How do you react to Thais who do not respond to greetings?
recom273 replied to zhounan's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Interesting topic - I sometimes feel, like when you go to “Dooooo home” and there are a group of reprobates, I mean employees flopped over boxes of tiles watching TikTok on their phones, and one or two will wai, bow and give a long drawn out “saaaawaaatdeee” - I just wish they wouldn’t. I do notice a lot of Asians just can’t respond to a greeting, they resort to the “I’m fine thanks and you?” - I don’t see it as racist or rude, maybe more socially inept or awkward. -
I never have an issue, i love my 5.1 surround system, and I love the detail that sound engineers put into sound production these days, but I dont think spending 1500B will really help you. Maybe look for a good soundbar?

Internal flight carrying significant amount of cash
recom273 replied to Woof999's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
I guess everyone's experience could be different, the point is that carrying millions of baht to a land office is really not unusual, and it's not uncommon for sellers to ask for cash on the day for the reasons given. I would rather pay by bank transfer / bankers draft / internet transfer but was told on multiple occasions by the land office it would take an extra day. I would have even waited, i'm not that impatient but had a return flights booked, as its Thailand others experience may vary. -
I was just about to say, afaik the foreign runners (apart from western fun runners) that are here are competitive / pro African runners, they travel over SEA and compete for the prize money, lol. Not that I know anything about it, but aren't they recruited / paid to run for clubs or are they pace setters? There were a few in Hat Yai, you would see them at immigration, along with the Cameroon football players, they were there for their visa extensions based upon work (legally) and had work permits. I do see that there should be a best of Thailand prize because as mentioned, its just a bit of a Sunday morning jog for the Africans, but the marathon organizers are shooting themselves in the foot, perhaps its is racial and they no longer want the Africans taking the pot.

I dont know if anyone is interested anymore, or even if it has been mentioned .. the penultimate, The Grand Tour, The sand job, aired on Thursday night - just one more and they are retiring.

Internal flight carrying significant amount of cash

Mate, you have 1.5K posts - you should know by now that you don't have to justify anything to anyone here. Although it sounds absolutely perfect! It's great to read your reasons. Lots of people dont know the value of a perfectly square plot for starters. I'm pretty sure you know what title, I think you already know you can't own land here and are buying it for your wife and family, just as I bought mine. When we bought our pieces, people said, "that's expensive - maybe you paid more because you were farang" - well it wasn't, my wife of 20 years did the first approach without even mentioning me and I negotiated it down with the seller close to a price I had in mind after - its also a perfect rectangle btw. We looked at quite a lot of land in the area and were well aware of the price as we had already bought and sold another piece. Hope everything works out! Sounds lovely. -
Thai police cracks down on billion-baht movie piracy network

This is interesting - A Thai bittorrent indexer being busted. I dont think torrent downloaders need to worry so much, but going after a Thai website is a first afaik. -
In Thailand: OK to eat steak tartare?
recom273 replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I guess they mean Goi - Raw Beef Salad. Anyone eating raw Gai or Moo needs their head examining. I'm with @Gottfrid - I dont have a problem with raw beef, its quite tasty - not everyday, just some occasions at busy Issan restaurants. -
Raw onions (from local markets) on sandwiches: OK?
recom273 replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in Western Food in Thailand
We buy string sacks of onions - they are labelled, "Product Of Australia" I presume most carrots and potatoes to be Chinese grown. -
Internal flight carrying significant amount of cash

Try posting in the real estate forum. I have travelled with 2M for a land deal before, not a problem - When withdrawing cash at a bank outside your province be aware they will sting you, I think I paid about 5K or more when I just jumped on a plane to buy land without the cash (the first and last time). Yes, you could get rolled at any time, I was worried leaving the bank, someone could be watching you withdraw the amount and snatch it off you in the car park, also at the land office the next day - you see so many people walking around with A4 envelopes of cash. If I was a Thai criminal I would hold up the land office at 11:00 am in the morning. Even tho' there is a lot of dodgy dealings at the land office (the seller claims a lower price for the land, the tax paid is less and the buyer needs to confirm the lower amount to be paid) they will not transfer the chanote until they see the money change hands - we were told that a bankers draft or bank transfer was OK, but would take an extra day to process, meaning we would have gone through the whole process of waiting for a number to come up the following day - it was easier to carry the cash. 1M THB is disapointingly small when placed in a brown manilla, there were others waiting with far fatter parcels than I. Cash deals are quite normal when buying land, the land may be family land and no family member trusts another, not enough for millions of THB to be put into an individual account - they all want to hold the envelope on the way home, they speed home and divvy up the amount, maybe debts need to be paid, maybe an agent needs to be paid a commision, afaik cash is the norm, although others experience may vary. -
Don't worry, you aren't the only one - I would have preferred not to have become an expert in any building trades, but these guys are so full o'sheet you need to be watching every step they make, it really wears me down. We are currently doing electrics, and yeah, I have had to pretty much do all the planning and containment myself (more like my laborer) and the electrician arrives tomorrow. btw - how about your roller door? Is it economical? where did you find a supplier? I have only casually looked at it yet, but im thinking about an economical solution for a workshop door.

