  1. When I was growing up, we took drivers education courses. They showed us horrendous films, of semi trucks plowing into cars, and literally obliterating everything in their path. They also showed us graphic images of head on collisions. 120mph impacts. Even as a young kid, it made quite an impression. It was horrific, and it was hard to get those images out of your head afterwards. But, it left a lasting impression, and when I started driving, I understood it was serious business, and that it was a very dangerous thing to do. Also, I had the benefit of my lovely Mom, as my instructor. She spent countless hours in the car with me giving me tips, advice, and teaching me driving etiquette, courtesy and respect toward other drivers. That was priceless, and I doubt many Thai kids benefit from that kind of guidance. I see people driving here, with their families in the car, and doing things, and taking the kinds of risks no rational or sane person with common sense would do. What for? To gain one minute? Why take those risks? What is the logic? Often, when I am cruising along at 100kph, or more, someone cuts right in front of me. Or someone comes out from the side road, right in front of me. I have to slam on my brakes, or change lanes to avoid him. I look in my rearview mirror, and there is nobody behind me. So, if he had waited two seconds, he would have had completely safe passage onto the highway. What gives? Where is the intelligence, caution, and prudence? Where is the common sense? What about just the survival instinct?
  2. You do make some good points. And how about the length of time it takes the ambulance to get to the hospital due to road congestion, and many people's unwillingness to extend courtesy to an ambulance? There are so many factors, some of them cultural, and as you say, this leads to a perfect storm.
  3. And I am also basing this on experience. Nowhere else in the world have I seen people consistency take the kinds of chances and risks in the road, that they take here, with their families in the car. Nowhere. When they could have waited four seconds to make the uturn or turn onto the highway, and have a completely clear path, they instead choose to take a tremendous risk. It is beyond comprehension. I see it all the time. My eyes do not lie to me. This rarely ever happens to me in the US.
  4. I agree. A doll would be of no interest. A well made android would be amazing. I sense Western woman will have a very hard time competing with them, when the time comes. Likely not in our lifetimes. Likely not for a another century. We over estimate ourselves as a species.
  5. I tend to agree. But, are you presuming the vast majority of terrible accidents here are human errors, that could not have been avoided? If I decide to cut you off on a highway, when you are going 120kph, and I am making a u-turn, and there was plenty of room behind you for me to make a safe turn, is that an error, if it results in a horrific, fatal accident, and I take the lives of you and your family? Sometimes an error is wearing white after Labor day in New York City. And sometimes an error is invading Germany in the winter. I don't make the kind of errors that result in bad accidents, much less fatalities. Why? Because I am very, very careful on the road, and very, very respectful of other drivers, their lives, and those of their families. That is a choice that results in NOT making very many terrible mistakes.
  6. There are two sides to every story. Personally, I don't understand why he wouldn't just get a divorce. But, it is very possible he has not had sex at home in years. And there could be multiple issues. She would be smart to just let him do his thing.
  7. 1. Low maintenance. 2. She will never contradict you. 3. She never ages. 4. You do not have to keep her entertained, nor do you have to spend any money on her. Once you get past those immediate advantages however, some of us would argue there is nothing that beats a good woman. The companionship, the humor, the TLC (if one is very fortunate), and the ability to socialize with her, amongst friends and family. I won't go into the mindset of a guy who chooses to live with a doll, but this is one of those occasions I agree with the government.
  8. An extraordinarily sad commentary. You can cite theories like the Dunning-Kruger effect, but it has no bearing on a conversation with a person who has devoted their life to being a conscious, mindful, attentive, sober, highly talented driver. It just does not relate to someone who takes ridiculous risks with their entire family on board. No parallel on any level. If you are going to cite stuff, try to make your recitations relevant.
  9. I am often on the highway, and I see a buffoon making a u-turn, or entering the highway in front of vehicles going high speed, when they could have waited 4 seconds and had a clear path. It is almost as if their reasoning would not allow that cautious path of action. The only way to survive here on the road, is to be patient, have eyes in the back of your head, drive with caution, and always, and I mean always watch out of the other guy. Chances are, he does not have much driving skill, nor patience, nor reason, nor common sense. You cannot be too careful on the road here. Especially considering that the toy police offer no traffic safety, prevention, enforcement of the law, or concern toward the prosecution of very reckless drivers. Those of us with driving skill, and a strong desire for not only survival, but the avoidance of terrible injury, are constantly scanning the road, in front of us, beside us, and behind us. There are an exceptionally high number of reckless fools on these roads, and it is the only way to preserve our lives, and those of our families, and friends, who may be driving with us, and depending on us.
