Michael Cohen Takes Center Stage in Trump's Hush Money Trial
Bangkok Barry replied to Social Media's topic in World News
You do know that the courts are not a voice piece for the Democrats, don't you, but about punishing liars and lawbreakers. Obviously you are confused and can't separate politics and a court of law. Like so many of Trump's ignorant supporters. I suppose that's the only alternative to not being able to accept the truth.- 609 replies

The main thing that social media has done is expose how many idiots and low-life's there are among us. Before, they were largely hidden, but now we know we are surrounded by them. Also by many who offer insults and even death threats to total strangers. I'm nor sure, in answer to the OP's question, whether that has made the world a better or worse place. I'd edge towards better as we are more aware of the dangers of mixing with strangers, or it could be argued worse as it has provided a platform for the worst of humanity.

In the recent past, when we were able to read the profile of the Thaiger 'journalists', not one of them had formal training as such. Which is probably why they have to get AI to write the reports for them. And so we get garbage like this. What I struggle to understand is how and why a news organisation thinks this is okay. They very clearly have no professional standards. All they produce is an exercise in pointless and irritating flamboyance which detracts rather than enhances the report. Tip to Thaiger - read a proper newspaper sometime to see how it's done.

Premiership football and euros 2024 what channels please
Bangkok Barry replied to jwest10's topic in General Topics
I, and many others here, subscribe to an IPTV service. I don't know if they offer a month trial, but that might be an option for you. Then if you like it, and you will, you can continue with it. It isn't that expensive. As for the after midnight kickoffs, catchup is usually available for 2-3 days. Or there are a number of websites where recordings of matches can be seen by us the next morning (I'm about to watch Villa/Liverpool). I usually download onto my PC and transfer to a usb to watch on tv (downloading directly to a usb is slower in my experience), although if you have a fast enough wifi you can just 'cast' it to the tv. -
What would you do with that scam?
Bangkok Barry replied to Confuscious's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I get the sms in question now and then and delete it. End of. I also receive cold calls now and then, but my phone shows me the region it's coming from, several areas in the Bangkok region, and I know from that what it is and don't answer it. Yesterday, my wife got our first call from someone wanting to deliver a package we hadn't ordered, yet another scam. She asked who it was addressed to, it wasn't us and she told them so. All you need is a bit of common sense. -
Thailand probes wealthy foreigners for money laundering scheme
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Why? I don't think many that want to open bank accounts do so to launder money. I used to travel a lot as a journalist and be paid in different countries, and it was useful to have an account in New York and another in Melbourne as well as my native UK, in order that I could be paid into those accounts and draw on them when in that country. Not everyone is a money launderer. What should be dealt with is people handling millions, or in this case billions of baht. Which, it seems, they are doing as this case demonstrates. -
Perhaps you didn't read to the end of the article. There is no plan yet in place to operate as you say. Initially, the Customs Department will be responsible for collecting the 7% VAT and passing it on to the Revenue Department. Future discussions will explore the possibility of involving online platform operators in the collection process.

Kiwi held in Pattaya for overstaying visa by six years
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I agree 100%. John Lennon had it right when he sang 'Imagine there's no countries, no religion too'. But border rules are there these days to try and prevent the poor overwhelming more affluent countries. The US and Mexico, the UK and mainland Europe receiving 'economic refugees' from Africa. Thailand, being the self-appointed greatest country on Earth, believes that everyone wants to flock to their third world paradise, and so also rounds up those who don't play by the rules. -
Kiwi held in Pattaya for overstaying visa by six years
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
No it won't. There will be no follow-up, no further mention of him at all. There never is, unless he's Swiss and kicks someone - and even that has gone quiet. Same as the NZ motorcycle brothers who attacked a cop. News has an instant expiry date most of the time. -
Kiwi held in Pattaya for overstaying visa by six years
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
It might be the farang equivalent of the Thai women we read about on this site who leave their rented accommodation literally full of trash. They simply can't cope with the escalating situation they find themselves in and then pretty much give up trying. -
Renewing UK Passport, Proof of Address
Bangkok Barry replied to pjbkk's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
I can't believe that you post on here that you pay about 3x more than everyone else who has said on this thread they do, and then state you are happy to do so. -
Renewing UK Passport, Proof of Address
Bangkok Barry replied to pjbkk's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
We have to provide proof of address, which they then refuse to EMS the new passport to. Bizarre. There are things in this world Thailand we are not meant to understand. -

Yep! Groundhog Day all over again. Seen this headline many times before, same as campaigns against taxi drivers not using the meter, riding motorcycles on the pavement/sidewalk, cracking down on influential figures (again today), ending corruption, etc etc etc etc etc. Still, as I've written several times before, Anutin is just today's mouthpiece who has done his job the Thai way. He has spoken, made his recommendations, and his job is done. Anything that happens later is not his responsibility. You, I, he and everyone else knows that what is said will be ignored and is unenforceable and will quickly be forgotten, but that is not the point. He has acted, done what he considers to be his job, while actually doing nothing. This happens all the time, at least once a week. Someone makes a declaration and the next day it's ignored and forgotten. But that person has done their job by 'acting'.

Why is the Thai Countryside full of discarded rubbish?
Bangkok Barry replied to stix40's topic in General Topics
Some have mentioned fly-tipping, which is not the same as littering. The former appears to be a far bigger problem in my native UK, from what I've read, but littering there is not. In Thailand, there often appears to be no pride in their surroundings, especially the area around their house. When I moved into the house I have now, I filled two very large sacks with litter from the verge outside. Every week when the rubbish is put out for collection, I always need to add a few latest pieces. Why are they like this? Because, like little children, they need to be told how to behave, and no-one does it. -
