  1. PS: You said.............
what i rule out by logic and applying some simple maths that precious metals can be used as a monetary replacement serving a population of (soon) 7 billion people.

That is not to say you couldn't have a paper system that was just backed once again by metals.

your idea is good Flying but we are running in circles and getting nowhere. there are not enough precious metals physically in existence to back all the paper and book currency which is globally essential. there is also another problem. presently more book money is traded than is in existence and the same goes for any commodity be it crude, grains, pork bellies, orange juice or timber. by decree book money could be outlawed but how can the value of these commodities be backed if not by fictitious fiat money?

surely this is the whole point, backing the money in circulation by gold would mean less "thin air" money around, and we could go back to more sustainable living, what do we need to sustain a good life but some shelter i.e. a home, good health,a job to provide food and some comforts.

  2. Its always been my experience, that the guys with the most conspiracy theories, have the least money in the bank. :D

I may be wrong in this case, but this has been my experience, many, many times in the past.

line spacing just a coincidence :D

why do i have that strange feeling that you are dàmn right? :o

maybe its because the people with the least money in the bank have least to lose.

  3. If Samui and KP both banned plastic bottles, we'd have a better enveirment and not have the trashy look on beaches as we have today. And kids can go collect the glass kind for the deposits. Anyone? :o

platic bottles, bags, all sorts of packaging produced by the petro -chemical industry, alias the oil cartels.just like all the cement roads here on samui, bribes and more bribes, politicians need to stand up to this corruption(they would need 24 hour body guards to stay alive)but it can be done.ban all plastic bottles and plastic bags.use recycled brown paper bags and string/hemp bags.you would still have problems from glass bottles because they are often used as a weapon, maybe there's away to inmesh some form of wire into glass bottles so they could n't splinter.how about what to do about glass in entertainment areas(often used as weapons in a fight?)heavy duty cardboard cups perhaps no bear in bottles(only draught beer allowed.i know all very extreme measures.anyone out there with the guts to start doing what is right............i doubt it.

  4. Yes concrete is cheap but is a heavy pollutant, and yes its the only way thais no how how to build nice modern houses so you are probably stuck with it.

double cavity brick is best for temperature control for summer heat and winter cold.

but the very best i think but most expensive is western cedar timber, but you would n't have the skilled workers here in thialand to build a house this way.

  5. although am not a stoke supporter i always love watching them play and how they stick it to the big guys.man. city have a team on paper(like spurs) that should see them in the top 8.but it just shows you buying players for the sake of buying them does not make a team.robinho is some lazy dude, and in my opinion one of city's best players(sturridge)never gets a game.time to get another manager who can put together a cohesive team, rather than just spend money for money's sake.a BIG CLUB OR A CLUB PRETENDING TO BE BIG NEEDS A BIG NAME MANAGER.

  6. removed for rude & insensitive comments.

What a completely uncalled for, tactless and tacky comment to make. You know nothing about this man's life and yet make comments like this. I feel very sorry for any family members that may come across this post in their search to find out what has happened to their loved one.

    Ladyheather,

I'm trying to see which part of SBC's comment was so offensive. He just states that he feels sorry for the guy, doing this & he wonders why so many people involved in farang/thai relationships seem to do this type of thing. As for the last bit, I must admit I've seen alot friends dancing when their partner/wife has left. He even throws in a RIP. :o

Perhaps SBC doesnt actually realise how common suicide is, in all parts of the world. It is very sad that after 70 something years of living, he takes this course of action.

Hope he does RIP & also thoughts with his family.

I apologies to "lady heather" i think for the second time that i have hurt her feelings.

  7. simply put "what goes round comes round" in this life.if you do good things, the good things you do will come back to you.if you do bad things but repent(in my beliefs)and not do the bad things again you will be forgiven(in other words your sins of the past will be wiped away.

  8. neil young...................just the best and still going strong.what i really like about him is his voice and the lyrics he chooses for his songs.whether its the heavy stuff with crazy horse or sweet melodies on acoustic they're all great.remember the tribute to jonny rotten of the sex pistols.am playing some now, down by the river, cowgirl in the sand, ohio, helpless, the needle and the damage done, living in the free world(electric and acoustic),old man, southern man, like a hurricane.thank you neil young for so many great songs and some beautiful memories.

  9. Looks like unrest speading

Iceland Greece France Uk America?????? Nothing!

The difference might just be attributable to the problems existing beforehand in these countries. Greece and its level of corruption make Thailand look angelic. If it wasn't for the benefits of the EU, Greeks would still be plying the streets in donkey carts. Anything that jiggles the house of cards is going to cause a problem. France's public workers have cushy jobs, high pay for limited hours and overly generous benefits. The protests in France are a reaction to the government saying how about you folks get treated like non public sector workers, you know the people that are paying the bloated salaries? The typical Frenchman isn't protesting, it's the same gang of spoilt layabouts that think they know what's best for the people that have to pay for everything. Iceland? Well, it's a rinky dink country that wanted social utopia and came up with rogue capitalist tricks to pay for it. Party's over and they can't spend money they don't have anymore. It's like the child that was getting a hefty allowance when Daddy says, sorry Thor, I can't swindle people in the UK with my bank schemes, so no more allowance. As for the UK, the people protesting are the same people that will turn out for any rally where they can vandalize, and run amok.

