IMO the issue is at a subconscious level - drivers of vehicles do not beleive they need to stop for lowly pedestrians.... its one of culture and ingrained attitudes.
This is the problem. It's not a case of not seeing or knowing the crossing is there.
I am sure 99% of drivers who drive over red lights, or pedestrian crossing know full well that they are there as they drive in that area daily. They simply have no intention of stopping.

All zebra crossing should be elevated now.. so that drivers have to slow down and to protect the people using the zebra crossing.. It is just absurd that the same incidents keep on happen and nobody cares.. Elevate them is the only solution
I think many young motorcyclists would love that. It would give them a chance to practice their motorcross skills.

All talk and no action.
Several of our neighbours and ourselves have been complainging about a pub next door to us. This is in the middle of a reidential area, but some guy bought about 9 neighbouring houses and turned the area into an entertainment zone. The pubs stay open to 5 or 6 am (that is ok by me) , but their customers hold "parties" outside in the carpark, next to our house, all night long, screaming and shouting, preventing us from getting a good nights sleep. We complained to the owner of the area (there 2 more pubs about to open) and his only remark was "sleep during the day."
We have complained to the police with photographic eveidence, but nothing happens.

This is 100% Fake News disseminated by Big Tobacco! I have vaped all day, everyday for 20 years now and my lungs are fine! I am thankful vaping got me off of those nasty smelling, carcinogenic cigarettes!
Show me one piece of clinical documentation where vapes have damaged lungs! YOU CAN'T!!!
Show me the proof on this actual article! It is 100% fabricated BS!!!
I don't smoke and have nothing against smokers, but a quick Google search gave a list of websites from recognised health institutes debating the dangers of vaping.

You are right about cigarettes being smelly. My close friend gave up smoking (30 or more a day) and started vaping, so now he doesn't stink like he used to. His lungs are badly damaged, but that is through heavy smoking for 40+ years.

Must be a dodgy vape supplier in the area. I haven't heard of this happening globally.
My thoughts too. The report said

Why more in this particular area and not the whole country? I doubt very much if vaping alone is the cause, but I am noit a medical expert.

Sad again, but a 14 year old is not allowed to drive a motorcycle
oh, according the headline, I thought the dog was driving a motorbike and the boy was fleeing. (sorry for my bad taste, but honestly when i glanced at the headline that was my first thought)
yes, it is sad. I have often seen people on bicycles and motorbikes swerve as dogs run towards them. Maybe someone older and more experienced woyuld have stood their ground as I don't think I have ever seen a dog make contact with a motorcyclist.

With respect, not in my opinion. Go for it State Railways of Thailand.
Back in the old days (25 years in my case), there were no budget airlines. It was bus, car or train. I regularly took the train from Lampang or Chiang Mai to Bangkok and it was always a treat to be able to book a seat in the Restaurant Car and enjoy a freshly cooked hot Thai meal, prepared in the Kitchen Car in woks over gas burners. Chilled Beer Chang and Singha Beer were available to wash down your food, whilst enjoying the scenery from the train. Leo Beer was not around back in those days. A great experience.
A beer ban on trains?? Back in 2023 I travelled by train from Don Mueang Airport to Chiang Mai and chilled cans of Beer Chang were readily available from vendors for passengers consumption.
Sorry, maybe I didn't make my point clear. I meant the whole idea of banning beer on trains is absurd. Surely one should be allowed to enjoy a few beers and relax.

The whole idea is absurd. Most tourists travel by air or minivan where they can't drink either.
The ban was enforced because an SRT employee had been drinking and molested a female passenger.
Why not just ban employees from drinking?
Anyway, I couldn't care less as I have never been on a train in Thailand and probably never will.

At least one that I know of, myself.
Add 3 more.
My wife and I both went to the hospital with coughing and breathing difficulties. The doctors blamed it on the pollution and the construction work, next door, with jackhammers pounding away at concrete all day didn't didn't help much either. Our neighbour on the other side was admitted for 2 days.

I am surprised that no one has stated the blindingly obvious, that the last thing the powers-that-be want is a well-educated, English speaking, thinking population. If they had one, they would very quickly cease to be the powers-that be.
The education system is set up exactly as it is wanted to be, and very effective at what it does.
That is exactly what the head of the English department in my university told me 20 years ago.

Most of the Teachers are native English .
Uhm I disagree.
The students at many of the so-called "international schools" are regarded as "paying customers." Students cannot fail and most get "A". It looks good on the school record.
I am tutoring a couple of students from a fairly well known international school. They speak very poor English and know only a few basic words, yet they "write" an 18 page report on a British monarch and a 15 page report on "how to extract your own DNA" and get A's.
How? Copy and paste + chat GPT, grammarly and so on.
Simarlily, I taught graduate students at a university, but was removed by the head of department, after I upset two girls who were plagiarizing. They were "our paying customers."

I agree with H & S. This non alcohol day is observed throughout the country. I've read in other posts about M & P shops selling alcohol. Not so in our village. In fact the village shop is closed completely on this and all religious observance days.
My playbook has always said respect the laws and cultural rules of whichever country one chooses to live in. If you can't do that then you shouldn't be here!
I agree that you should respect the laws and cultures of the country.
I am surprised that the shops that sell alcohol in your village are closed. I am in Bangkok and alcohol has been sold nearly all day near me. Do they care about Budhism ?
Thai people that want alcohol know where to go to get it. It is the tourists that are hit by the ban.

I assume you're referring to budist culture and beliefs; if so where in budist scripture does it mention abstinence from alcohol on 4 or 5 days per year? Also who do you want to repect? The elite 5% who enact these laws but never abide by them or the other 95% who wouldn't know what culture is if it smacked them upside their heads and who believe the law doesn't apply to them, so will drink away merrily. The only people harmed by these stupid laws are tourists and the hospitality industy.
Only too true.
I passed my local Thai pub 6.30 this morning and there were about 10 people sitting outside happily drinking beer as if it was a normal thing to do.
Go to the tourist areas and everything is closed.

BMW Driver Seriously Injured After Crashing into Stationary Lorry at Red Light
in Central Thailand News
Many trucks have no rear lights. I am not saying that is the cause though.
