  1. Ah yes. An old article from 2002 resurrected by the famous Ian Yarwood so that he can keep his name in the press.
  2. If you would like to meet the British Ambassador to Thailand and the British Consul for Samui Then please apply for a ticket at the link below. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/reception-for-british-nationals-living-in-koh-samui-tickets-575454328387 The Blind Tiger Bar is in Bangrak.
  3. There is such a place. It is called the immigration office. Overstays can 'hand themselves in' at any time, at any immigration office, for just a fine - within time limits. But then, they must leave Thailand. It is only when the IO's 'catch them' that they are arrested. However, none of those caught that are mentioned here, were making any attempt to be honest or to leave the country.
  4. Definitely more bikes available now. Prices might be a bit higher than before but they are levelling off.
  5. Only the illegal cannabis makes people forgetful. ????
  6. Just an observation from someone who lives on Samui. Immigration are currently carrying out random checks on businesses (where foreigners work), private lets and small hotels/hostels. There are various Samui Immigration/police Facebook pages with the details but the ones that I know of today are a hostel where the owner was given 24 hours to get up to date with TM 30's. (He has done none.) A private business (shop) where the work permits were checked but there were no TM 30's recorded and the immigration people followed up with the landlord and gave him 24 hours to sort his shxtt out.
  7. And for good clean fun..... https://www.ttrweekly.com/site/2023/02/5th-samui-volleyball-set-for-march/
  8. Do the TM 30 now. It will depend on the immigration officer if they want to question anything. Here, as long as there is a TM 30, immigration do not care - you are in the system
  9. Honest politicians get thrown off.
  10. Not at the Bank of Ayudhya, and I suspect at some other banks as well. I wanted to put some money into different accounts because of the '1 million baht only' protection. I have my normal debit card savings account and was limited to two long term fixed/variable term accounts. The bit that I could not get my head around, was that I could have different amounts in a single long term account - BUT still only protection up to 1 million on total. The other illogical bit was the interest rate for the different fixed long term accounts. .95 % for 1 year. .65 % for two years. .35% for three years.......... I showed this to friends with more financial acumen than me and they all said - that does not compute.
  11. To the OP. Try this thread, https://aseannow.com/topic/1135250-drivers-license-guide-koh-samui/
  12. I am not sure why some posters think that the number of days overstay is important. At the end of the day, that is the law. Same in every country that has visitors on visas. A bit like DUI? It does not matter how drunk you are, it is the fact that you are drunk and over a legal limit.
  13. No, they go round knocking on doors and ask to see the passports and TM 30 reports. The area is mainly holiday villa rentals with a smattering of private houses. Almost 100% foreigners. Easy pickings for Immigration police.
  14. And any registered money lender will have to report the transaction to the relevant authorities.
  15. Immigration trawl the area where I live regularly looking for illegals and overstays. Luckily, it is regularly and not frequently. That is why we have to keep the TM 30 reporting up to date.
  16. Duh - wrong. This from a post on 18th February. That flight had water spray back then as well. I guess that TAT did not realise that they had been landing here for a while.
  17. RIP young man. Unusual, most drownings are when the water is rough and there are rips on Chaweng beach. Water looks pretty calm at the moment. Speedboats going to KPN all night long to the FMP.
  18. Try this site? https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Manky
  19. For any pain in the chest please go and see a doctor. My wife has a slight pain, went to bed and never woke up. She was only 55 and exercised regularly.
  20. This whole pot debacle just proves Anutin's lack of good judgement. And he wants to be PM? Mind boggling.
  21. So the PM has very low standards.
  22. There is no bridge at the moment and there is no definite plan to build one. There is a request for the bidding process to start. That is all. Then again, maybe no one wants to bid or maybe it will fail the environmental impact assessment. Personally, I do not expect to see a bridge to Samui in my lifetime. The estimated completion date of the electrical project is 2029 and that is only if they start the project now. Not some time in the future. Last New year's Eve, there was a major power outage in the north east of the island, caused by heavy demand. Transformers were exploding one after another all along the roads. Quite a few 5* hotels lost a lot of money over that outage. Their comments to the government departments responsible are probably not printable. Part of the local infrastructure in that area has already been upgraded to cater for additional power. Samui needs more electricity (and water) now.
  23. The owner of the van is Russian and he lent it to his Ukrainian friend. ???? Lots of Russians and Ukrainians are friends and some are even in the same family. It's just a location problem. That is why many do not want to kill each other.
  24. If that is a photo of actual canal, they do not stand a chance on finding the poor mite. ????