The USA has its protests, but the difference is that folks know they are in a jam and that there is a concerted effort to respond. The presence of leadership at the top, even if imperfect goes along way in giving people hope. President Obama is making all the right noises to buy some time. One gets the impression that the Americans have gone back to the FDR approach of trying to help people. Mr. Brown, needs to take a lesson and show some pluck and the old English characteristic of a stiff upper lip, duty etc. England's been through far worse and having a vapourhead at the top sighing isn't helping. I have a lot more faith in the English than some of the English people of TV do. I remain convinced that if it gets worse, the little genetic code for resolve in the English will click on.

I like your sentiment re the english fighting spirit but i fear its long dead and gone.the britain today does not resemble the britain of 50 years ago.during this time the population has been softened up with welfare handouts, excessive immigration that has but destroyed that comunity spirit you speak of.the fatted calf has arrived in the form bought votes from a top heavy public sevice with job security and bloated pensions.the family unit has been destroyed with easy divorce laws, where loyalties once the domain of the family unit are now given to the gang culture.the english language is almost unrecognisable in the young of today with sms speak, the continual use of foul language now considered the norm.and lastly the seemingly right of everone to slag off at anyone they choose.anyone with a brain and the means to do so have already fled the country.all that remains are those without the means to do so,and those that are still able to suck from the pigs trough. Its my opinion that the politicians days are numbered, the civil servants may strike too when they realise they too will lose jobs and will lose their pie in the sky pensions. racial tensions(easily flamed and blamed by economic hardships)to could escalate.in other words i think it is all too late.the people have no one to look up to(in the second WW they had a royalty that shared their pain)look at the royalty today who could anyone name just one royal person that they can respect(rampant divorce)that still has a voice for truth and respect.

  10. promising and delivering are two different things, will believe it when i see it.On Samui we are talking about a corrupt administation with an island mentality(like we are far away and cannot be touched)Like was said before, phuket and krabi put samui to shame, and if i was a tourist i would not want to return to samui, when i can go to phuket or krabi. But the locals that appear to run Samui dont care, and why would they with the concrete scam they make so much money from.(my claims are unsubstantiated)but would seem evident by the state of the roads, compared to krabi and phuket.

  11. I'm absolutely gutted about this. A great player who goes out and scores three goals in twogames, then sees himself warming the bench for El Gordo Benitez.

Sooner or later Benitez will fall from grace and the scousers will then be free to find a settled side that will challenge for the league. Until then, the Spaniard will keep up his policy of substituting great match winning players with twenty minutes of the game to play.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o

i too have been saying this in many posts in this thread only to be howled down,so iam posting again to agree with you.

  12. adding 20 years of quality life would be worth 500 baht a day for enough people to make it a viable vitamin supplement.

Yes it is health related so does not have to be thailand related to be in the health section.

well i could find 500 baht a day for another 20 years, but i know it would be a waste of money cos the pill would end up synthestised and lose its original value.

  13. it is the oldest trick in the book - a magic pill that gives immortality, backed by scientific sounding claims.

i suppose some people will be suckered into such a purchase. just going on what was written in the OP it certainly sounds like a con job. unfortunatly there is no link to the so called 'research'.

nevertheless, placebos can give results, but exploiting peoples gullibility doesn't justify it IMO.

The pill doesn't exist yet. The research is on mice and convincing for mice. This pill is definitely coming within a few years I think. They will not be able to prove the 20 years claim until there is a major study over many decades. For many of us, that will be too late. The hypothetical question I suppose is more that if you were convinced that the pill worked, what would it be worth to you? However, we won't really know whether it works or not for decades from now. Many of will be dead by then. So this is one of those "fierce urgency of now" situations.

BTW, if the pill actually did make you live 20 years longer the PLACEBO effect would have nothing to do with it! You don't live 20 years you wouldn't normally have lived with a placebo. You are confused about the limitations of placebos.

instead of living an extra 20 years, many would die broke before that..............more fun to drink the wine!

  14. LOL just admit it is not Thailand related instead of making some nonsense justification.

Check the topic titles in this section, Mr. Pesky and tell me if you don't see other topics that are just about health in general. They are clearly allowable in the health section. Unless you are mod, this is none of your business.

'george is just being pedantic" tell him to take a hike!

  15. keane isn't in the squad to face chelsea.

Well then he's going to have a problem proving himself if Rafa doesn't give him a chance...

he's gone. if not now then in the summer. back to spurs for about 15m. i don't think rafa ever really wanted him and it really is one of the strangest transfers i can remember.

what you say is true, just saw report on espn.

  16. I think you can see a trend...............one towards one world govt.i now hear angela merkel talking about a united nations world body to oversee the global economy.gordon brown said yesterday at davos that it was imperitive to keep pumping money into the global financial and economic system so that globalisation did not fail, that globalisation had bought great wealth and prosperity to millions world wide(he forgot to mention"at the expense of millions of others).

