K bank E-mail with Tax Forms attached ?
recom273 replied to offset's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Thanks, I googled the quote and came back with the same - it also goes on to mention that you need to complete your address, business address and when you became self employed - I can see the page relates to UK CIS scheme, which I escaped by a year or so. I can see a lot of sorry, don't knows, like I say, this is going to be interesting, I kind of just upsticks and left, maybe even a big headache. -
K bank E-mail with Tax Forms attached ?

Do you have a link to the quote? .. this is going to be interesting, I haven't been to the UK in a few of decades, I have no idea about any tax information or UTR. In reality, I dont want to email any completed forms, shouldn't the process be online? I would be happy to go to a branch and get them to walk through the process in English to avoid any confusion. -
I had a colleague who was working at an international school in Myanmar, idk if there was any truth in it, but he said he was teaching kids of the generals and the financial rewards were very attractive. Im currently teaching online in an African school, although the country has been war torn for many years yet these kids wear gold watches and brand name sport shoes. Do you get the feeling you are teaching the kids of the elite? How do you feel about that?

He could .. but he’s quite adamant with his request. I have an iPhone so, CarPlay just works .. I stream music from my own home server, but the app has a radio function, somehow I it has the LBC stream without going to the global app. It also has all the BBC streams too, i kind of like the retro feel of a radio, rather than news on demand from an app.

lol .. the OP wants to listen to Chiang Mai local radio with BBC news on the hour. He has one of those wireless things in his cars, not wifi, wirelessesss. I thought they were out with square wheels and mullets but what do I know. I would thoroughly recommend a CarPlay or android auto enabled head unit.

Immigration - totally useless
recom273 replied to Foxx's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I was a proponent of the online system, used without issue since 2022, then at my last renewal the IO decided to “help me” and do a new 90 day at the time of renewal. Up till then my reports were about 45 days prior to my renewal, so no reason to make the change. Since then I haven’t been able to use the online system, I posted here and it seemed that I needed to post before the one week grace, I did that last time, still no love. I printed off my record of application and showed them 18 successful online applications, even changing address and reporting offices - they had no answer. Yes, I used the autofill magnifier. Yes, I could use the postal service, but why when for a few years the online system worked fine. -
Yes - It’s got an interest story, the first series of Top Boy was the best with score by Brian Eno. Then picked up by Drake and in turn went to Netflix. American Animals is a great film, I have seen it a couple of times. A worthy mention.

PM Paetongtarn May Dissolve House Ahead of Court Ruling
recom273 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It has probably been planned since before the election. Why would the establishment get rid of the family when they can use them? I feel that PT has lost all credibility and their use is becoming less and less, we shall see what happens if there is another round of democratic elections. -
I didn’t read that .. but anyway, It’s not the first time I have heard that there are no plumbers in Thailand, hopefully if someone is building a place then they will ignore their contractors claims and search one out.
-
They are trafficking in Thais to all these call centers in Myanmar and Cambodia. However careful, we have nearly been caught twice. One by pretending to be customs, that was weird, the other was someone pretending to be the land office - when we got passed to a “closer” and they were wanting to add different line accounts, that’s when we knew.
-
Just for the record, as one is here fitting out my bathrooms and tank room. The non-existent plumber is a bit of a myth. They do exist, most work in hotels or industry. My guy has been with us since the footings, planning and advising. The issue is there are no trade schools that teach plumbing, and they aren’t cheap to employ, it’s easier for a contractor to throw a handyman at the job and tell you they don’t exist in Thailand instead of doing a vented system. Even SCG have basic diagrams on their site. My man learned on the job, working in Dubai, then hotels in Bangkok - not only does he understand pipes, but also bathroom construction - putting in metal braces for floating sinks, etc He comes from Khon Kaen but seems to spend a lot of time rolling out private villages in Chiang Mai, he won’t travel to Bangkok - anyone can DM for his number. Another thing about my guy, he’s the only tradesman that does the job, finishes and then after a couple of days rings and asks if everything is ok and can he send the bill - every other “trade” generally wants paying on the morning of the last day, before finishing.

