White House warns Ukraine aid is running out
sirineou replied to CharlieH's topic in The War in Ukraine
There is a reason why we don't hear much about Ukraine in the news anymore. Don't be surprised if Zelensky is out in the next few months . The war can be best described as a stalemate. Ukraine cant win a war of attrition with Russia , and the US after having led them into this will hang them out to dry. -
Health Ministry campaigns to encourage Thai couples to have children
sirineou replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
The reasons people are not having more children are structural, so unless Minister Cholnan Srikaew is planking to restructure the economy and culture of Thailand , he will fail just like every other leader in every other country has failed. . You want people to have more children? Make it economically, and socially viable. In order that people have More children, they need to be able to afford it, and have the time for it. -
Trump, allies fire back at media warnings of second-term dictatorship
sirineou replied to CharlieH's topic in World News
You gotta be Joking! You do know who this thread is about? The upues are in the title and Article. This is the post you were responding to when you made the statement I responded to. "“All of these articles calling Trump a dictator are about one thing: legitimizing illegal and violent conduct as we get closer to the election,” " and you said : "…by the left. Dictator by what definition? Just because a group states a descriptive doesn’t make it true. Though such descriptives are a reflection of those who hurled them." to which I posted a link to an article where trump's defence is that he never took an oath to defend the constitution. So that should answer your question od "By what definition" By the definition of a leader who claims that he does not have to act constitutionally,. -
I am very disappointed in you! No I did not! You asked why I made a statement, I succinctly explained why, also I posted a headline and a link to e reputable source, to indicate that I was not the only one that thought so. My explanation stand with or without the article If you disagree with my explanation, please feel free to say why.

No my answer was not "could be" I respectfully ask that you go back and read it again.

Regrades. Does my post answers your question m which if I remember correctly was " Exactly how?"

For many years there have been unsuccessful attempts towards the de-dollarization of world trade The freezing of Russian assets by the Americans , and the fear by others that the same could happen to them if they did not play ball with the US , provided the catalyst for the creation BRICS. American warship, multiple commercial vessels come under attack in Red Sea
sirineou replied to CharlieH's topic in World News
That does not sound right to me. Ignore those that disagree with you at your own peril . Have you ever been wrong? If the answer is yes , then why cant you be wrong now? If the answer is No, then you are in more trouble than if you ignored everyone who disagrees with you. But I know you don't really believe your above statement for a fact, because I have seen you not ignore those who disagree with you in this forum . I think that like many of us you wish you could ignore them. Quote from Against The Wind (Bob Seger) "Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then " So what can you do? you can fact check yourself. -

American warship, multiple commercial vessels come under attack in Red Sea

The problem is that many of us (and I have also been guilty of it in the past) don't view others as people motivated by the same dynamics as we are, but as props in their word. -
Electricity and fuel prices are expected to increase next year
sirineou replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Not sure why I am even bothering to write this reply, You did not understand any of the previous ones, so way would you understand this one? Why, a 400bht monthly electric bill? wouldn't a 200 bht electric bill make a better example of your ridiculous statement? You make a number of false presuppositions and you run with them. First, not all have a 400 bht electric bill . the average electric bill in thailand is 743 Thai baht. https://www.statista.com/statistics/1051505/thailand-average-monthly-electricity-consumption-per-household/#:~:text=Average monthly electricity consumption value per household Thailand 2012-2021&text=In 2021%2C the value of,around 2.23 thousand Thai baht. That is the average!! many have a bill a lot higher. Run a poll on this forum and you will see that most expats pay over 2,000 bht per month. ( "My November electric bill was 2700 Baht, " ) Second, no where did I say that anyone will "Rush" out to buy an EV . I said "more desirable " Third. no where did I say that any increase in electric will induce people to buy an EV . I said " increase in energy" such increase includes all forms in energy , which is why I mentioned the discrepancy if gas prices between Thailand and European countries. An Increase if fuel prices would make EVs more desirable. An Increase of the cost of charging them would make them more undesirable .An Increase in the electric bill would make Solar cell more desirable since the break even time period will decrease. -
Electricity and fuel prices are expected to increase next year
sirineou replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Of course you are right about that, but you don't think the increases will stop at that 16%? We just came back a few months ago having spend the Summer in Greece, everyone there was complaining about the high cost of electricity, and fuel was more than double from here. Much of the same was true in most European countries. Me and the wife were talking about that, and she asked" Why was electric, a gas so expansive in Greece? don't they get gas from the same place we get it?" My answer was that they do get gas from the same place, but gas was subsidised in Thailand. Same thing is true of electric IMO Energy is a big components of the means of production. and it reflects itself in everything we buy. I read someplace that Thailand was experiencing a shortfall in their annual budget which was the main reason why they proposed to tax income from abroad. ( budget deficit of 693 billion baht,) How much do you want to bet that that such deficits will affect electric and fuel subsidies? IMO this 16% increase in electric, is not an isolated incident and will continue , unless Thailand resolves, it's deficit somewhere else. It's been a while , but if I remember my math right at 16% per year a bill will double in about 5 years! Do you think such scenario would make Solar cell and EVs more desirable? , -
No more Non O Spouse multiple entry?
sirineou replied to RotBenz8888's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
That is not true. (at least in our area) On Marriage extension, I had a single re-entry to my extension this year that I used this summer, now I am going to the US for Christmas, and when I went to get another single re-entry, the officer asked my why I had not gotten a multiple re-entry to begin with. -
Electricity and fuel prices are expected to increase next year
sirineou replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The fuel , and as a consequence electricity prices have been kept artificially low in Thailand as anyone who has traveled abroad will attest, I had the pleasure to spend both in the US, Thailand and Greece, and Thailand has by far, the lowest energy prices . As Thailand is beginning to experience budget shortfalls. It will have no choice than to limit or eliminate fuel subsidies. It is reasonable and inevitable. If there is a positive from it , it would be that it would make solar and EVs more cost effective. -
Over 37,000 informal debtors register for help in just 2 days
sirineou replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"in informal debt with 19,061 creditors " the operative word being "Informal" Debt to banks is formal The way I understand it. There is no promise to help pay of the debt, only to act a mediator between the borrower and the lender and reduce the interest rate to at least, at or below the legal interest rate limit of 20%
