Second Booster - Thoughts on whether it is advisable or not?
lujanit replied to Longwood50's topic in COVID-19 Coronavirus
My woman was part of a Siriraj trial in which she had her blood sampled each month after the jab (she got three jabs). The test was to measure the covid anti-bodies in her blood. I was amazed at how quickly the anti-body count reduced month on month so that by the time her next shot was due her count was barely above baseline. She is 65. I am aware the response in different people will be different. It convinced me to get each jab (booster) the minute it became due. I'll continue to get them as long as they are available. I'm 69 and in reasonable health, not overweight or a smoker. Yet I'm scared of contracting covid as for all the stories going around that the latest version is mild there are plenty of stories out there that contracting covid is bad, even deadly especially in older people. No, I don't live my life under a rock. Just go about my normal day to day business taking normal precautions. -

Thousands face jail in Thailand for repeat DUI offences
lujanit replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"for sure" in this context is a definite maybe. Depends on how big your bank balance is and who you know. So carry on as if nothing has changed. -
Where are all the trillionaire Indians and Arabs who were going to save the tourist industry? Oh more hot air out of TAT. Inviting Russians here on charter flights is as low as TAT can go. They have no human compassion. Maybe the Thai government should send support to the Ukraine instead of supporting that ratbag dictator Putin. Of course the 3Ps wouldn't want to upset Xi.

Thailand’s teachers accumulate combined debts of ฿1.4 trillion
lujanit replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
If the 1.4 trillion debt is correct and the actual pay teachers receive each month is averaged out at 9k and the house and car and probably household electronic appliances (phones, TV) need to be paid there would be very much left to buy food, pay the power, water and gas bills etc. This is why loan sharks and gambling are so prevalent in Thailand. If a figure could be put on that I think the 1.4 trillion baht figure would seem to be pittance. -
AusPost will only accept 20kg parcels so you will have to break them into two boxes. Seven Seas may be an option although they take about three months as they transport only via sea.

Yesterday at high tide. About a metre below the pathway. This is the highest I've seen it this year. Yesterdays low tide was more than a metre below the level in the pic. Location. This klong feeds into Klong Mahasawat which divides BKK and Nonthaburi.

Six years of elephant attacks in Thailand kill 135 and injure 116

If humans keep encroaching on the elephants natural habitat things are going to get ugly. The elephants are only protecting what is theirs. -
I read. The upshot seems to be that the science is conflicting regarding brain damage in adolescents. From the article: https://nida.nih.gov/publications/research-reports/marijuana/what-are-marijuanas-long-term-effects-brain Imaging studies of marijuana’s impact on brain structure in humans have shown conflicting results. Some studies suggest regular marijuana use in adolescence is associated with altered connectivity and reduced volume of specific brain regions involved in a broad range of executive functions such as memory, learning, and impulse control compared to people who do not use.38,39 Other studies have not found significant structural differences between the brains of people who do and do not use the drug.40 There seems to be an emphasis on the developing brain in adolescents not adults.

