  1. I actually blame society and the government. The government for allowing such a situation to exist, and society for not caring enough to make the government do something about it. Children are the future of any society, but if the only future for a substantial number of students is in the gangs, and jail, society is in deep doodoo. NB. I repeat that I am referring only to the situation in the country in which I reside. I have no knowledge as to other countries education systems.
  2. I never said that teachers are to blame, as I don't think that is their job. Far as I'm concerned teachers should teach maths, biology etc and specialists should be involved with kids that have been failed by their parents. No point making it a subject for all kids as many have parents that do care about them. The obvious place for such remedial education is schools, but the cops have to be involved in truancy, as it's pointless have such programs if the kids that need it are playing hooky. BTW, I am pleased to hear some teachers actually care, as the ones I had failed to educate, failed to produce well rounded students, some were incompetent, some were unkind, and some were overly fond of corporal punishment. In all my schooldays I only remember one teacher with fondness. Many I despise now for what they were, but back then I thought such was "normal". Any education I had, I obtained after I left school.
  3. When parents are obese they are probably not going to be feeding the kids a healthy diet, and when parents don't care about their kids doing sports etc, the kids ain't going to be getting much exercise, so other than schools, who is going to teach children about a healthy life style? I blame the parents, but they were probably brought up badly themselves, so short of taking children off parents and putting them in institutions, what is the answer? Up to me, it'd be so expensive to have children that the rotten adults wouldn't have any, but can't see that ever happening in a western country.
  4. Perhaps so in your country, but plenty of fat kids around here. Also we have a truancy problem so some never get much education anyway.
  5. That would be good too. I can imagine it now- the committee members getting exercised and Trump taking the fifth on everything. However, short of confessing to an actual crime, I doubt there is anything he could say that would make him worse off than he already is.
  6. I think it takes years to get a full m'bike in the UK and will he get insurance on a provisional one? Are you saying an International Driving Licence covers m'bike even without a full licence from home country?
  7. If not a skilled m'bike rider, think carefully about riding in LOS, which is extremely dangerous for m'bike riders. Loads of traps for the unwary are all about. I believe m'bike riders account for most of the death toll on Thai roads. Also, it's too hot to wear protective gear, so I never did, but I always wore a helmet, which saved my life when someone drove into me while I was almost stationary. The helmet was smashed, not my skull.
  8. If don't have a proper m'bike licence I doubt will get cover on any UK insurance, and anyone rides in LOS without insurance is barking. NB has to be specific insurance for m'bikes. Even if have International licence would still have to take Thai test to get Thai m'bike licence. I got mine based on UK m'bike licence, but still had to take test.
  9. I only worked for the NHS for 10 years so the super from them isn't large at all, and my main pension ( NOT a nurses pension ) is from NZ and stops if I leave NZ. No way I could live in LOS on the NHS super alone.
  10. "Falsely" is in the eye of the beholder, and starting WW3 is a very, very bad idea. IMO WW3 is a very real possibility at the moment, so well worth getting exercised about.
  11. Better totty in Bkk, but also too expensive which is why Buakhao ( and Pattaya ) is popular.
  12. That new station is massive. Does anyone know why Hua Hin deserves such a large station, and why is an elevated railway only going to Hua Hin. Surely it's too close to Bkk to deserve a high speed passenger only track? Normally, there has to be a cost benefit to construct such a massively expensive project, but knowing Hua Hin I fail to see what it may be. Perhaps Hua Hin is to be a dormitory suburb of Bkk?
  13. While the Buddha himself would disagree, IMO the Thais certainly believe it's a religion, but I understand they adapted many aspects of Hinduism into the way they practice their version of Buddhism.
  14. I have been an active participant on the Do you believe in God thread since the start of it. If I can't understand much of the discussion when it gets into ancient texts, there is little point in me investigating such as you provide, but thank you for the information. Others may be interested. While I do believe in God, far as I'm concerned Nirvana has to wait till I cross the great divide and embark on my last great adventure as a human.
  15. I certainly want him to appear. I suspect though, that the committee may regret it if he does.
  16. IMO these days it would be hard to find a politician motivated by morality or principles above staying in the big chair. I want Boris for the entertainment factor, as I don't think any politician is capable of "fixing" Britain any more, so IMO it doesn't really matter who is in Number 10. If that makes me "barely sentient" no problem for me.
  17. I miss nothing, but I choose not to get exercised by something that may not happen.
  18. a/ Will the world be safer if Russia is not in the UN? b/ A strike by any country on Iran will be regarded as a declaration of war c/ Do you assume they haven't thought about an attack on the production site and have not taken steps to protect it or moved it underground?
  19. Agree 100%, but I had the extra benefit of there being no tv in my childhood. Instead we did family activities- board games etc, and listened to radio shows as a family. If I were to attempt to define the beginning of the end for western society, it would be when tv became the norm in households.
  20. As an ex student I can say categorically it is. I was taught nothing about actually living a life, though I did learn Latin, Shakespeare and the kings of England. Forward to today, if healthy living is taught, it's obviously not taught well enough ( I refer only to schools in the country in which I reside ).
  21. I hope he does. That'll shut up the stirrers. If he does, hopefully he won't make the same mistakes.
  22. Victory against the perpetually offended. However, he probably had to pay large to lawyers to win. IMO they are the only winners in the so called "justice system". Will he now sue the other party for lying?
