  1. Wrong. I was hit by a truck that a friend and I were trying to get started after it died in one of Samui's floods. The bonnet was up. No one in the truck. Said friend was doing something to the starting motor when the engine suddenly started and the unmanned truck drove forward, went up a dozen steps and finally stopped when it hit a tree. All of the Thais watching started praying for the 'ghost' that was driving the truck. It had an automatic gearbox and had been left in drive. Said gearbox was not a factory install. The truck was converted at some time. The insurance rep tore up the report that I had written for him and asked me to sign a blank claim which he filled in later. Strange but true.
  2. I would rather ask the question 'is he good for the majority of the pisspoor people'? Thaksin was the first PM who was good for them. That is why the rich/military kicked him out.
  3. Tourists carry that much money in cash. Especially if they are not supposed to bring it out of the originating country. I have checked in guests with bagfuls of cash - especially tourists from the Middle East, China, and India/Pakistan etc.
  4. Same here.
  5. I have had high levels of uric acid (gout) forever. But none of the pain. At 26 doc recommended a special diet. (Yes - no alcohol for 6 months.) After 6 months, no change so I ditched the diet and also started drinking again. Then in my early 60's I started to have painful attacks - frequently. A doctor friend recommended that I start to take allopurinol on a daily basis. Have to start when there is no pain. Since then, no pain, no attacks for the last 12 years. See your doc to get advise on the correct dosage.
  6. Grab the land before India does? Similar to what Russia has done in the Arctic.
  7. Sorry, I cannot answer your question, but my solution to fix the acid reflux problem was to raise the head of the bed up by 2-3 inches. Since then, no acid reflux.
  8. And all of the dope heads keep promoting that lie.
  9. Well done that lady. Good way to ensure that your man behaves himself whilst you are working.
  10. Not in my group of friends and neighbours. All of the people that work for me want cash twice a month for their salary.
  11. Nothing to do with 'managing their children'. Everything to do with the evils of the Thai education system. The pervert who organised this pretended to be one of the school's teachers. Thai children do what the teacher tells them - without question.
  12. It's not going too well for the murdering, wannabe Czar at the moment. Good. ????
  13. From cnet.com 'preserve battery life' or encourage you to buy a new one? There is another $500 million lawsuit in the offering.
  14. And the battery on my 6 year old Samsung is still as good as new and I only charge it 2 or 3 times a week. Strange but true.
  15. Or go to the hotel's own web site.
  16. I understand that Apple build redundancy into their phones in order to run the battery down as it gets older. Thus encouraging people to continuously upgrade. My next door neighbour has to recharge her iphone multiple times a day. It is only 2 -3 years old.
  17. Most are hand picked by Prayut and are generals.
  18. The InterConti will definitely be p'ed off about this one. Support for the staff member for sure. Unfortunately, there was a one-off chance to do the 'right thing'. You've blown it Kob.
  19. They have been extorting from us here on Samui for at least 20 years. I (and some neighbours) have written to DHL in Bangkok and in Germany to no avail. DHL use agents. It is the agent that is the problem. For one parcel, I was instructed to go to Bangkok to to pay the duty. (No receipt.) We all refuse to use them now.
  20. All of the dominoes are falling nicely for the watch man.
  21. Surely thou jests. Hope, with what has happened in the last 14 years and the crazy lies and double dealing by the dinosaurs regarding the election results. There is no hope. The only hope was taken out of the game in round one.
  22. Not really. You just need to be a bit canny. Do you still have family in the UK? I left the UK 30 years ago. I gave the bank my MIL's address as my address but told them that I would be back and forth between UK and Thailand. The bank also has my Thai address. I access my money there by using NatWest Online. The only tricky bit here is that my MIL is older than me (I am 72) and I will have to do some fancy footwork when she dies - if I am still alive. I will tell the bank in the UK that I have moved and I will use either my daughter's address or, more likely, the address of my SIL. My pension is frozen as I told the people there that I was living in Thailand. (I do not believe in cheating people.) For the reasons that you have described, I rarely go back to the UK now. Last time was when my wife died - 6 years ago. Thailand is my home. There are some things that will still go to my 'UK address' and my SIL couriers them to me here. Luckily, my in-laws still consider me part of their family. I also have a PayPal account in the UK which was useful when Thailand stopped them for foreigners. Problem sorted.
  23. Why not? Ir will be well fed and have lots of friends to play with.
