  1. Looks like "sandwash" between the tiles. AFAIK - It's a mixture of mortar and small pebbles which is finished with acid etching to expose the pebble surface. Very common here. https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=sandwash Future issue could be with matching repairs, as the colour of the mortar and pebbles are almost impossible to reproduce.
  2. The Great Escape - "Papers please".
  3. It's incredibly sad to hear these regular stories of youngsters drowning here - sometimes multiple deaths when they try to help their mates. When I visit my wife's village I see a lot of fish ponds with very steep muddy banks. I imagine it would be difficult for a child to climb out. Growing up in the UK we spent a lot of summers playing in canals, rivers, and reservoirs unsupervised, but I can't recall any drownings (although I do recall a few drownings of kids caught in tide currents at the beach, even with their parents nearby). I guess the difference is that most of us could swim. Is there such a thing as public baths here?
  4. Life of Brian - 1) What have the Romans ever done for us and 2) Biggus Dickus
  5. I had to google three-peggers. If anyone else needs a clue ...
  6. All the other traffic is halted for at least 1km ahead and behind his motorcade, and the traffic lights are all turned to green for him. He's probably puzzled how so many people manage to kill themselves on Thai roads when driving is so stress-free here.
  7. Dear ThaiBev and Boonrawd, please brew some decent beers at reasonable prices then you won't need to worry about small brewers and home brewers taking away your business. With all your experience and resources you could probably compete on quality and price rather than using unfair laws to maintain your market share.
  8. In recent times Thailand is not even a sanctuary for refugees and asylum seekers who are at risk from political persecution, or even death. It seems unlikely that the Kingdom will provide refuge for foreign gay couples who are trying to escape from persecution in their neighbouring states. In 2015, the government deported at least 109 Uyghurs to China. In November 2021, Thai authorities deported four Cambodian dissidents, Mich Heang, Lahn Thavry, Veourn Veasna, and Voeung Samnang, who were registered refugees living in the country under the protection of the UNHCR. All four were immediately arrested upon being returned to Cambodia. Multiple practitioners of Falun Gong have been detained by the Thai government, including Chiang Yung-Shin, a Taiwanese man who helped to send uncensored radio broadcasts to China. As the recent case of the Cambodian dissidents demonstrates, it is not unusual for individuals under officially recognized international protection to be expelled from the country at the request of a foreign government. https://freedomhouse.org/report/transnational-repression/thailand
  9. I had a similar problem and eventually realised that my browser was blocking pop-ups on the site. As soon as I clicked on "allow pop-ups" I was able to proceed to the next page.
