    Covid boosters MIA

Removed more misinformation. One of the posters above made a very good point. The topic is asking for advice on where to obtain a booster shot, not anyone's opinion on the validity of the science behind them, or the ethics of those involved. Please keep to the original poster's questions and leave more existential arguments for another place.

Moderation is not up for public discussion. We occasionally try to advise on what is acceptable and what isn't. This is not an invitation to debate. Posting in such a manner as to alter the context of source material is frowned upon. If we see it, we will act upon it.

When citing a researcher's work you should make sure to look for later work that clarifies their position as they continue their research. For example The same researcher you quoted had this to say in a LA Times Op-Ed the following year: This is only the end of the beginning for COVID-19. Harnessing the full repertoire of the body’s capacity to remember viral invaders through a vaccine that is long-lasting and effective against inevitable new variants is our best hope to defeat this disease. This has to be the goal of the next phase of vaccine development. Marc Hellerstein is a professor in the Department of Nutritional Sciences and Toxicology at UC Berkeley and in the Department of Medicine at UC San Francisco. This is just a single example, and is not meant as the latest word on Dr. Hellerstein's research, but it shows why selective quotes don't always tell the full story.

    Covid boosters MIA

Removed some medical misinformation and conspiracy nonsense. If it persists we'll have to take action against those posting it.
  9. Some disturbing images removed. Please don't post graphic content. It's a difficult topic to discuss but everyone's being more or less reasonable. Thank you.
  10. Removed link and non-English characters in topic title.
  11. Posts violating community standards were removed.
  12. Posting conspiracies and other unsubstantiated rumours can threaten your posting abilities. Several more have been removed. This topic understandably can be rather emotional for many, but we're asking you nicely to constrain yourselves. Nobody's likely to change anyone's mind, and nothing said here is going to matter in the end, so just calm yourselves and have a reasonable discussion.
  13. Cleaned up some personal attacks, unattributed media, and misinformation. A reminder: The report system is for reporting serious breaches of community standards, not for registering disagreement with someone. Moderators aren't here to fight your battles, we're here to maintain a quality environment for our readers. If you see something you disagree with, counter it with your own respectful argument or let it go. Leave reporting for serious issues.
  14. I've cleaned up the personal attacks, and a lot of misinformation. Many posts didn't have to be deleted but were anyway because the poster for whatever reason felt the need to quote the misinformation. We don't have time to edit individual posts. If you quote a post that breaks the rules, yours goes in the trash with it.
  15. This conversation has devolved into people on all sides trading insults and not providing our readers with anything but the same insults going in circles. I'm personally getting tired of having to clean it up so let's just put it to rest.
  16. Cross post removed.
  17. It would be appreciated if you could disagree without insulting each other.
  18. Nobody should be citing politicians as sources of medical information. As well, it's not relevant today what some politician said or did years ago regarding Covid. They aren't experts, they're mouthpieces. If you want to talk real science and medicine, this is the place. If you want to discuss politicians, please do it elsewhere. That goes for all involved in this discussion. Further political talk, and medical misinformation will be deleted without comment.
  19. More posts violating our community standards removed and account action taken on some. As I stated before, misinformation won't be tolerated in this forum. Claims here require a higher standard of proof than other areas of the forum as they can affect the health and safety of our readers. If you are making a claim, provide authoritative sources or it will likely be removed.
  20. Rational discussion of course is allowed, but don't spread unsubstantiated medical hysteria. We don't care what side of a debate you are on, but if you want to make claims of a medical nature back it up with *reliable* sources (Not politicians, bloggers, or news pundits). Removed one such post as it violates our community standards.
  21. Some posts violating community standards were removed. Nobody is forcing you to read any topic. In fact, your replies make it more popular both here, and with Google.
  22. Just to clear up a misconception: Vaccines create antibodies to fight infections inside your body. This is how every single vaccine, MRNA or otherwise, works. They are not a shield that prevents the pathogen from entering your body. That is physically impossible. The greater amount of antibodies present when the pathogen enters the body, the quicker they are able to destroy the pathogen. This leads to a less severe infection, and faster recovery. It's simple mathematics. Antibodies kill infections. The fewer there are, the longer it takes the body to produce enough to clear the infection. The vaccine cannot prevent you from getting the virus, it only kills it faster. Now, we've had about enough with the misinformation and dubious sources around here. If you want to talk bad science and long debunked conspiracies you'll find an endless amount of places to do so, but this won't be one of them. If you insist on spreading it here you will face account action. Enough is enough.
  23. Posts containing misinformation contrary to our community standards have been removed. Some have remained where the reply to them has served to correct common misconceptions.
  24. Some posts violating our code of conduct and those quoting them were removed.
  25. A post in poor taste and those quoting it were removed.