I'll have a go at answering this question. The Degrees and Graduate Diplomas programs I describe hereunder are not 'worthless'. Mostly they are applied science disciplines. As for art I have a high regard for the serious study of the history of art. In fact I have many books on the history of art and artists. I highly recommend the BBC series Perspective with Waldermar Januszczak on Youtube. Waldermar is an outstanding knowledgeable presenter. You only have to read the comments to see I'm not the only one who believes this. As a university lecturer who sat on examination committee meetings (these meetings were to review exam results. Part of the process was who was given a outright fail and which students were to be given a supplementary exam). I can say that overseas full paying students were treated far differently to local students. Foreign students were passed even though they had failing grades. At one meeting two of us (chemistry lecturers) objected to an Indonesian student (Degree contender, three year program) being awarded his degree even though his exam results were abysmal. He couldn't even read and speak English properly. This was identified early on as well as his poor understanding of prerequisites, one of which basic high school chemistry. He was given supplementary English lessons by an other. I was given the task of tutoring him on basic chemistry and it became obvious early on he didn't even understand the difference between a proton, neutron and an electron. At exam time it was necessary for him to be allocated a 'reader' who read out to him the questions. The 'reader' could not provide any guidance, yet this was not enforced. The reason was to get the candidate over the line at all costs. This was done in a separate room, only the two of them with no supervision. One committee member said if we failed him 25% of the foreign budget would vanish. It was all about the money. I'll say this again and again. In the end he was issued his degree. It was endorsed with "only valid in Indonesia". Another Thai student who went to London for a MBA was doing so abysmally the only way he got through was to send his assignments to his mother and she would write them for him. His mother is an excellent fluent English speaker, reader and writer. This is evident by reading her efforts. The lecturers were well aware of someone else writing the assignments, how could they not be? He was awarded his MBA all because he was a foreign full paying student. All over the world full fee paying students are being granted/ awarded degrees by universities just because they are full fee paying students. They don't deserve them. How does he use his MBA? He set up an Lazada store which sold illegal items. The BIB have been to see him numerous times and taken away the illegal items. In the end last I heard the cops wanted 100k baht to make the problem go away. I personally know of many other cases, particularly Pacific Islanders who were 'granted' worthless Graduate Diplomas. They simply didn't deserve them. The irony of this was that the fees were paid by Australian taxpayers through AusAid (government charity). AusAid (short form for The Australian Agency for International Development within The Department of Foreign Affairs) has a particular budget for enhancing educational stands in nearby countries and if they didn't spend it in any given year the budget there was the threat the budget would be probably decreased the following year. So students were selected not on the prospect that would pass but the fact a budget had to be spent. Also our Indonesian friend described above won his place paid by AusAid. If he had been given a English language test before being granted the scholarship he probably never have been granted the scholarship. Then again there was a budget to be spent. His scholarship not only included tuition fees but also full board (room and food) and airfare costs. Just listen to the outcry from Universities not only in Australia at the height the the covid lock down. Foreign full paying students could not travel and this was hitting the bottom line. You see it is all about the money. Word soon gets around which universities are an easy target and they flock to them. Chinese students in particular are wary of returning to Australia regardless of the incentives provided by the government (https://www.studyinternational.com/news/international-students-from-china-oz/). All the above are not false facts or he said she said. I personally witnessed everything I have described. So degrees are being issued by universities just because the candidates are foreign full fee paying. They simply don't deserve them. I'll say it again. It's all about the money. The words degree mills or diploma mills actually issue worthless degrees or diplomas (a US list is here https://www.geteducated.com/diploma-mill-police/degree-mills-list/). An example quoted from the aforementioned list "If it sounds too good to be true – it is! Western Valley (Central University in NY) offers life experience degrees in 15 days at all degree levels!?" A full list of degree mills provided by Wikipedia can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_unaccredited_institutions_of_higher_education. I hope I have answered your concerns adequately, it is from personal experience. The degrees and graduate diplomas programs may not be worthless yet some of students awarded them are not deserving.

Today there is this piece of worrying news. I noticed that the klong beside the house was unusually high, possibly due to high tide. Will try to take some photos today.

No it was 500 baht and a huge hassle as you had to pay it at the airport. I don't know why they just don't make the departure tax 800 baht and just forget about his nonsense of charging 300 baht incoming fee. To all of you who think that the 300 baht will go to paying hospital fees of tourists I suggest you do some digging as to the proposed breakdown of the 300 baht. The vast majority is allocated to improving tourist attractions, in other words going into the pockets of political pigs and government plebs. A mere several baht is allocated towards a fund to pay for medical fees which will no doubt be stolen by the aforementioned creeps.

After the deluge last night here (Taling Chan) the storm water drains could not handle it. There was water all over the road, the gateway to the village was flooded. Crossy is not that far from us so no doubt he was affected too.
