Any Company in BKK can pull LAN cable through a house
recom273 replied to skippybangkok's topic in IT and Computers
I notice every air conditioning fitter also offers LAN cabling, along with electrical and CCTV. It might be worth speaking to one of them first. I used to hold various installer accreditations in the UK. I notice there are a lot of mikrotik certified admins in Thailand who do good installs in hotels and hospitals. I were going to look for a good installer, even if I had no interest in the product, I would find a data cabling company who could admin a mikrotik system, your regular AC / CCTV installer wouldn’t be able to comprehend, (I have a mikrotik router at home that I try to follow an admin certification, and it’s hard work). I would see it as some possible guide to quality. But, yes, extenders are crap .. as mentioned, have you tried a decent access point system, UniFi or Aruba, regular tp-link deco mesh? ETS: sorry no clues in a number. -

You have to feel so sorry for the guy, his health really has taken a tumble since his return, the pressure of incarceration has really knocked the stuffing out of the poor old boy. I wish him all the best (not). -
What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2023)
recom273 replied to CharlieH's topic in Entertainment
Watched The Continental last night, some good casting, Ben Johnson was a good choice, potter from Myans. The soundtrack is well picked, so many long forgotten tracks, Roundabout by yes, (as much as I hate them) Pink Floyd - welcome to he machine, and the awesome homicide by 999 which I haven’t heard in years. All shot on set in Hungary, by the looks of. Pretty impressive. -

I wasn’t having a pop, all your recommendations are always well accepted. The Dalmatian was always a bit of seal of quality 🙂 I use sonarr / radarr / prowlarr / jellyseer to download stuff, it avoids spending any time on torrent sites - you to just type the show into the box, searches all the trackers and downloads the best copy. Sometimes you need to do a bit of digging to get to the right name, it’s all good funl. Even these sites like tvdb, tmdb and IMDb can’t agree on titles - I don’t know if anyone notices, but the guys who cap these shows for the torrents and Usenet community do, tv channels are constantly renaming shows and episodes before and after they are shown. I’m told it’s a nightmare. I have orders from the doc atm, stay in bed and rest - just watched The Wimbledon Murders, a sky production, an interesting tale of a time I know nothing about. -

@Will27 only does it to make it difficult .. it’s like a bit of a treasure hunt. I like it! It just adds a little more interest value. I miss wills old Dalmation avatar the reaction icons in this thread, it gave a little indication of the regular contributors rating. I only found the isereali version, through the auto downloader and will find the subbed version when I get around to it. Just got around to watching The Reckoning - I thought the first two episodes were excellent, I liked the way Steve cougan played the role of the nasty <deleted> that jimi saville was and the journalist, who I remember some were reconstructed scenes from when Louis met jimi - I will watch the Louis Theroux doc again this week. @mikebell Brassic got a bit stale last season, but I’m enjoying this series. Funny as f but never as good as S01. im also enjoying the final season of Billions I noticed slow horses returns at the end of November or thereabouts. -
I always think one of the biggest problem here is being forced to learn English. Some kids do not have the ability to learn a language. I didn’t, we learned French as a basic, followed by German and Russian. I dropped out of French and studied European studies, which I was interested in, was a mix of geography and history. Yet here, we are required to teach kids who have no interest in English in the same class who understand that English will play a major role in their future careers. I taught in the south where kids know that if they can speak English, and have technical skill then the oil industry (was) is a ticket to future wealth. Parents are hammering their kids from an early age. Why should these kids be kept back by students that don’t give a flying one. Force the kids who do have an ability to learn in a different class to the kids who will need English in the r future careers and let the kids with no interest learn agriculture or a building trade.

I have two, a black and decker, general clipper, does the job, for trimming the hedges into shape. I guess for 1000B or thereabouts, you are correct, you just need to trim on a weekly basis once the hedges get to height. I also have a handheld rechargeable chainsaw, cheap as chips, for the bigger branches. I wish could get a proper makita or ryobi one, but I just see cheap Chinese jobs. One thing I learnt, if you let any Thai person trim hedges or bushes then get a cordless, rechargeable one, one kid went through the power cord twice in about as many minutes, just wouldn't listen to reason - dont go all the way around the bush, you will cut the cord on the other side, bang.