Phuket taxi driver hits foreign man on airport zebra crossing
recom273 replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
The whole system is messed up, just by painting a few lines down, can’t make people stop. It’s probably not true in this instance, but zebras have no place on a 6 lane major route to a city center. They are for low traffic / speed restricted areas, otherwise pelican crossings with control light should be used. These are also ignored. I have experienced young people just walking out into the road, and expecting the drivers to stop - the right of way is not for the pedestrian. If the driver can stop in a safe manner, then they are obliged to, often here there is an idiot rider or driver sitting behind, the speeds on some roads do not allow for safe stopping. When I was at school in the UK, we were taught how to use zebras, you don’t just walk out onto the crossing as I have seen local kids here do. This country needs a system of education and enforcement or nothing will change, however we should be careful what we wish for, does anyone want 5km/h speed limits in residential areas in Thailand. -
What does the average British expat think of Tommy?
recom273 replied to Kinok Farang's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Not really, a lot of them are trying to escape something - benefits, what benefits? After processing they get a room in an old broken down hotel, a couple of quid a day for some cup noodles which they can heat up in a shared microwave. They are coming because, let’s face it, who wants to stay in France? Coming to the UK is far more appealing, moving to an area where they may already have family and friends, a community of people from the same country, familiar food, an opportunity to get a job. Surprising as it seems, they don’t get iPhones handed to them as they get out on the beach, quite the contrary, when they do start work, they pay a higher national insurance contribution from their salary, they don’t just get eternal unemployment benefits. (Charities have been distributing phones because how else do they make appointments with courts, social services and lawyers?). There will always be a bad element in any migration, it’s true that the Somalians make up one of the highest groups in UK prisons, but that might have something to do with the successive Tory governments refusal to process any asylum claims for the past x years, and just allowing them to just remain. Tommy, a true Brit, savior of the people .. someone remind me where he’s hiding out these days? He’s another grifter, the disenfranchised are the easiest group to manipulate to achieve your goal. We learned this from Hitler. Farage, Andrew Tait, Tommy ten names - all running the same grift. When John Lyndon wasnt a fat old hasbeen he said “have you ever been conned?” -
sorry, someone pointed out to me that last night was the finale and I watched a trailer to the next season at the end, which looks off the scale, with the whole Frank Harkness universe expanding. We all know Gary Olman one of the UK’s finest, we have had enough posts about his believable filthy appearance but I thought the scene with Jack Lowden was pretty true to life, he looked so pissed off.

I really enjoyed this mini series, yes, based on a true story. A well worthy recommendation.

if you are appreciate Brit humour, I started S01 of the cleaner the other day, it’s ok. Its just started a third series, so I thought it was worth a look, my mum rates it too. One of the best comedy shows in my recent memory was King Gary - everyone knows a Gary King from around my way. Funny as you like. Brassic has been mentioned here a few times recently. I caught the first couple of the new series, sometimes the series are a bit wobbly, but this one looks solid enough, starting out with Shirley watching 80s Lycra aerobic porn with cling film over the keyboard of his laptop.

it was called, under the dome, I thought it was excellent. The first time Hank from BB appeared on my TV. Another show around that time was Hero’s .. probably quite dated now. The current series and episode of Slow Horses is pretty tense, and it’s not even the finale. (Darkness) Those who kill started off pretty pedestrian but ended up in a pretty dark complex plot, I enjoyed it.

How can I see my home security camera on my Mac - is it possible.
recom273 replied to Bill Poster's topic in Apple Products
Do the cameras use rtsp? You could setup a shinobi or motioneye on your laptop and then login via the web from your Mac. You are better off setting this up on a small mini computer running Debian and logging in via a vpn, wireguard, tail scale or reverse proxy - then you can have remote access from wherever you are, interesting job, if your interested in internet security, best practices, etc. -
Thanks, my schiit modi gave up last week, I have others but schiit gear looks great on my desk. CD players? Who has them these days? I sold some gear from my stash in the UK last week. I sold a technics amp for a prize, apparently it is a much sought after model in retro hifi circles but I could only get 20 quid for a CD player.

Thai visa shake-up: Southeast Asia consulates switch to e-visa only
recom273 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
would any of those countries be in SE Asia? is it that just because they don’t have entry stamps, when leaving to a neighboring country, Thai immigration don’t have a record of you leaving? You aren’t going to win .. it used to be that you could visit Malaysia, send your passport to Hull consulate for a ME 12 month and then get it FedEx’d back. They worked that out too .. -
Thai visa shake-up: Southeast Asia consulates switch to e-visa only
recom273 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Yes .. mine does .. PIA, but how does that benefit you? When you activate your visa, it will be when you enter. When you enter they will want to see a VN entry stamp on the day applied. These people aren’t stupid, why does everyone try to game the system? -

Thai visa shake-up: Southeast Asia consulates switch to e-visa only
recom273 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
this makes perfect sense, it should be priority. My marriage extension has become a joke, the same paperwork with the exception of the kr2, every year. Digital photos that serve no purpose, printed and stuck to an A4 sheet. They have assistants in my local office that check everything, I then proceeed to the officer who then rechecks them in silence, stamps, signature and consideration after 20 mins. I don’t begrudge it, it’s pretty easy but what country wouldn’t have an online form and a place to submit scanned or photo documents? They are just obsessed with stamps and signatures here.
