If you are attending the funeral prior to the final day expect lots of photographs to be taken - almost as many are taken as at a wedding these days
What threw me the first time was having our photos taken in front of the coffin - also the relaxed nature of the first few days of the funeral, lots of talking and eating
The final day at the crematorium is the most serious of the days and typically when you'll see emotions running at their highest

A late update - thanks for all the help - a new hdmi cable resolved the issue - I seem to go through them at an alarming rate over here
-
Thanks for all the useful links - looks like things are generally ok up here but I wish they'd do some planning based on the rains being late / poor this year

Dry season means DRY. A lot of dirt blowing around.
This is how a Thai friend describes dry season.
Hanging your clean clothes outside to get them dirty.
Rainy season will be here soon.
Then people will complain about the rain.
This is not Europe, The USA, Africa, South America, or Northern Asia.
This is the beautiful tropics. This is beautiful Southeast Asia. This is beautiful Thailand.
This is fruit and beautiful flowers everywhere.
If you don't like it here, go some place else.
Quit your bitching and complaining.
Live with the weather, like the Thais do.
I am well aware it is the dry season thank you, and if you actually read my post then you will see there is no complaint in there - I am only asking if anyone knows what the status of Chiang Mai's dams is as in other areas of the country the dams are at very low levels
-
I've seen reports in the paper that shall not be named that the 4 big dams on the Chao Phraya are at low water levels
I've also seen report in the Chiang Mai news sections that the drought is causing the forests in the north to spontaneously combust (hmmm)
How are the dams are Chiang Mai doing these days?

Since you are able to carry out a detailed deciphering of such a cryptic message (as above) would you be willing to do the same for all Leo’s (or is that ‘Chang’s) as printed in the latest horoscope in my local newspaper?
It would save me a fortune in ‘fortune-tellers’!
Sure thing - take all your money, fly to Vegas, put it all on black at the first casino you come across

bit of a worry bods running round in bars/clubs/restaurants/ toilets with cameras filming blah blah blah--but no shot of author. It aint gonna stop please please explain it makes no sense whatsoever. Can anybody decipher this message
It can be deciphered I think
i believe the the person who posted it is concerned by being filmed by someone they don't know whilst being in a bar or club (maybe whilst being with someone they shouldn't be )
also so they were annoyed by the fact that the person narrating the video didn't appear in the video themselves

Hi,
I am experiencing weird video and audio drop outs to my speaker and tv 4 or 5 times a day
Its a simple set-up - Apple TV > hdmi > sound bar > hdmi > tv
If I'm playing music from the Apple TV to the sound bar and the tv is off the music will stop for 1 second and then continue
If I'm playing a video from the Apple TV to the tv via the sound bar then the audio stops and the tv screen goes black for a second and occasionally when the tv comes back it displays static even though the sound bar resumes playing the audio - switching the tv on and off fixes the problem
One thing I have noticed is that neither the tv nor the sound bar are switched off when this happens - the power led remains on for both devices
the other thing I have noticed is that the fridge / freezer motor kicks in in the kitchen at the same time I get the drop outs
is it possible that the fridge / freezer motor is the culprit and somehow causing interference when it kicks in?
thanks in advance

But does she deliver?
Yes she does - I missed out that crucial detail :)

My wife is a florist and will be able to knock up a nice bouquet for you depending on your budget
I know when she has to buy roses from the market the price at least doubles this time of year

Another great example of Thai "Jai Yen Yen"

Hmm - I believe there is some bad blood between them and the Over-The-Hills Angels

I predict you'll be losing some money shortly

I believe the British Consulate in Chiang Mai is now closed - even if it is still open it does not do passport renewals - they have to be done at the embassy in Bangkok (or the firm they outsourced everything to!)
ubonjoe beat me to it

"The Africans taking over my grandparents neighborhood in Miami comes to mind, but that actually took five years+ "
Are you sure that KKK stands for Khon Kaen Kowboy and not Ku Klux Klan. Pathetic racist post.
Sadly he seems to be a racist, misogynistic, skin flint

Only in the rain

To the OP I would say if Chiang Mai isn't giving you what you want and you have no ties here then stop moaning on this forum and simply move to somewhere that will make you happy - life is too short

Thanks for the updates folks

I think it was originally slated to take 2 years but I can't remember when they started - feels like forever ago

Salad Terrace is good, so is Salad Concept on Nimman and the original OhKaJup (haven't been to the one near airport plaza but I'm sure that one is good too)

This year, for obvious reasons, I would recommend a nice bed, a hot woman and a very cold bottle of champers.
With my luck it'll be hot champers and a cold woman
Thai word for head gasket?
in Thailand Motor Discussion
Posted
I'm trying to explain to the mechanic (via my wife) that I think there may be an issue with the head gasket on her car
Unfortunately I'm not in the same location as the car otherwise I'd be able to show him and I'm sure he'd understand (well I hope he would anyway ;))
So in the meantime does anyone know the Thai translation for head gasket?
cheers