New Honda Click 125 - how many keys should I get?
recom273 replied to Alldar's topic in Motorcycles in Thailand
Keyless? .. you only get one - dont lose it, they are a quite expensive to replace apparently. -
I would get a better roofer to take a look at that. You have a gap between the horizontal ridge and sheets. The “cop jua” (sorry, I only know the Thai, means like ridge covering) should cut the ridge to go around the vertical ridges. The metal ridge covering isn’t so expensive, if you end up replacing it, get a wider sheet and a thicker gauge metal, it will cover any existing screw holes and look a bit smoother.

I can confirm that The Beekeeper is as bad as mentioned. Avoid at all costs, the fight scenes are more like brawls.

I had a renderer doing some work on my build, young guys, obsessed with money and the price of every little bit of work - older and more experienced guys gave a price for all the work combined, but these guys just wanted to walk around with a tape measure. It became a problem later on in the job as they "oh, sorry, we didn't include that in the price" the answer was tough luck, you didn't provide me with a list of work that was included in the job, the price was to finish the job. Anyway, one piece of work we did agree to add on after, one panel - 1.5m x 3m - I asked for the price, I repeated the sum for the dimensions of the wall we were standing next to, he looks at his wife who climbs out the window and runs for the calculator on the phone.

I notice all my aliexpress orders are via flash these days - They are getting really good these days. If I have an order of electrical components, shipping is usually free and the components so much cheaper than from a Thai supplier. I spread the order amongst different companies, I can pretty much guarantee a bag of parcels will arrive within a week now, it used to be two months.

+1 - Just own it! Blaming me for not picking up the phone? I have a cool lazada driver who I know is under pressure - He made some deliveries at 7:00 pm+ and I said, ffs, just bring the next day - to his credit he calls and asks if the next day is ok, generally its fine and I'm happy that he has called.

I sometimes feel that companies in this country are its worst enemy. The other day I needed to send a subwoofer back to the service center - the importer / agent is Powerbuy - I called Powerbuy and I / my wife couldn't get it across to them that we couldn't carry a 18kg subwoofer in a box 70cm cube through central festival. After a few days of back and forth we got to discover they had a collection service - however, it was just two employees who turned up in a Nissan March. The guy called and said he was leaving the shop and we were to pay 300B x2 trips, we had to pay 500B for the technicians in BKK to open the box and check it - all of which I was delighted to pay, the employee gave an account number, which we then discovered was his personal account. The guys showed up and took the speaker, I asked my wife for the service receipt, nothing was offered, they just took the speaker. I can't think of the specifics, but there are a few times where I have had to pay employees personal accounts and presumably they forwarded the payment to the company, I have no reason to assume otherwise as receipts were always provided - but it does happen quite frequently. I assume in this instance the email is warning us of a scam call centre rather than rogue employee, but true occurrences like this are quite frequent.

I think you have the answer here. I was a non-degree teacher for some time, I knew many others in the same situation and the problem wasn't getting a job, it wasn't the authenticity of a degree, the provincial labour office were never a problem, I even had a work permits. The issue was with immigration who wouldn't issue the one year extension without the collection of correct paperwork from various sources. The system used to be self policing, without a visa, how can you stay?

You can contact Ubiquity Thailand 02 114 7275 to check if it's possible. I haven't seen them for sale here, have you? I don't actually see much benefit - they aren't unifi, so im guessing the don't appear on the conroller dashboard. I can monitor my 3BB ONT (same model as @Mutt Daeng details above, on my own home dashboard.