I forget who,but someone posted copies of a bill passed in the US senate with regard to the building of camps attached to USA army/airforce bases, for the protection of citizens in the event of natural disasters.

events are moving very fast, masses of job losses world wide will cause massive protests and serious social unrest,so perhaps we know what the new camps will be for.i for one think its a given that we will see the eroding of savings and investments and that there is really nothing the individual can do to stop any of this, but like AL i do like discussing these things on this forum.

I would really like to know who is controlling these events(the fed.reserve aka the big banks, the war machine aka the pentagon, armaments industry.remember iraq, just an excuse to make some money for a few at the expense of hundreds of thousands of lives. The islamic world often quotes uncle sam as the greater satan, are they close to the truth?a wolf in sheeps clothing.

  17. as i understand it from this thread,if you left australia prior to being at the pensionable age of 65 to live in thailand you do not automatically become elligible for the state pension. To receive or qualify for the pension you would be required to return to australia 2 years before age 65 and take up permanent residence again.then at age 65 apply at local centre link office.

After that i think you just let centrelink know you will be going overseas to live in thailand and they will continue to pay into your aussie account.there will be strings attached to you still receiving the pension but i think it can be done.if you look back to the early postings in this thread,an aussie guy posted that he was receving his pension while living in thailand and on eof the criteria was that he keep in touch with centrelink as to his whereabouts.

It isnt a case of keeping in touch with C/L , the requirement is that you must notify C/L of any change in your adress within 14 days, because if they try to communicate with you and fail to get a reply within the 14 days your pension will cease until you make contact with them.

This has happened to me several times owing to non arrival (thanks to the inefficient and light-fingered postal workers) of correspondence , and the only way you will know something is amiss is when you check your banking records and find your pension is unpaid , but thanks to the great staff at C/L International ,it only takes a phone call to rectify the situation..

I will state that any Australian Citizen who is entitled to the OAP and meets the criteria will receive the pension, the residential criteria has been well explained in this thread and it is up to you to meet said criteria, no good bitching that you cant milk the system .

bit harsh ozzydom,no one is after milking the system, just being able to get some support after all the years of paying taxes, after all the system is saving with retirees being overseas........no health card,no medicare,no train/bus discounts..............a good deal for thegovt.

  18. but liverpool are doing(at present)exactly what they did last year, that is not scoring enough goals, and letting in late equalisers.so i am asking you what would you do to correct this before its too late?

My answer is get another striker to go upfront with torres, still play gerrard behind them(that was a good move by rafa).liverpool do have a good mid field, but they need some good players to play wide.sell keane cos it is n't working out.

what we're doing this year which we were not doing last year is being up at the top of the table at the start of february. this time last season we were well out of it.

don't agree about a partner for torres, it's been shown that it just doesn't work, whether it's crouch, voronin or keane. only kuyt has looked at all like an effective foil for nando. gerrard in behind him is his best partner.

we lack massively out wide, primarily in terms of pace and ball-carrying. if we're going to finish teams off or break them down when they're defending in numbers, we need more of a ball-carrying threat, which we just don't have. trouble is there are so, so few of them around.

my honest view is that rafa is too conservative to win the league in england without united and chelsea really fuc_king up. he won't really go at teams, won't let the players off the leash enough to beat teams and kill them off the way that united have done for years. which is why he's more successful in the tighter games of the european cup than he is in the league and why he was able to win the league in spain twice.

ok yes good point.why do you like just having torres up front?from what ive seen if you only have one up front goals are harder to come by,better in my opinion to have two strikers.play a 4-4-2 system.i think you only play one up front if you are afraid of losing rather than going out to win.but as you say rafa maybe too cautious.agree his tactics have been brilliant in europe, and europe's not the EPL.but he's not doing liverpool any favours at the moment.good luck anyway.

  19. think this goes on all the time, they see something else they like but put a deposit down anyway to hold it.very annoying for you though.and yes depositors from the UK are going through daily changes and bad news re their jobs, that maybe the reason.losing a job.

however keeping all these deposits are money for jam if you are not desperate for a tenant.good luck.

  20. ok so you tell me whats going wrong at liverpool,if its not rafa, ownership problems, contract problems, alex ferguson must be having a good laugh right now.

as someone that obviously has no idea what he's talking about, you tell me why he appears to bring on and take off players at the wrong time, and perhaps you can tell me why liverpool cannot score goals at present and why they draw so many times if they have such a good team.

i never said i had a silver bullet, but nor do i think it is as bad as many liverpool fans are making out. we're not out of it, we're going through a rut where we can't kill games off, but we've still only lost one league game all season.

and i pointed out that you were calling evra, cole, bosingwa etc wingbacks, which you are wrong about. didn't say anything about 'no idea what he's talking about' in general.

but liverpool are doing(at present)exactly what they did last year, that is not scoring enough goals, and letting in late equalisers.so i am asking you what would you do to correct this before its too late?

My answer is get another striker to go upfront with torres, still play gerrard behind them(that was a good move by rafa).liverpool do have a good mid field, but they need some good players to play wide.sell keane cos it is n't working out.
