Not sure what you mean about applying to everyone.

If it is the Mor Prom app, I haven't said that. I said it stopped working on my phone. It works perfectly on my wife's phone (iPhone) and my friend's phone (Android)

As for the time between appointments, I know it's only a recommendation, but again the people I mentioned above (and others I know) received new appointments the first time it was changed. The second time it was changed, they received messages that they have to make new appointments. Maybe it's the hospital doing that.

I still cannot check my Mor Prom

Edit: I see now what you mean.

I did say "it seems" . You can see the explanation above

Why do people assume that when they see something it means it applies to everyone.

My appointment was moved from the 27th Sept to 30th August and then to 16th August.

And the app still works on android.

Not sure what you mean about applying to everyone.

how does your specific faculty feel about your leaving.

perhaps they can pay you directly as a faculty employee rather than as a university employee.

I know someone who worked out that deal when they hit the university-based age limit.

He had been there for a long time and was highly valued based on his unique skill combination.

It's impossible to know how they feel. I know many of the Thai teachers seem sad that I am leaving as I have always been a great help to them.

Don't use the app. Go on line direct to the Immigration web site and strictly follow their 90 day option remembering to accept all their conditions at the beginning, making sure the data entered accords with your last approval and using all of their drop down menus. Believe me it does work if you have patience. You will almost instantly be able to print off approval and next 90 day date.

it makes no difference if I use the website or the app. I am met with the "You have an overstay of 254 (or 264 I can't remember) days. Please contact your local immigration". I can't do anything.

Last time I was there I pointed this out to them and the first thing he said was "2000 Baht!". I laughed and produced my last receipt.

I asked when they were going to fix it and he just smiled and said "I don't know"

So, maybe the app and online reporting work for some, but this little problem blocks me from using it. I have a feeling it is to do with my new passport, but the guy didn't see any connection. I guess he is not an IT guy.

    I don't understand.

You say you have received a new contract that starts next month.

Then you say you are on a two year contract and are planning ahead?????

    Correct.

I basically wanted to know if anyone with 100% certainty has received severance pay from a government university. I know 2 or 3 of our teachers have been in the same situation and they were told that "university rules say no severance pay". Another teacher was handed a 10 month payout, but for a different reason. Again he had to threaten with a lawyer before they paid out.

I asked at HR and they confirmed that the university has it's own rules and that I am not entitled to anything.

So, yes I am planning ahead while I have time on my hands. I don't like to wait until the last minute

There may be a conundrum waiting now with waiting more than 60 days in that effective July 16, 90-day reports require online appointments. You might then get an appointment date beyond the date of your current extension.

If Immigration is at fault for not timely returning 90-day receipt with the next 90-day file date, why can't Immigration accept your proof of mail & Immigration receipt during your extension meeting without penalty?

Are you sure that the 90 day report requires online appointments and can't be done by mail?

From what I read and understand is that you can no longer just turn up and do the report. You must make an appointment

You receive Thai Post and EMS deliveries reliably at your address?

Our EMS driver comes by twice a day (Bangkok 10110), best to introduce yourself, IME. Same-same for normal Thai post driver.

I'd give it a full 56/57 days, then consider making an appointment at MTT to sort it out in person? Tne prepare another mail package in ~ 4 weeks. ????

It is not returned to us by EMS, but by normal mail.

Yes, EMS deliveries here are reliable. There is always someone here to accept the post.

And, finally yes, the postmen know me...the farang. I am the one who gets the list of postmen's names for the New Year "tip" haha (The list gets longer each year)

While i’m sure there are others with more experience, i’ve done my 90 day exclusively by post for the past 4 years. never done it online. I have never not received my new form back… sometimes it was fairly quick.. other times slower.. and the most recent (late January 2021) it took nearly 3 weeks past the due date… but again, i got it back.

My guess here - based only on my experience - is that IF they got your  90 day filing, and IF you gave them everything they require, you will get it back… maybe slow, but it will come .

