Bangkok transport’s long and bumpy journey to a common ticket system
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
I'll set up a committee to decide if you are qualified to be on a committee. Get back to you in, oh, 20 years from now? -
Bangkok transport’s long and bumpy journey to a common ticket system
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Here's a suggestion: Ask cities who DO have an integrated system, and have had for many years, how they got it to work. And how they avoided 20 years of fruitless discussions, studies and committees reporting to other committees. -
Truck Driver Faces Charges in Fatal Collision
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Central Thailand News
Because people dying on the roads is a common and daily occurrence in Thailand, and the victims, it seems, were poor immigrant workers so no-one cares. If something like that happened in my native UK then it would be a lead story for days. -
Bangkok roads to be avoided from 4pm to 7pm on Friday
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
They've done it before and I can't see them not doing it again. More so now, as I'd guess that many more young people would join in. -
It is a common feature of Thai reporting that they include all kinds of completely irrelevant information, usually when there is an accident and we are given a description of what they were wearing or the registration number of the car(s) involved - yesterday, farcically even giving the number after blurring it out in the photo as they aren't very smart. Also, it is important to Thais to highlight a foreigner behaving badly, given half a chance.

Thai business leaders express concern over political instability
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
you're mistaken or uninformed. Almost 10 years of military rule has ruined what was a buoyant economy...............you think that has nothing to do with OI that was previously earmarked for here going elsewhere? Or the former PM not being a politician and used to giving orders not making compromises? Or the former PM going back on his word to other countries so often nobdy wants to do business with Thailand any more? The Army needs to step aside and the Senate must be shown sense. What has your post got to do with mine? If you, as you state as fact, often nobody wants to do business with Thailand in the years since the latest coup, then please back up what you say with figures. Otherwise, it is simply your opinion. -
Corruption in every possible aspect of Thai life, even a lowly car park attendant. Just part of the Thai culture they are so proud of. Once a year our area has a fair, and crawling out from the sewers come 'helpful' self-appointed parking attendants who find you a place to park. If you fail to tip them then expect to find your car damaged when you return.

So the blocking of roads has begun. And, as before, the police will stand by and do nothing to stop their erection. Fortunately. My brother-in-law is a policeman and he was called to Bangkok from Issan in 2010 to control the protesters. When he went off duty he put on his red shirt and joined them. We might see the same thing happen in the weeks ahead.

wrong. when it is this blatant and obvious to stand by idle is just as bad. I've been a journalist for over 40 years and what Jingthing writes is correct. There are news reporters and there are opinion and analysis articles written by top writers. That is becoming blurred now with everyone having an opinion and reporting their opinion as news. It is not.

Thai wife being bullied by family
Bangkok Barry replied to thefarangteacher's topic in Marriage and Divorce
They are jealous of her, simple as that. Make your wife understand that, and tell her to ignore their comments. Tell her she has won and they've lost! -
Thai business leaders express concern over political instability
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
And Sky News is running a series on what is happening there, from on the ground. But there, many thousands are being killed by the army over resistance. Thailand is extremely unlikely to get to that extreme. As for US action, what you suggest might happen never does. Rarely if ever read of rogue leaders being taken out, anywhere. Unfortunately. Only OBL over 9-11, but that directly affected America. -
Fake Thai police duo murder ice vendor in daylight attack

How do they know the 'police' were fakes? -

The rest of the world doesn't give a moment's thought about a SE Asian backwater country, that has no influence in any way or on anyone outside of its borders. -
