Be careful what you wish for here in Thailand. All of that construction and even more disruption for the traffic.

If you believe that education is free then you live in a different world to mine. There are lots of 'extra' charges. The money for school meals and uniforms from the government 'disappears'. No uniform - no education. Lots of articles on scammed school dinners. In class, if the teacher is not given an 'incentive' then the child is at the back of the class and no homework. They do not pass exams. Here the police do' helmet checks and seatbelt checks' before the start of term so that they can pay for these things. As I said in my original post - away from the cities.......

Any aid given to Burma will be given to the military junta. There they can buy arms medical provisions and food for their soldiers.

I agree with the heading. It is very sad though that so many Thais cannot read and write. This is thanks to the poor education system once Thais are outside of the major cities. Then there are the folk who cannot afford the schooling.

And is the poor lady eligible for the vote-buying 10,000 baht. Does she have a smart phone, internet access?

Same here. The difference is that if one runs out right in front of you and you crash your bike, suddenly no one owns it. "Never seen that one before!" Ditto Soi dogs.

Neat little cars. Had a Caribbean for 15 years, bought it second hand from Budget. Very little maintenance needed and went everywhere on the island in it. Paid 120k for it and sold it for 60k Also had the saloon version for wifey - forgot the name. Finally gave up cars and stayed with the bike - quicker in the crazy traffic.

So many things wrong with this sad event. RIP to the lad and I hope that the other victims recover OK - including the driver of the car. She will probably remember this accident for the rest of her life.

People in SE Asia were wearing masks long before Covid and will be wearing them a long time after.

Most Thais do not eat beef. Reminds them of the pet buffalo at home - akin to us eating dogs. Also, pork and chicken are much cheaper. None of the Thais that I know here on the island eat beef, and it is only in latter years that the Thai supermarkets have started selling it. 20+ years ago, we could not find beef anywhere on the island. I would buy it when I did a major shop up in Bangkok.

Thailand people are the most scammed in the region (according to an article here a while ago). The vast majority of scams are on people that use mobile banking apps. Still no apps on my phone. (Battery lasts a week before it needs charging - another bonus. )

And there was me thinking that the high tourist traffic came from Europe, China, Russia and India. Duh.

In my 70s and never been on a cruise. Looking at that photo, I remember why. I cannot think of anything worse than being stuck on that monstrosity for days on end.

In Thailand - only money rules. Stuff morals, democracy and humanity.

My lenses were replaced one day apart.

I had lens replacement in both eyes last year. I was told not to swim for a couple of months and make sure no water in the eyes whilst showering or washing for two weeks. (Wear swimming goggles in the shower.) That was it. Usual regime of loads of eye drops during the day and because I had the tri-focal lenses fitted, I wore anti glare glasses for about a month.

I have two of the deadly chronic diseases. The 'you will die if you get Covid' ones. Had the three latest vaccines during the plague. Also had Covid twice (felt crappie for 3-4 days). Unfortunately, I am still here.

Sorry Thailand, but Egypt has no interest in the war between Israel and Palestinian Hamas stopping. Egypt hate people from both sides. That is why they do not allow Palestinian refugees. If the remaining hostages were to be released, and there were no more hostages in Gaza, Israel would stop the attacks. Egypt (and other Arab countries) do not want it to stop.