Of course it could be lost in the post.

I know several other letters have been lost.

  9. So, yet another cock up.

All those who were vaccinated and used the Mor Prom app were automatically given a new appointment in 16 weeks time.

When they reduced the time span to 12 weeks the date was also automatically updated.

Now with the latest update to 8 weeks, it seems that the appointments for the 2nd jab have been cancelled and it is up to you to make a new appointment.

My Mor Prom app doesn't work anymore on my Android, so I can't check.

Take you info the the Labour office and state your case. It would be nice if you report back here with your findings. We've had many teachers on TV saying they would go to the labour department - not one ever reported back about what happened.

In a private highschool - I can say that one teacher did get severance, but this was because he was dismissed during his contract without warning letters being issued.

There was always the argument that one could be let go at the end of their one-year contract, then others would argue that it was actually 'permenent employment' and that severance was due.

So you won't know from and positings on TV as each situation is different.

Yes, I have heard of people receiving severance pay from private schools and government schools, but never government universities. They seem to be in a class of their own.

I won't go to the labour office until I am near the end of my contract. As I said they have just agreed to give me a new contract starting next month.

You sent the envelope by EMS to Immigration? Using the proper address? You included a return envelope with your address? And it had a stamp, 10 baht ok, EMS (37 baht better). And you receive mail reliably at your address.

Long threads here point to 6 - 8 weeks for the Next Report Date slip. In my case recently it was 50 days.

    Yes I did all that.

I have checked the EMS and immigration have received the application.

I will be patient and wait.

I'd wait at least 8 weeks as all mail-in reports are taking ages.  If you have the EMS receipt it shouldn't be an issue anyway.

    Ok

    Thanks to all the replies.

I was just a little concerned as usually I get the return notification within 3 weeks. I read on their site that if you have waited more than 4 weeks, then you should contact them.

Actually, I was surprised that they didn't even offer to investigate when I called.

    I'll wait a while.

Probably not. There will be something about how the employee and employer must adhere to the labour laws.

That will include the notice periods that both need to give.

Yes there is a notice period of 3 months although it states that the contract "terminates on completion of employment". Each contact is 1 year.

It also says ' In the case where there is a question arising from the performance under this agreement, the employee agrees to abide by the decision of the Ministry of Finance"

    and most importantly....

"This agreement is subject to Thai laws and dispute arising from this agreement shall be submitted for adjudication at the Civil Court, Bangkok Metropolis"

    Nothing directly about Labour Laws.

Anyway, judging by all the comments here it seems that no one who has worked in a government university has received severance pay. Maybe no one has applied of course.

  14. Actually, I have been doing the 90 day report by mail for a good 10 years or so and never had any problems. A couple of years ago I tried the online registration and that worked fine three or four times.

Then it stopped working and all the problems began. Obviously when I discovered it didn't work I had to go to immigration in Chang Wattana. That's a half day and almost 1000 Baht wasted.

So I decided to go back to mailing the report. That went fine for a few times and then everyone was saying that the app worked well so I tried again. I got a message that I had 264 days overstay, so I had to go to immigration again. Another half day and another 1000 Baht.

Last time I didn't want to go myself because of the Covid situation, so I hired someone to do it for me (1200 baht).

This time I decided to go back to sending my mail. That was 6 weeks ago and I haven't received a new notification, so I just called them only to be told that I need to go there with a copy of the EMS receipt. That's another 1000 baht and half a day wasted. The new appointment is probably in about 2 months.

Next time ---- there is no next time. I will pay the 2000 baht fine when I do my visa extension. I have heard several people say that they do like this.

Can not registering every 90 days lead to any problems?

Incorrect in this case. Foreign teachers are not employed by the government but by the school/university. There is a fundamental difference.

Therefore they would/could be entitled to severance.

Actually the university is now autonomous, but the budget for the foreigners comes from the Ministry of Finance.

