  1. Biden is definitely getting old and I say that as a Democrat. I really wish that he would have made way for someone younger, more vital, and more clear-headed. Having said that Trump is not much of an alternative. I think I would take a semi senile man who is likely a decent person, over a very angry huckster who's committed in an entire life full of crime. Unfortunately these are two very poor choices.
  2. The only thing that would change for me would be that I would have to go back to telling people that I'm Canadian, from Saskatchewan. Because engaging people while Trump is president who consistently ask why we voted in an absolute moron, is tiresome and it's better to just deflect by saying I'm Canadian.
  3. Though it is certainly a step in the right direction and it's worthy work, but I still think that the answer is in major culling programs. There are just way too many soi dogs out there, there are a lot of confused people that think there's some sort of buddhaistic merit involved in feeding them, and the reality is the most of them are living rather desperate lives. The compassionate thing to do is to put those guys down.
  4. I totally agree with most of what you said. I've been spending a lot of time in California over the past 30 years, and everybody that I know that can afford to leave has left, with the exception of a couple of guys who are making so much money they can't afford to leave. LOL.
  5. Interestingly enough, I've never had a suitcase stolen from a room anywhere in the world, and I've had significant amounts of money and valuables locked in them on countless occasions, during countless trips. I prefer a lock suitcase over the hotel safe, I find it to be much more secure.
  6. I would have to say with all sincerity that Patong is one of the worst places I've ever been on this planet. I hope and I pray that I never end up back there again. There are some very beautiful areas of Phuket, but for me the Russian infiltration is a huge issue. I'm just not fond of them, at all.
  7. I've been saying for a long time that Trump is a very very dangerous man, yeah just go ahead and attack our allies they're a little bit behind on their bills. What can one even say? Sometimes I think shooting himself in the foot is just a natural reflex.
  8. We will likely never know what Putin has on Trump but he definitely has something. That makes Trump a very dangerous man, as the president of the country. There's no question that Trump has an affinity and an affection for despots and dictators.
  9. Motorcycles and scooters are like guns, it is the user who is dangerous not necessarily the instrument. I've been driving motorcycles my whole life. I've been driving a scooter for well over a decade on Samui and on the mainland without an incident. What it requires is great skill, a lot of experience and the willingness to drive very carefully. Many come here to Thailand without any skill, and end up driving a motorbike and just think what could possibly go wrong? The answer is alot.
  10. This post might relate to some Europeans or Aussie's with a nationalized health care plan, Canadians too. It definitely does not relate to Americans where Medicare is insufficient and healthcare costs are ridiculous. One is much better off in Thailand being self-insured. Sorry to burst the author's bubble, but the quality of life here is infinitely higher than it is back in the US, for all but the wealthy. I am grateful for everyday that I have here. If something catastrophic happens to me, see you baby I've had a good life.
  11. As a lifelong Democrat I have never liked her, did not like her as district attorney of San Francisco did not like her as Attorney General of California. I have never liked her, and I thought including her in the ticket to begin with it was a terrible choice. I think continuing to include her in a second term is a terrible choice. This horrific woman is one heartbeat away from the presidency. Nobody that I know likes her, respects her, admires her, or considers her to be competent. She is in so far over her head. It's not too late Joe to change your mind.
  12. Those sugary drinks are the worst, one cup of Thai iced tea probably has six or seven spoons full of sugar in it, that is diabetes waiting to happen.
  13. You live and you learn, and eventually survival instincts kick in. You never bring a stranger into your house or apartment without having all your valuables locked up, whether you're asleep or not. When you do go to sleep if the person stays over, everything gets locked up in a safe or at least a locked suitcase. Better yet, in a locked room. Everything from the smartphone to the laptop to the all the money and jewelry. It's just basic preventative measures and common sense. I guess his first trip here he's a bit ignorant of how to travel safely. And very naive.
  14. This man is a traitor to his nation on so many levels I don't even know where to start. The degree to which he misunderstands basic qualities of decency is astonishing. Theerayut Suwankesorn should be locked up and disbarred from practicing law. He is a menace to society.
  15. I did look into it and I considered it. The tax issue is a huge factor though we'll see how that plays out here. Difficult for an American to get a long-term visa to live there. There are a few other factors why I'm remaining here. The language would be an advantage as my Spanish is pretty good, but the Spanish that they speak in Spain is probably the most challenging Spanish spoken on the planet, both from a standpoint of comprehending and speaking. Even Cuba is easier.
  16. Why do you think? Real journalists might have asked real questions? Why did you try to have Navalny killed? Why is your most viable political opponent locked up for 20 years? Etc, etc.
  17. Carlson was completely out of his league. 1. He is not a journalist. 2. He's not really interested in truth. 3. He seems to be sympathetic toward Putin and awed by him, which is not a particularly good position for an interviewer to be in.
  18. Many of us thought he was smart, until he invaded Ukraine, and he then demonstrated to us how modest his intelligent really is. He did not get where he is on wits alone, he got to where he is based on his level of viciousness, cunning, cheating, lying, stealing, blackmailing, serial killing and Kompramat.
  19. There is no question about that, they had so much dirt on Trump they knew that he could be easily manipulated. Nobody really knows the extent of Kompramat that they had on the big guy. Videotaped Moscow orgies? And what else?
  20. I left Samui nearly a decade ago, as it became unbearable with traffic, congestion, over development, and over pricing. Never looked back. I visit occasionally, and am reminded of all the reasons we left.
  21. What can one say? One of the huge issues here is the princely treatment given to boys. They are nothing special. On any level. Yet, the parents let them get away with nearly anything, and spoil them rotten. What Thai parents need to start saying to their sons is this: You are nothing special. Your sister is as good as you, or better. She works harder, she is more ambitious and she does not take everything, and everyone for granted. So, until you prove to us, to the family, and to the community that you are special, by your deeds, actions, and hard work, you are not anything but a normal kid. Nothing more. My guess is there are alot of Thai parents who wonder later, where did I go wrong with my son, and why did he turn out to be so self entitled, so spoiled, so unwilling to put in a hard days work, and how did he become so rotten, and so undeserving of our care and protection? Also, it is my observation that alot of parents seem to have lost the art of parenting. The child sort of becomes the boss. This is epidemic in Thai households with the sons, who are treated as if they are very special, when they are just ordinary boys, who have proven nothing to the world yet, as to their worthiness for adulation. As a result, children today are less self-reliant. Many preteen children don’t yet know how to be alone at bedtime and they haven’t been forced to learn. Parents band-aid the issue by allowing co-sleeping.
  22. Correct. And I know many college grads who are barely scraping by too. It is what you do with it, that makes the person. It also has alot to do with what major one chooses. Some are essentially useless in the real world.
  23. So, in theory, I can wire transfer 1 million baht, or more, twice a year to my wife, without any issues? If so, this solves the problem for many of us. As long as we are able do it in lump sums. Correct?
  24. It wouldn't surprise me if there was a group of people that were leaking these sort of things in an effort to discredit him. Thailand is third only to Russia and Cambodia, when it comes to the elite and the powerful attempting to bring down the opposition. The major difference being that Navalny is now spending 20 years in prison due to Putin being the most corrupt politician on the planet.
  25. I quit high school in the 10th grade as I couldn't stand it. Fortunately I got my GED later, and was able to skip the last 2 years of high school. Then went to college but only for 2 years. I don't really see the need for university unless it's a very specialized application like medical technician, engineering, medicine, or an MBA from a good school. Many people make it in this life without the need for university. I've been a successful businessman my whole life without it, and never really put much stock in a university education.
