  1. Right, I got to a page called "manage wireless networks"

It told me that my computer was set to automatically connect to my neighbors wifi with my wifi as second preference.

I took my neighbors wifi off the page.

Then I went to "change adapter settings" and it told me that I was connected to my wireless network even though my cable was plugged in.

    I plugged out the cable.

I will have to use my computer for a few hours tomorrow to see if these were the only problems

    that were affecting my connection.

    Thanks for the help guys.

  2. I had ruled out the physical damage since it has been working perfect for a few weeks.

There was a flashing notice about about a conflict from the taskbar.

So I will go ahead with what Thai20144 recomended in his first post.

I will let you know how I get on.

  3. Hi,

I had a post about this a few weeks ago.My laptop keeps either gets an X in the place where it shows connection to the net in the task bar or it starts to turn the pages really slowly.

On the last post I was advised to update my drivers and I got slimdrivers and the problem went away until a few days ago.

I've checked slimdrivers again and it says that I'm up to date.

Some of the recommendations from the last post were......disable the power management...........turn the router off for a minute ........change the channel setting on the router........turn off automatic updates...............

If anybody could tell me which of these I should check first and how to do it I would be very grateful.

  4. Yes RihCor it's when the file is an image that I have problems.

I right click and download with my downloader and the file is .jpg.

But ABEYY will convert these files and I have a two office type programs

    to choose from.

    That was good help,fast.

  5. Hi,

    Here's the thing.

My wife and I teach English and neither of us are good with computers.

I have started getting our worksheets(documents) from off the net and

putting them on a memory stick.

She then puts the memory stick onto her laptop, edits them with Windows Words

    and prints them out.

So far so good, but when ever I get a file that Windows Word won't open she can't edit it before printing.

I have FreeFileViewer for opening it but that won't edit it.

As far as I can see it there's two way's round this,

1- change the filles to windows words format before I give it to her.

    If that's possible or............

2-Get an office type program that would open those files.

The second solution would be less easy as I would have to learn how to use it and then

teach her how to do it in Thai.

So recommendations please for a program that converts all documents into windows words format............

Or the simplest office words type of program for editing documents.............

Or another possibly more obvious solution if there is one..........

    Thanks

  6. I have a Thai bank account and I transfer my money over here

    with internet banking.

My point is if I take some of that money and buy something online

in Euros or Dollars I've changed the money twice.

Maybe going from Euros to Baht and back to Euros again.

I get away with my Thai address on my Irish PayPal account for a while

and then PayPal says no,it's not allowed.

Maybe if I put the account in credit before I made the purchase

    they might be O.K.

Anyway the bank said that they would ring me the next time

so that won't be half as bad.

Anyone else have experience of using a Thai address on a european

    bank account.

  7. I was just onto the bank, finally they sorted out why they weren't ringing me

    before they blocked the card.

I gave an 084 number and they thought it was Irish and got no answer.

They said that if they had that code they would have rung me first.

I told them that it was a Thai number but they never asked for a code.

What's the bloody country code for Thailand

And again what's the best way to put money into my Thai PayPal account without chainging it into Baht first.

Thanks for the input so far.

  8. I can't transfer money from my Irish bank to my Thai PayPal account and I can't have a Thai delivery address on my Irish PayPal account.

If I put Thai baht into my Thai PayPal account I loose twice on exchange rates.

Unless there's some way to transfer Euros into my Thai PayPal account.

And would I loose that much if I put Thai Baht into my Thai PayPal account

I can't work that one out.It mightn't be much more expensive than the phone call.

  9. Hi,

My Irish bank keeps cancelling my debit card every time I but a few things online.

None of these things are expensive and this is the fourth time it's happened this year.

Each time I had to ring them and get it reactivated.I've told them I live in Thailand,I've told them I spend small money regularly online and that I don't want it cancelled but they keep doing it.

Is this something I just have to put up with and resign myself to ringing them every six weeks or can I do something about it.

The last guy's words were "I can't guarantee that it doesn't happen again"

Do I just have to accept this or should I ask to speak to his supervisor or get an email of somebody who deals with this.

The other option is to do my online banking with a Thai bank but that way I have to change currency twice and other unforeseen problems.

  10. A simple question,

Is there a way to find out which version of windows I'm using and also when websites ask you how many "bits" your version is which do I choose.

I bought windows7,the original copy but the one reduced to 1700bht for sale in Asia only.Does that 7 change when I allow updates or will

my version be windows for ever and is it important to know how many bits you have when downloading programs.

  11. Yes,

The drill bit drills the pilot hole.

The first countersink blade drills the countersink space for the screw.

I get that much and it's all I need to know for what I'm doing.

But what is the second blade that drills a larger hole for,and the third blade which drills an even larger hole.........what's that for.

Something to do with plugs and dowels,I suppose.

  12. O.k,I see.

I'm only sinking the screws so as to be flush with the wood.

But if I was sinking them further I would cut out the barrel shaped

hole so I could add filler later,is that about the jist of it.

Anyway the most important question is answered, just barely make an indentation

with the first blade if I'm only countersinking to be flush with the wood.

  13. Yes,but what is the barrel shaped hole that it cuts out

before you get to the larger countersink blade.

I've never seen anything like it before and it was the only countersink

    bit in homepro.

I can use it o.k but I would love to know what it's for.

  14. Hi,16510-Hex-Shank-Screw-Pilots.jpg

I just got these drill bits from Home-Pro.Vermont American.

They are excellent quality but I'm a little confused about how to use them.

There are 2 cutters at the top,I don't know what the first one is for.

I use non tapered screws, the bronze coloured ones for power drivers.

Can any any one tell me if I should go as far as the first or second countersink blade.

  15. Hi,

I've got some old books from audible and I want to convert

them to MP3 or something similar.

I have found drmconverter buy Aimersoft but it's not free.

Before I buy it can anyone recommend a free program that will do

    the job.

  16. Thanks MJCM........as I said I would never have done it on my own.

I have learned a lot from this forum.I also have CCleaner and Revo Uninstaller to keep my computer running well.I have taken out the divide between my Dick C and Disk D and have de-microsofted my computer in lots of other ways.

You might think that I was computer savvy if you saw my machine but I learned it all here.I got my first laptop 2 years ago and have no one to teach me where I live.

Some of my earliest posts were pitiful when I think of them now.

  17. O.K,

I did the slim drivers 8 updates last night

and left the computer on all night downloading a torrent.

It was still connected when I woke up this morning witch is a miracle considering that yesterday I didn't know that my computer even had a driver.

The one problem I have now, presuming I don't loose connection again,is that at some stage I said yes when I was asked if I wanted to create a restore point or something and now there is much less free space on my disk C.

I appreciate all this help, there is no way that I could have figured this out myself.

  18. O.K,

It's all about finding the gear now.

I can get a 3B pencil in Tesco.

If I had some kind of product name for the lanolin or graphite spray

I could could try to find the lanolin in Thailand and the graphite on eBay.

If it was at home I could just walk into a chemist and ask for something with lanolin in it but here

the chemists don't know what's in their products.

I'll start with my missus's lotions and then try lip salve and stuff.

It's good to solve this problem well seeing as I will be here for a while
