    I thought states had primaries to select the candidates in the election. Am I wrong, or is Alaska different?

    Al Jazeera has become the "world cup" channel, but I learned that at least one of the stadiums is temporary, and one is beside the education zone, so might be used by students. Allowing for the pre exisiting national stadium, that's still 5 massive stadiums in a country with a small population.

    It's only my opinion, but I believe Britain's present problems were directly caused by the unfortunate practice in WW1 trench warfare of sending the best and brightest young men to lead the men ( as junior officers ) in the futile frontal attacks against an enemy with machine guns. I believe so many died in that insanity that Britain lost it's "brains" that would have led Britain had they lived. WW2 just compounded the decline.

    Oh the irony! A country that before WW2 still had an empire having to go cap in hand to the IMF to beg for money only about 30 years later.

    You seem to have missed the nuance in the reply. One needs an old fashioned British sense of humour to get it though. Seems to me a lot of people mislaid a sense of humour during lockdowns and can't find it again. Rare to see a happy person any more. Sad, angry world we live in now.

    Yes, that's how it works in LOS. Either accept it and don't do something that will see you banged up, or don't complain if it all goes wrong.

    We are all a bit silly when young, so I plead guilty on that. However, everyone knows ( or should know ) that SEA countries are tough on drugs so shouldn't be daft enough to use in a country one is not familiar with. I had a mate that was always offering me some of the wacky baccy, but I refused because I didn't want to be banged up in LOS for something I smoked weeks before, if caught up in a bar raid.

    It's always been the case for at least 20 years that raids could be carried out and pee tests done. Never put tourists off before covid, won't put them off now. The number of tourists that use such places was tiny in comparison to total tourist numbers and will be again.

    How stupid does a tourist have to be to use illegal drugs in a country that has laws against it? They deserve whatever penalty they get.

    Excellent way to end up as a guest at the cop shop. I'd certainly "inconvenience" you for as long as possible if I were a Thai cop and a farang spoke to me like that. I believe you are from the US. Is that how you would speak to a US cop?

    I always got off at On Nut when the skytrain opened. I liked that I could use the escalator in the mall instead of dragging a heavy bag up the steps. Also good for a toilet stop.

    Agreed, but surely it's not a very good system if that can happen? As an outsider it seems like a system designed by lawyers to make lawyers rich.

    Ahem. According to the radio news a while back he declined to return and will stay on his site. However he does tend to change his mind a lot, so perhaps he will go back, or not.

    Perhaps you didn't have to use the Chiang Mai office. Every year they invented stupid new rules, or changed the size or colour of photo, or changed colour of pen.
