of reduced birth rate was that women with higher education were having a smaller number of children than women with lower education levels.
  13. Exactly right. Back in the 1950s cars were unaffordable for many- they used buses or bicycles. No reason why city dwellers can't do the same now as long as there is a bus service.
  14. What about us that are not right wing and don't like her, Harry or Markel et al?
  15. IMO most bar beers will vanish because it's cheaper/ easier to find some "company" on the internet. Obviously some will survive as guys like to drink and oggle girls, but the unpopular ones that never had many customers will be gone. It's not the time to be buying a bar beer IMO.
  16. Perhaps not everyone likes traffic jams and concrete. I liked it for about a week at a time, but had to get out then.
  17. Those were 2 stroke m'bikes. I remember well the huge puff of smoke as all the m'bikes at the traffic lights pulled away. Back then it was quicker to walk in Bkk than take a bus, the jams were so bad. The worst was the road to Don Mueang before they built the overhead expressway. Always stressfull not knowing if getting to airport before flight closed, despite giving it an extra 2 hours to get there.
  18. If I could have stayed I'd still be there, whether it's not as good as before or not. Whatever, it's still better than where I am. Sadly, my LOS days are no more. I chose to leave because I couldn't afford health insurance, and short of winning Lotto never going back. I envy all that still get to live in the best country on planet earth.
  19. Don't Americans need a laugh track to know when to laugh at "comedy shows" on tv? Perhaps that's because they are not actually funny.
  20. It would be a magical wall that wouldn't melt.
  21. Agree 100% with not having kids- a bottomless pit financially. I only know 2 families my entire life that had nice kids, and that doesn't include my family. So, I see nothing that makes me think having kids was a good idea.
  22. You do realise that we earned a lot less when young don't you? I earned about $20 for an 84 hour week when I started out. I could have saved every cent I earned and it wouldn't amount to diddley squat now. IMO the best we can do when young is not get into debt for silly things- best not to get into debt at all. I cut up my credit card in my 30s- best thing financially I ever did.
  23. IMO a major driver of costs in the US health system is people suing them for anything. They have to charge a lot to cover the cost of insurance. Most countries don't have that so costs are lower. BTW, if nurses were paid what they were worth the health system would cost waaaaay more than it does. Be grateful they choose to work for less than they deserve.
  24. What is that meaning? Immigration don't like tourists staying in LOS too long as the suspicion is that they are working illegally.
  25. Right! Whatever any other poster's experience, it's always down to the individual immigration officer to decide what is acceptable.
