Not quite true. My Aussie account was hacked a few years back. I was using a public, internet cafe in Pattaya at the time. Hacker drained my VISA credit card of the maximum. I wasn't aware till I returned  to Oz. Bank advised me of the issue & refunded the full amount, plus 3 months interest free transactions on said card.

    Just saying.

For goodness sake stop being so bloody holly your not a grammar expert, I could not give a monkeys arse if there are to many plastic bags in the world when children are dying every day of starvation, or from other easily curable diseases but no plastic bloody bags are far more important to you aren't they, so get off your lilly white charger and try and do some real good for a change

    My dear Deep.

    1. I have no intention of starting a petition. I simply posted the reply from 7-11.

    2. I saw 2 issues in the original post. Plastic bags & no reply to e-mails in Thailand. I always get a reply to all my Thai e-mails, so I thought I'd see if 7-11 would reply, they did.

    3. I'm certainly no tree hugger. I do accept plastic bags if the occasion warrants.

    4. I use said plastic bags for bin liners.

    5. I doubt if you have a monkey's arse to give ? Don't offer what you don't have.

    6. Yes, millions are dying of starvation & disease. Maybe it's mother natures way of trying to slow the over population of the planet, who knows ?

    7. If I were to campaign on any issue here in LOS, plastic bags would be way down on the list. Yes, there are far more important issues.

    8. Sorry, I no longer have my Charger, & it wasn't white. A yellow mustard colour actually. But that was back in the 70's. V8, 4 on the floor, great car in it's time.

    9. Lastly, with all the likes & positive comments, do you feel  you just might be odd man out ?

    Cheers.....     Mal.

Now you all tell me what do you all do when you come out of a 7/11 store with 8/10 items including 3 bottles of water and try and ride your Honda 125 motor bike 1 or 2 KMs home without a plastic bag over the hook and the tiny section under the seat full...go on you people tell me ...answer =you ride home with one hand on the handle bars, 2 of the bottles stuffed down your shirt (if you have one on) tomato sauce bottle hanging out of your mouth and an occy strap holding all the other items purchase strapped to the back of the bike ...so there, we don't need plastic bags?   SSS  Some times somethings fall off and then where do you put the wife?

David, mate... you ever hear about something called a backpack ? They come in various shapes & sizes. Even you could work out how to fit your 8/10 items in said bag. It just might take you a bit longer than most, but I'm sure you'd get there after a few tries. Next big revelation for you, try keeping said backpack under your bike seat.

" Now you all tell me what do you all do"  Well, that's what I all do !

7 Yes great I'm under whelmed I know you could start a petition to stop swimming in the sea as it upsets the wild fish.

I might start one to stop farangs from starting petitions in a country they have no vote in. How utterly boring.

" I might start one to stop farangs from starting petitions in a country they have no vote in. "

The interesting thing is that the petition was suggested by a Thai, not me. Said Thai appears to be well educated & has a better understanding of English grammar than you.

  5. The 7-11 reply........

    Dear Sir/Madame,

Thank you kindly for your suggestions.

We share your concerns that plastic bags are harmful to the environment and would like to reduce them also.  7 Eleven stores have introduced a number of  measures over the years to persuade both store staff and customers not to give / receive plastic bags for small items purchase.

Of course, there are still rooms to improve because some folks are different from others when it comes to environmental awareness vs. needs for something to hold many items, or fresh food / drinks.  Over the years, the government and retailers have put in efforts to promote cloth bags.  But check it out yourself, how many Thais carry them when shopping, not to mention how many they left at home !

In many countries, stop using, or charging a small fee for, plastic bags are possible by Law.  It is law enforcement that curbs demands for plastic bag consumption. A case in point: you simply could not ask customers to stop smoking inside a restaurant, or an airplane. You have to make it a law.

To make it happen, we encourage you to send a petition to related authorities, e.g., Office of the Prime Minister (www.1111.go.th), The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (www.mnre.go.th), parliament members Facebook, or even your own embassy.

Once again thank you for your letter.  Let me assure you that 7 Eleven stores have measures to educate customers and staff on plastic bags reduction vs environment. We will try harder on this. Last not least, you can help make it a law by writing to the above channels.

    Best regards,
    Customer Contact Center

  6. After reading & replying to the original post, 7-11 don't reply to e-mails, I took up the challenge. Sent 7-11 BKK, a "diplomatically" worded e-mail concerning the supply, use of plastic bags at their stores. Today I have received a positive reply.

