Paetongtarn Shinawatra ready to re-spark her political career this October as Pheu Thai leader
She gave birth just prior to the election. She withdrew from active politics for a period. Difficult to be canvass for votes with a baby's head dangling between your legs methinks.

New refugee screening system stirs fear among asylum seekers
Difficult to prove with Thailand's 'fluctuating' rules. eg immigration. Thailand does not want asylum seekers or even genuine refugees. They often return them back to the country that is hounding them.

Transport from/to the islands Phangan, Tao and Samui
Flights to Samui are pretty full at the moment. Last month we had two groups of guests arriving at Bangkok who had not booked their flights. They thought that at 40 flights a day they would catch a flight easily. They had an extra stay in Bangkok for a night. Here are the airlines flying into Suratthani this morning. Air Asia used to do an all inclusive plane/minivan/ferry service. Would you cover for your grandson?
I have children and I 100% would not cover for them. They were brought up to always be honest and fair to others. If they make a stupid mistake, then they need to learn to pay the consequences. Having said all of that, I would also 100% try to support them through their problem for as long as my finances would allow. My son died a long and slow, painful death. Back then I spent ever single baht in my bank account (and even borrowed some) to keep flying back and forth, many many times, to support him and his family, until his death. Another example to show that your statement is not correct - a very good friend of mine had a daughter in her late teens. The daughter's boyfriend was a policeman and he was caught dealing and taking drugs. The policeman got bail instantly. The daughter was locked up as an 'accomplice'. She asked her mum to pay a bribe to get her out of gaol. Mum said no - you did the crime, you must pay for it. Mum and daughter are both Thai.

Violent Attack in Nong Khai Leaves Teen Severely Injured
Maybe it's you or the ones that you come across. The Thais that I work with smile and laugh lots. As do Thais in the area that I interact with. LOS where I am. A million times better than the folk back in the UK whenever I used to visit. Smile and say hello to them and they cross to the other side of the street. (Possibly do not understand English?)

Question for April International (France) Policyholders
I am not up to date as I have not made a claim in years. I had a prostate biopsy carried out in BNH in Bangkok. Excellent hospital but..... ........when I told them that I self insured, the quote was for 70 - 80,000 baht all in (One night stay.) When I asked for a detailed receipt, they worked out that that I had insurance and that my insurance company would pay for it. The bill was 140,000 baht. No negotiation. April refunded the 140k to me but that was about 7 - 8 years ago. I would guess that BNH are on the 'higher premium' list. I am currently trying to claim for a colonoscopy at Wattanapat hospital here in Samui. All April claims have to be via a phone app. (I was in the software industry for 35 years. I do not use phone apps.) After sending emails for three months asking how to claim, they finally responded - snail mail to Asia Expat in Bangkok. I asked for an alternative as we have had no post here on Samui all year (short staffed - Covid). No replay yet. As I said earlier - their back office systems are Krap.

TikTok Fraud
I haven't because I refuse to use apps. However, at least three of my friends have complained of the same problem. Apparently, the only way to stop it is to change your debit card.

Scam call
I do not think that the call is connected to reading AN. I read the papers on a desktop computer. I have no apps on my phone other then the manufacturer's ones that I cannot delete. I receive quite a few +69 calls. I just block them.

Question for April International (France) Policyholders
I was with April (France) and then I moved to Asia Expat. (At their suggestion.) I still pay my premiums to April (France). Bangkok Hospital chain is NOT on their list of recommended hospitals. I do not know about others. A friend of mine was looking to move to April and was told that his premiums would be higher if he used those hospitals. I have only made one claim in 12 years so I am not up to date on their -20% policy but I stopped using Bangkok Hospitals as they are more expensive than others. I self insure then claim from April for in-patient work. April's back room systems are pretty krap though. 2 - 3 months for a reply to emails. Unfortunately, I am too old to change insurers now.

Ride stability with a pillion passenger on a scooter v m/c.
I am always riding between check ins/outs with my business partner on the back. No problem with stability at high or low speeds until..... she sees a bluddy snake or 'baby crocodile' (monitor lizard). Then - Screams in my right ear. Lifts up her arms in horror (lifting up my shirt as well). Suddenly jerks her legs up meaning that her knees knock my elbows. Mr Wobbly for a few seconds. Stability - probably 2/10

DUI Victims Urge Prime Minister for Road Safety Reform
Never a mention of 'driving under the influence of drugs' here in LOS. I suspect that they do not test for this. In the UK, this offence is far more common than DUI in many areas. Cannabis and cocaine being the two most popular substances.

Thailand banks have the worst interest rates
You are not kidding either. I went to put some money into long term savings accounts a while back and I just did not understand the logic. In one account, up to 100,000 baht was 1.1%. 100,000 to 2,000,000 was .5%. Greater than 50,000,000 - .25% and the more you put in, the lower the %age. Another account, the longer you left the money in, the lower the %age. What is the point?

Is TM30 Required if you have a Yellow House Book?
Nothing is 100% when it comes to immigration. It probably depends on the colour of your shirt. I have been told that I must fill in a TM 30 after International and inter-provincial travel. (We also register tourists with immigration after we have checked them in.)
-
Another TM30 question
It depends on your local immigration office. The last TM 30 address should be the same as the address for your visa. People here on Samui have had extensions refused because their TM 30 address was not up to date. Some have been 'invited' to go to the immigration office because the TM 30 was either absent or not current. Whenever I return from another province, I always update my TM 30. It is a small effort and it saves hassles. That way, everything matches. TM 30, TM 90, Visa, work permit etc.

Buying a house where land is in Thai name but chanote says foreigner owns the house?
Foreigners can own houses. I owned mine until I sold it. The company owned the land. A separate contract was needed. Then process to own it was long and tedious including a couple of visits to the Thai Foreign office in Bangkok. Mind you, laws change. Talk a reputable lawyer.