What would you do if someone stole your bag?
recom273 replied to Chris Daley's topic in General Topics
I was just thinking about this the other day, lived in Bangkok for years, travelled on the bus many times, I forget where I kept my money and cards now, maybe a slim wallet in my shirt pocket, idk. Before I started work and was dodging around BKK at all times of day and night, I had a big fabric wallet with a surf company logo on. I also used at weekends - Never ever had a problem with pickpockets, even when leaving a club, looking for a taxi and those times where ladyboys try and walk up close to you and try to distract you. -
Yes, it’s strange isn’t it. Why no slots? It makes for easy alignment. No, it’s for data cable. The basket in your link is for mains cable, it’s difficult to wrap the Velcro or ties around. I want it as much for display, dropping 24 cables down to a server cabinet on the floor. Something like this. https://dura-tray.com/accessories/ I would use their double clamp and screw directly into a channel nut. I can see they have lots of other types of basket fixings that go straight in the wall.

Opening a Bank Account.
recom273 replied to strikingsunset's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Yes, Banks (Kasikorn and other banks in Central Fest) in Khon Kaen don't seem to have an issue with opening a bank to a tourist visa holder (reports from the past 10 months) - for example, you "may" want to convert your TV to a retirement or marriage extension, there are quite a lot of foreigners here, they seem to understand the need for immigration to see an account with seasoned funds. They do however need to see a certificate of residence - immigration issue them free to non-O holders (I have had 2x free certificates over the past 12 months) but charge 500B for TV holders (this may have changed in the recent immigration office shake up). I hope that gives you enough reasons, and enough details to demonstrate it is possible without an agent or a solicitor - but it all depends upon your location, wether rules have changed recently or the manager has taken their breakfast / lunch break. -
lol .. thanks, I should have thought of that. Yes, my electrical wholesaler had it, cheap as chips, but no slots behind to allow easy alignment tho’. I liked the way your conduit is fixed so bought some clips too. I find that I’m having to overthink everything at the moment - 1. I went to wholesalers asked them for 3mx 100mm cable basket .. what for? Run data cables, no, don’t have. Which is why I didn’t think they would carry unistrut. 2. Find cable basket and mounting clips at a solar power suppliers. Do you have unistrut .. why? Putting the cable basket on a wall, no don’t have. I guess they just use box section to fit drops. 3. Return to wholesalers, do you have unistrut, yup, great, do you have the channel nuts? No don’t have. What are you going to use them for .. to attach the mounting plates, to mount the cable basket that you don’t sell. Never mind, it’s all good fun. It’s only 24 cat.6 so I can just 3D print some channel nuts. IMG_9231.webp

Which cities in Isaan are the most English friendly?
recom273 replied to smallchungus's topic in Isaan
I just got back from visiting my village handyman / welder - We have these conversations, where he speaks the local village dialect, which I refuse to learn, i'm speaking Thai and using the odd bit of local language, and he's adding, in English numbers, and the odd, "odd OK, I understand" and both our wives are rolling about. Point being, people (not only AN posters) who make claims about the Issan people not speaking Thai know absolutely nothing of how it works here, it's not individual languages, it's just communication. -
A VPN is not specific to any operating system, its a server. I just took a look on Lazada, I didnt even know you could pay a sub through Lazada. idk why you wouldn't pay through regular means, but if you want to remain anonymous, then pay through crypto. I think you are saying that certain VPN helper apps drain your battery, right? This is because they are free VPN and are constantly phoning home with your data, whereabouts, etc. If you purchase a VPN subscription mentioned here, you can turn it on and off manually, I use an iPhone, and when loading the helper app, the iPhone adopts the credentials for the VPN and can be toggled on and off. As mentioned, individual users have specific requirements from a VPN, some use them for banking, privacy, to access geolocked video content - maybe someone can suggest something that can assist you, but you needn't look for a specific android VPN.