    Hello.

Do you mind if I ask you a few questions?

    How old are you?

    What qualifications do you have?

Do you have any kind of pension?  I assume you got nothing but your pay from the university?

    What are your plans now?

How do you feel about all this?  Do you feel like they used you when you were useful to them and now they're tossing you aside?

Were you aware of this when you began your career?  If not, would you have done anything differently if you knew back then?

Sorry if this is too many questions.  Feel free to ignore me.  Or send a DM if you prefer.

I'm curious about careers working in Thailand and if there's any way to actually make it work without being semi-retired or having other revenue streams.  It feels like you could just about scrape by working in education in Thailand, and have a wonderful and fulfilling time at work, but when you reach a certain age, you're finished.

I would really value your insight.

I am 67 years old. Yes, I have a private pension and a little government pension, so it's not really about the money. It is the principle of the matter.

Yes, they have treated some foreigners very badly and a few of the foreigners have contacted lawyers and usually the cases were settled out of court.

The university only pays salary and basically ignores the foreign staff.

I guess I was "tricked" into staying there by the fact that they promised me that the university would be going autonomous and that we would receive a much higher salary. Of course the increase in salary never came and I regret that I didn't move on when I was younger. I think nowadays the younger staff can see the situation and they move on.

I have also been very lucky in the fact that they have kept me for so long and that we have the freedom to do outside work. I have had a couple of well paid part time jobs., but Covid has put a temporary stopper on them. The private university would probably keep me on as a part time teacher (the salary is higher than my full time job), and as I enjoy my work I may just stay with them for a year or two.

I don't think anyone can make a career at a government university. You are a foreigner and are basically outside the system. Thee is no chance of career development or advancement. Obviously this is different in private schools and universities.

My plans are to relax, hopefully travel and enjoy my life.

There have been so many posts about this in the past.

They usually end up as a "Yes, you can" and a "No, you can't" arguement.

In truth, I don't think there is really a definitive answer.

Go to the labour office. Show them as much information as you can about your employment history and see what they say.

Yes, I have seen many posts about this, but as you say I cannot find a definite answer.

I remember on Ajarn.com forum someone saying that he was about to retire from a government university and he would keep us posted, but never saw any more.

It often seems that government universities consider themselves outside the law.

Anyway yes I will follow your advice when the time comes. I just thought it would be easier if we could find just one definite "yes".

  18. I have been working at my university for 23 years now on a rolling 1 year contract and I have been told that this is my last contract due to my age. The university has said that they don't pay severance pay. I know they try to keep expenses for foreign teachers as low as possible by not involving us in many of the seminars and courses etc, and they even tried to cut my social security payment a couple of years ago.

I have read many places about teachers at private schools and government schools receiving severance pay, but I read somewhere (I can't find it now) that teachers at government universities do not receive severance pay. This would seem strange as we are not employed with any of the advantages of government officers and in fact just "basic workers".

Has anyone any knowledge of government university teachers receiving severance pay?

    Well that's two of 78M

I actually think hybrid cars are far superior to straight up electric but this country isn't ready for either.

Actually, I was pointing out the fact that people are not broke.

I see the rich in Bangkok seem to be buying new cars all the time. Just have a look around Sukhumvit and Thong Lor and see how many red plated super cars there are.

I don't know how many are pure electric and how many are hybrid.

You are right about the country not being ready, but do the hiso care? They have a charger in their house and that provides enough power to get them to the clubs and department stores.

    The hub of electric cars.

How stupid. With the natural gas they have why not continue using older, proven, cheaper technology.

Government can't even manage a vaccine program. Now it's going to manage this push??

People are flat broke. Nobody rushing to change vehicles.

Yeah, will go over great in Nakon Nowhere +4

    You are wrong about that.

Yes, most people are broke but the rich ain't broke. Our neighbours have 2 electric cars, both on red plates. Porche Taycan, and a BMW iX. They like expensive toys.
