  1. Interesting. My UK bank tasked HSBC in October to transfer some money to my Thai bank account. Over two weeks on, the money has yet to arrive, while HSBC has failed to respond to a series of SWIFT messages from my bank. Search now in progress for a UK-based human being at HSBC capable of resolving the problem. Q: Were you able to locate a telephone number that led to direct contact with someone in HSBC's UK offices? (The "HSBC Switchboard" number 0207-991-8888 leads to the Indian call centre, which was unable to help). Thanks from a fellow sufferer!
  2. "may be allowed to reopen from January 16th, on the condition that they meet the required criteria and pass assessments by relevant authorities" ????
  3. For reasons not worth going into here, my Missus and I both received Sinopharm jabs earlier this year. As others have indicated above, Sinopharm is not recognised by the UK authorities. **Pre 11 October that would have meant having to serve 10 days in hotel quarantine when we visit the UK (trip planned for Q2 or 3, 2022). **Post-11 October, it recenbtly announced rules suggest that we should have to quarantine at home/wherever we're staying in the UK for 10 days. The second option is non-do-able for us: we no longer have a home in the UK and (costs aside) can't afford the time to be cooped up for 10 days in a single place. So... is there another option, i.e. after the Sinopharm has sunk in, report for jabs of Moderna, Pfizer or Astra Zeneca (2 jabs each of whichever is available), and obtain vaccine certificates to that effect. Then obtain Passenger Locator Form 48 hours before arrival in England and take Covid test before the end of day 2 in England. The procedural side of things seems straightforward, but I wonder about the medical aspects? Any views? Thanks in advance
  4. From Bangkok Hospital web-site: Questions: Can Moderna COVID-19 vaccine be used as a booster dose after 2 doses of Sinovac or Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine were fully given? Answer: In case that 2 doses of Sinovac or Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine were given: Moderna COVID-19 vaccine should be administered 3 months apart from the second dose of Sinovac or Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine. Only one dose of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine is required after completing two doses of Sinovac or Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine. Questions: Can Moderna COVID-19 vaccine be used as a booster dose after 2 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine were fully given? Answer: Moderna COVID-19 can be administered as a booster (third) dose 6 months after the second dose of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine was given. However, only one dose of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine is required after completing two doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
  5. Twice in 17 years' residence: a) School-age kid tried to lift my wallet on Sukhumvit main drag. Around 8.00pm, many pedestrians about. Not an accomplished "lifter" - I felt and grabbed his hand as it went into my pocket. Bit of a hubbub after I released him - the stall holders grabbed him and began yelling at him. No sight of his "minder". b) Also in Bangkok, walking home to my condo down a side soi off Ploenchit. About 11.00pm. The pavement (sidewalk for US readers) is built around some big trees with religious regalia wrappings. Man appeared from behind a tree with a metal bar raised in his hand. Old military training kicked in and I decked him. Ran home and called a local cop I knew well. Quick turnout, but the perp had disappeared. Likely suspect arrested for a similar offence a short time later: yaba head who had robbed/tried to rob a few folks near foreign-heavy condos. Edit: No trouble at all since moving up-country 14 years ago.
  6. Bangkok Hospital web-site indicates that patients who have had 2 x Sinopharm jabs only require one Moderna booster: https://www.bangkokhospital.com/en/content/questions-about-moderna-covid-19-vaccine (towards the bottom of the page). That booster to be given three months after completion of the Sinopharm shots. Which raises a poser: current UK regulations do not recognise Sinopharm; will that also apply to Sinopharm x 2 + Moderna booster x 1? That might suggests that expats should have 2 x Moderna shots on top of 2 x Sinopharm (appropriately spaced) to have any chance of hassle/quarantine-free entry into the UK. What's the medical view on that - is there a doctor in the house?
  7. Brenda Holloway, a much neglected Tamla Motown act in the 1960s. As shown in the second video, still working in the 21st century.
  8. Is it still the case that anyone planning to fly between Bangkok and Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani or Lampang must "download and register the tracking application and must present the full vaccination certificate [pre. 2 jabs completed] and the negative results of the Covid-19 RT-PCRT test". Quotation is from Pattaya News 29 August, - citing CAAT & CCSA deliberations. I can't find links to their official statements/the tracking application - very grateful for help in locating them. Thanks in advance.

  10. After a decade of valiant service, my lap-top died recently. No problem finding a replacement, but like 99% of lap-tops on today's market, it lacks an on-board optical drive for reading/writing to CD/DVDs. Not a big deal: the solution is to buy an external plug-in optical drive. Lazada has a fair range, none of them particularly expensive, but I'd be grateful for any specific recommendations/warnings by BMs who've tried them. https://www.lazada.co.th/tag/optical-drive/ Thanks.