The police are the last thing you should worry about. If you mange to find a nice secluded place, you might find you are sharing it with the local teenage scooter gang. I have a little experience wild camping, mostly in Malaysia where its more acceptable (mostly as the hotels and whatever are not so appealing) It gets really hot and close in a tent in Thailand, you need somewhere to wash up in the morning or you will feel pretty horrible the next day. You will take your tent down at first light. Some resorts and all national parks allow camping but it's not a cheap alternative. tbh, you are better off getting a cheap hotel, but by all means bring a hammock and tarp, you could just throw it up if you could find a quiet spot and quickly breakdown at first light.

I knew that was going to be an answer, I dont know why I didnt check first. I have never ordered from RS here, have you? For one, its seems expensive (they give price per length and only supply 2 lengths in a "pack" so its automatically double the price) I think I could get some slotted 2x2 fabricated for way less, just lacking in time time atm.

lol .. you were quick off the mark there, I had to laugh at that.

Has anyone unistrut for sale here. I want to run a cable basket down a wall. In the past the sparks would install the basket, first bolting the unistrut to the wall, then fixing the basket with a sliding penny washer. The clips and basket are available at a solar power supplier but no straightforward way of fixing it. Any clues?

Flash Express denies allegations of staff exodus and warehouse crisis
recom273 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Exactly, the contents of the parcel is nothing to do with this article, the deliveries or flash express. I am always confused by posters who distrust paying for goods - I always pay for the goods, I always receive the goods, maybe a day or two later than I expect from some carriers, but that's nothing to do with the vendor. It's due to bad logistics management. If there is an issue with the quality of the goods I always get a refund, that's nothing to with carrier. -
What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2023)
recom273 replied to CharlieH's topic in Entertainment
Just watched a documentary Everybody In The Place - I kind of enjoyed it but he rattled on too much about the miners strike, I do recognize the connection of the thatcher years and the Bright bill. but anyway, if it appeals, worth a watch. -
Exactly, I use a pi-hole - a system wide smart DNS would render that useless.

Idk, a few guys I know use them, but they are solely connecting to UK servers. I think @xylophone picked up on a previous comment I made and seems happy with I think, https://dns4me.net - They aren’t for everyone, I’m not interested because they seem systemwide, I’m not interested in going into the router settings everytime I want to change location. Couldnt agree more with you regarding your comment on free VPN, posters need to catch a wake up, up to them if they want to use them or not but do plenty of research first. The easiest method seems to be to install the “helper” app on your smart tv or android box, and just change the server when you need to change country. I had the surfshark app on my firetv and it would auto start into UK server every power up so I could watch iplayer.
-
I had this with PIA. Apparently users suspect that they allow you access to a faster server in the trial period and change to a server with greater traffic after you have signed up, idk if that's true. I trialed PIA, and after a couple of days I wanted to get a refund and buy a proper subscription, the refund service was really quick, when I chatted to support and said, wow! the service is great, he gave me a coupon code. After my first year, I contacted customer chat and asked for a coupon for a loyal customer .. "no can, sorry but what you could do is sign up for a different account" - VPN and seedbox providers are just cowboys.

The 1080 shows you get from torrent trackers are capped by UK residents, who can access 1080 HLS streams or use DAB tuners, if you use an VPN you get access to some (upscaled) 1080 streams, as you say they still look good, even the 720 DASH that you can pickup using surfshark are good and reliable. We are talking about the different streams available on BBC iplayer.

There is a difference between can and have, when 500 people log in from a single ip,address that happens to be in a data center in docklands or park royal to watch eastenders do you think the beeb don’t notice? They don’t particularly care, restricting access is good enough, for example you can’t get a true 1080 stream using a vpn, but if you are in the UK, you can get a 1080 stream.
