Thai Viet jet airlines charges for checked luggage
gargamon replied to Dean1953's topic in Chiang Mai
I fly Eva all the time. I get 2 bags, 32kg each included in the fare. That's business class though, but it does prove they take bags over 23kg. I guess in cattle class that may not apply. -
Someone asked and I didn't see a clear response. What is/are the test(s) that can determine if someone has HP? Yes, you can get an endoscopy and they can take samples, but that seems quite cumbersome and likely expensive. There's apparently a breath test, and maybe other mechanisms able to determine whether the bacteria is present. So if someone knowledgeable could tell the tests, and which are available in Thailand, and maybe the estimated cost, it would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, good luck with that. The fact checking includes the talking heads, not just the news station anchors. So faux news is at 58% and CNN is at 22%. I watch CNN regularly and the only false info there is from the Republican pundits who spin their nonsense anywhere that they can.

Payment QR Codes
gargamon replied to WalsallRobbo's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Everyone misses the point behind QR codes. There is no chance of theft by the merchant's employees if they don't get to handle cash. Inconvenience for customers is irrelevant. -
Debit Card.
gargamon replied to NoshowJones's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
You have an ATM card at the new bank or are you using QR codes as I suggested? You're not fixing anything by just getting an ATM at another bank. -
Debit Card.

Better to cut it up and don't get a new one. Use QR codes for payments and cardless withdrawal for cash. -
Have your friend “wise“ the money to your account as he needs it, and then you can give it to him. No need to keep more in hand than he needs for a few days. This would greatly reduce the pain if it is lost.

A Weary Trump Appears to Doze Off in Courtroom Ahead of Criminal Trial
gargamon replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Meanwhile, outside the courthouse, a likely Trump supporter set him/herself on fire. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/apr/19/trump-trial-person-fire A person set themselves on fire on Friday lunchtime outside the lower Manhattan courthouse where Donald Trump is on trial in a hush-money case. Pictures of someone in flames were carried live on television and spread on X, the social media network formerly known as Twitter. The incident occurred just as Judge Juan Merchan was recessing for lunch on the third day of the former president’s trial for fraud, shortly after a full jury of 12, and six alternates, were seated. ---- One down, 70 million to go. -
While you're waiting, download John Adams, much better than the first 3 episodes of Franklin. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0472027

Yes, and there's a reason for that. Go to a bad dentist and get your appointment for tomorrow. I think if he walked in he could probably get a 5 minute evaluation relatively quickly, like within an hour. My appointment for 3 crowns (about 1 hour) was about 3 weeks out from the evaluation.
-
It all depends on the dentist. The dentist that sent you the email says 5k for prep plus the crown cost. Go see Dr Warin. Get an evaluation, maybe as a walk-in, and he'll advise the proper treatments and set up the required appointments.
-
I expanded my response while you were obviously typing this in. Please reread.

What dentist in Pattaya sent you this response? Make an appointment with Dr Warin on Klang for an accurate response. I had a broken tooth under a crown and his wife wanted to do a root canal. Dr Warin looked at it and put in a couple of pins instead in about 15 minutes. 4 or 5 years later and all still ok. I think the charge was about 500bt. My Canadian dentist said he would have done a root canal. It's all in the Benjamins baby. Oh, and about the type of crown, it depends on the location in your mouth. Front teeth are typically e-max and rear teeth are zircon. Be aware the zircon crowns are very strong and will destroy a normal tooth if it is in contact. I tend to also crown the opposing tooth with zirconia if there's contact. Last time the costs with my dentist was 9k for the zirconia and 8k for the e-max, all in.

Move from Laos to Philippines for retirement?
gargamon replied to simon43's topic in Philippines Visa and Immigration
You say that as if it's a plus. San Miguel beer, especially the light variety, is horrid. There was a Manila light that was actually pretty good last time I was there. It was hard to find. I guess San Miguel marketing has locked up the market through payoffs, etc. The payoffs have expanded to Thailand where you cannot get the palatable tiger light and singha light anymore also. Plus, the SM beer gives me a headache, while the others mentioned don't. -
Move from Laos to Philippines for retirement?

Tagaytay. Can be expensive though. Easy to manila where there's the best pi hospitals and the airport. And elevated so it's cooler. -

How nice. You get to (hopefully) make money and not pay taxes on it. What country are you doing your transactions in? Of course, if it's in a retirement account you should be able to do as many transactions as you like without paying taxes, as long as you don't take any cash out. That's what I do. The S&P500 fund is not in a retirement account. Any trades I do are within retirement accounts so this applies to me also.
-
Don't forget the taxes you would have to pay if you liquidated your fund to move it over. This is something many traders don't consider. My S&P 500 fund has been growing at over 10% a year since the 80's with no income tax paid yet. Taxes on the dividends, yes. Traders get taxed every time they move positions.