I'm happy to post their reply, I trust a Mod will advise if this is ok ???

They suggest I start a petition & send to nominated government departments. They have provided addresses to send said petition.

So, Mods, members, is anyone interested ? Is it ok to post 7-11's reply to my query ?

    Thanks all.

  7. Have you tried Tops bakery ? Here in Sakon Nakhon they usually have burger rolls, not so with the hot dog rolls though. Well, not exactly a burger roll as most of us know, but a bread roll that does the trick for me.

Have you found a local burger you like ? ask where they get their buns.

    Just a thought.

  8. This may not work for you, but it did for us. Went to local PEA office, we are in the sticks. Asked if they had an electrician that did "after hours work", yep, sure did. He was working in their planning dept, not on the tools anymore. But, very qualified & his work is as good as I've seen anywhere. Naturally he only works after hours, so emergency call out jobs, he's not the guy. But for rewiring & book ahead work, he's the best.

    Hope this helps.

For me, I don't really give a (*^% about the environment so the plastic bag issue is really of zero importance.

The only issue I have is when I buy something and they don't give me a plastic bag.

Ever thought of putting your head in a plastic bag ?

Or is your comment a poor form of sarcasm ?

I used to work in Saudi and Kuwait in the desert areas.  There were often dust or sand storms, and even when not the airs static charge was high.    I used to drive around the sites and constantly get out of the car, if I touched the metal door to close it in a few stops I would run down the battery.   The alternative was to wear gloves or close the door by pushing on the window.     Fortunately on many sites the buildings were of aluminium so not a problem.    I have seen sparks fly between my hand and my daughters before when standing on a nylon carpet.     One advantage, in my work, is that you can tell when a storm is coming from the electric tingling to the body.

Oh, it also helps with divining / dowsing, I use copper rods for this.

I'm sure your story will be most beneficial to the OP re cleaning his pillows.

  11. As above, adaptor will lower voltage to suit your application.

This might be of some interest. Oz no longer 240v.

In 2000, Australia converted to 230 V as the nominal standard with a tolerance of +10%/−6%., this superseding the old 240 V standard, AS2926-1987.

Sorry, but I think maybe imagining it.

    1.
    2. Mains power is sometimes spoken of as 110 V; however, 120 V is the nominal voltage. In 2000, Australia converted to 230 V as the nominal standard with a tolerance of +10%/−6%., this superseding the old 240 V standard, AS2926-1987.

" Plastic bags are only a minor issue so don't sweat the small stuff. "

Surely you jest. If by some remote miracle, all plastic bags suddenly disappeared in Thailand, the entire country would come to a complete stop. I agree there are much larger issues that should be addressed, but overuse of plastic bags would be a good start.

If I went into a 7-11 & asked if I could have a plastic bag, they'd put said bag in another plastic bag.

I recently purchased a small Kit-Kat chocolate in a 7-11 & the cashier was about to put it in a plastic bag. The damn thing was no bigger than my index finger.

    Just sayin.

  13. Hi Bob.

I'm also in SN, but unfortunately don't know of any travel agents. Why not purchase online ? All my international trips over the past several years, tickets have been bought online. Never a problem.

Or, try phoning the Bangkok office of an airline that flies to where you wish to go. Several international airlines have offices in Bangkok. Try,  https://www.skyscanner.net/flights-to/bkkt/airlines-that-fly-to-bangkok.html   you'll find here a list of all international airlines flying in / out of BKK. I'm sure most will have an office in BKK.

    Hope this helps.

  14. Try Google, several restaurants listed.

If not sure I'd probably stock up on goodies at the market & have my lunch at home. Maybe some smoked salmon, crisp white wine, maybe some imported Aussie beef on the BBQ & a nice smooth red to wash it down. The possibilities are endless.

    But, just my idea.

  15. Depends where you come from. If you come from North America or Northern Europe, Isaan winter will feel like summer. If, on the other hand, you hail from a tropical location, Isaan winter will be somewhat cool.

I'm an Aussie from Queensland. Don't own long pants or long sleeve shirts. Don't possess a jumper or jacket. To me, Isaan winter is pleasantly cool. I'm still using air conditioner, late afternoon & evening.

    Hopes this helps.