  10. No way. This has to be fake news. I doubt 3% of the population would support this man. He is about the worst choice possible, and lacks any leadership ability.
  11. Sounds like fun to me. Retaliation and defamation mean nothing to me. Some social trends are designed to be ignored.
  12. China's denial means very little. The intentions of the CCP are heinous, at best. Organ harvesting, slavery, and concentration camps, are the tip of the iceberg.
  13. He certainly appears to be a heroic figure, and psssesses the kind of sincerity and willingness to reveal ugliness and corruption that the big joke can only dream about.
  14. We were referring to Anutin. See the previous post on the thread. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul graduated from Hofstra University, United States with Bachelor Degree in Industrial Engineering. He has also received Honorary Doctorate Degree in several fields, including Civil Engineering, Management, Public Administration, and Economics. A minor level of expertise in cement does not qualify one to be the health minister of a nation during a pandemic.
  15. Always good to set high aspirations. But, the issue with plastic is that a high percentage of it simply cannot be reused. It is very hard to sort and there are too many grades of it. Best to avoid as much use of it as possible. 1. I bring re-usable bags with me every time I go shopping. I use the larger shopping bags I buy in the US, which are made of recycled materials. Most of the clerks have to be dealt with. Even when they see my bag, they still start putting the stuff in plastic. I always mai sai toom. No plastic! Then they start loading up my bag. Most look at me like I am from Mars. Do I care? Not one iota. About 1% thank me, and get it. Not many do. My Thai wife does not like bringing the bags to the store. I compel her to. By now, she expects it, and sometimes even asks if I have any bags in the car, or on the motorbike. Same with the water bottles. It used to embarrass her. Now, it is second nature, as I have been doing this for so long, she expects it. So, if a Thai can be conditioned to follow these simple principals, then anyone can. 2. I bring a bottle of water with me, every time I go to a restaurant. I refill my plastic bottles from the 20 liter bottles at home. It is easy. I never buy bottled water at a restaurant. This saves 300-600 bottles a year. I use a plastic bottle dozens of times. I never get any flack from the restaurants. Only once did someone say something to me. She said you cannot bring your own water. My response was if you serve the water in a glass bottle, and I do not have to consume a plastic bottle, I am happy to pay for that. She was lost. I told her to leave and get me my food. She went away. We simply cannot say we are concerned about the environment, and then do nothing about it. Action demonstrates commitment. Lack of action demonstrates nothing. Lastly, restaurants can demonstrate their commitment, by serving drinking water from the 20 liter bottles. Alot of local places do this. But, the tourist places don't. It saves alot of plastic. They lose a small amount of revenue, by not selling thousands of bottles of water. But, their operation is still profitable, and they are making a real difference. There really is not need to be consuming water in plastic bottles. At least not often. There are alternatives. Those damn bottles are a real culprit, when it comes to fouling the environment. What can we do, if we say we care?
  16. Anutin providing leadership. That is a bizarre concept. He, like Prayuth and Prawit do not have a nanogram of leadership ability, within their entire bodies
  17. You mean his engineering degree? He never had any qualifications to be health minister and his appointment had nothing to do with merit or ability.
  18. Speaking truth in the face of deception, obfuscation, deflection, and cover ups can be a terrible thing.
  19. True. But, they appear just as willing to shake down their own. Anything for a buck.
  20. I am fairly certain who runs the show. Greedy corporations and Big Pharma used to have influence. Now, it appears they OWN the government. And I agree on Harris. She is dreadful.
  21. Maybe he thought the RTP was an actual law enforcement agency when he joined. How disappointing that would be.
  22. He likely struck a deal with the RTP. They need to continue their lucrative franchises, so better for them to keep this illegal. Convenient to fine unsuspecting foreigners. This has never been about health.
  23. Both the victim and the spectacularly stupid kid who shot the gun were very light on survival instincts. Dumb and dumber. Not much to say, really.
  24. Emotionally, I am only 13 years old. I know I look and smell like a man, but I stopped maturing at a very young age. Therefore, I do things outside of my control. Like killing the wife. Didn't mean it. Oops. And she had no reason to cheat on me even though I am a serial bed destroyer. I am a really good guy other than my extreme immaturity, lack of emotional development and lack of self control. Guess I might have to go to prison now. And I guess the fellow inmates might be harder to beat up than my wife.
  25. He is a very good man. And I have long thought he was way, way too noble for the office of president. Perhaps that was his downfall. Not tough enough.
