Both. But, the tragic part is that it gives dumb, ignorant, nasty, grouchy, uncharitable and hateful people a voice. That is a horrendous thing for society. They simply were not heard before, and the world was a better place for it.

Poll: More grandparents than parents are bringing up Thai children
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Largely correct. University used to serve a vital function. These days, that is not necessarily the case. Unless one graduates with a medical degree, medical tech, nursing, an MBA from a top 20 school, or a degree in engineering, the prospects are not what they used to be. And the debt can be outrageous. College seems to be a racket these days. Big business. And who wins in the end? The university. Vocational school, or specialized training, may have more application, in this world. -
Poll: More grandparents than parents are bringing up Thai children
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
In general, the art of parenting seems to be getting lost. Letting grandparents raise the kids is tragic. They are even more lenient than today's parents. It creates a very weak generation. -
Spot on. One of the worst things to happen to civilization and popular culture in a very long time. Along with Twitter and Instagram, these (fame seeking) platforms are dumbing down society, and helping form a netizen victim culture. Also, when you give ignorant people like Kyrie and Kanye a platform, they will misbehave and say dumb stuff. Social media is not a step forward for mankind. (This forum excepted, lol).

Thai beer is only rivaled by Serbian beer, and the mass produced American beers, in terms of the very low quality. Poor grade of hops, barely, and the production process seems to be entirely lacking in pride. Typical of the big monopolies. Even a large production beer, like Beer Laos blows away any Thai beer, hands down. Thailand desperately needs a vital craft beer movement, and the youth are ready to mount it. If only the dinosaurs would stop protecting their "bankers" and move out of the way. In other words, allow some progress, you backwards dinosaurs! It is almost as if they equate the craft beer movement with youth and rebellion. Keep the youth down, at all costs, and continue to protect the billionaires.

Am I the only one who is totally suspicious of this man's sincerity? I don't buy his game for a minute. It appears to be all about publicity seeking and hunger for the limelight. The real question is, why was he brought back from exile? Has he done anything worthwhile? In a land where little is done to fight corruption, it seems some are convinced he is the savior. The one and only? Really?

Travelling from pattaya to Koh Samui
spidermike007 replied to parafareno's topic in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao
I don't know if they fly out of Pattaya. No idea. Check it out. -
Thailand was a land of immigrant for 1000 years. Sukhothai, Ayutthaya, and Chiang Mai (Lanna) were major trade capitals throughout history, and remained very open to outsiders. Countless traders came to Thailand and ended up staying here. Ever wonder why you see so many different looks? Persia, Sumatra, Laos, Burma, Vietnam, China, India, Sri Lanka, and the list goes on. It is only recently, especially since the ignoramus nationalist Phibun that Thailand has developed a closed mind, a nationalist mindset, and forgotten where and how they fit in, in this world.

Biden suggests voting for Republicans is a threat to democracy
spidermike007 replied to onthedarkside's topic in World News
Actually, Biden has done quite alot. And he is likely somewhere in the middle of the list. Trump was likely 43rd, after Andrew Johnson and Buchanan. Harris is a different story. https://www.cbsnews.com/pictures/presidents-ranked-worst-best/2/#app -
Biden suggests voting for Republicans is a threat to democracy

Defending democracy from what? Itself? Or the 7 million more voters? Every court has ruled against Trump, and his wizard of Oz claims. Every court. -
Travelling from pattaya to Koh Samui
spidermike007 replied to parafareno's topic in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao
When we lived in Samui, we used to use Air Asia out of Surat. It did swallow alot of hours. But, it was kind of fun to deny BA those tickets, which are very over priced. Sometimes we got super deals as low as 200 baht to Bkk and same with the return trip. Fortunately, Surat Airport is not a worthless airport like Hua Hin, which barely ever sees an airplane. -
Government’s new liquor production edict only benefiting brew pubs
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This is highly regressive policy, and is bad for the nation. It keeps Thailand moving in a backwards direction. The Prayuth way. -
Is there ever a valid excuse to not have nearly all counters open during the hours when many flights are expected? Is this really too much to ask? Same applies to outgoing flight. Ran into a 45 minute wait on my way out recently. Totally unjustified. Bad performance. Surely, like nearly all govt. departments, immigration is over staffed too.

It is the PLSP syndrome. Prayuth lip service to the people. A promise is made, and two weeks later, all is forgotten. It has been like this for 8 long years. Mr. Insincerity. There is no follow up in his game. And likely no intention to follow up. Does he care? At all? Certainly not about traffic safety. So much could be done to improve on "worst in the world" status.

Government claims its liquor policy is in the public interest
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
She explained that it will promote fair competition, equal market access. Wow. That is quite a load of nonsense, even coming from these guys. One would think the people are accustomed to disinformation by now. This one elevates the art to another level. This is the opposite of free market economics and fair competition. This is utter protectionism. Absolute corruption. Talk about a complete lack of credibility. Boon Rawd Brewery, which makes Singha, and ThaiBev, which brews Chang, the country’s best-selling beer, are owned and run by two of the wealthiest families in Thailand. Through longevity and political influence, these two breweries have dominated Thai beer for nearly a century, forcing out or crushing any competition, foreign or domestic. And we all know how they easily accomplish this. -
The world is full of scammers these days. I get solicited all the time, by email and online. We just simply have to have a good nose and have a chuckle. Some of the scams are quite creative! There are many millions who just refuse to work for a living anymore, and would rather suck the blood of society. And never, ever send money to a woman you have met online, and never spent any time with. This is rule #1. Only suckers fall for that trap. It is all about self respect. Don't be a desperado!

Oh, please. The Thais are doing a fine job of pushing up land and housing prices, on their own. We would not make a dent into that market. There should be no cost minimum. Every foreigner with a work, retirement or marriage visa should be entitled to buy up to 2 rai, and build on it and own the home in their name. This comes down to courtesy, respect, honor and dignity, shown to Thailand's expat population. Nothing more.

I have Netgear routers and satellites set up in my house, and they work very well. 500mb speeds throughout the house on wifi. This just appears to be a glorified router, with a fancy name.

Xi Jinping To Give A Keynote Speech At Apec CEO Summit
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Denying China, Cuba, and North Korea are communist is like saying AOC is a moderate. One can argue all day long about what it means and why most communist states have failed. But, allowing them to pose as anything other than communist is unproductive and disengenuous. China may appear to be semi democratic as it relates to their economy. That is where it ends. -
Xi Jinping To Give A Keynote Speech At Apec CEO Summit
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yes. And Xi likely added if they question my status as the legitimate leader of China, we harvest their organs. It is an easy solution to silence your opponents.
