A typical week on Thailand's roads
Very true. I believe that lack of awareness and not 'reading the road' are the cause of many accidents here. I was told not to look at the vehicle in front, but to look at the ones in front of that one. Then you can anticipate (to a point) what everyone is doing. On the small roads here, I hate being behind the minivans with blacked out windows - almost impossible to see what is in front of them.

Is this still valid? I have a UK passport and will be visiting Vietnam for 5 days. Flying direct to Da Nang from Bangkok.

Advisor Urges Public Not to Criticise PM Paetongtarn for using iPad
What on earth is the complaint here? That the PM is using a prompt or that she is using an iPad. I realise that using an iPad shows poor taste, but it is a personal preference. All world leaders use prompts.

Guest House Fire Off Pattaya Beach Road
First time I have ever heard that phrase. Thanks to DuckDuckGo for the answer. Step 3. Smoke Logging If a building isn’t properly ventilated, it could become smoke logged in several minutes. While this smoke will primarily consist of entrained air, it’s also possible for a substantial amount of asphyxiates and toxic substances to be present in the smoke as well. In this scenario, the smoke could disorientate an individual within seconds. This same individual could die in a matter of minutes.

Deputy House Speaker Pichet Approves MP's Sick Leave Amid Tak Bai Case Concerns
The statute of limitations is up on 25th October this year. What a coincidence. They only do that to politicians that they want to punish.

Parents Demand 1.21M Baht Compensation for Children They Didn’t Raise
That may be true in some cases, but it is not cultural. Necessity plays a large part - especially in rural areas. Parents cannot find work near the family home so move away to work elsewhere. But, they do send money home when they can. Samui is full of mainland folk sending money back to their families. This is repeated all over Thailand.

Parents Demand 1.21M Baht Compensation for Children They Didn’t Raise
Whether we like it or not, the parents are the legal guardians and as such, should have the cash. If the child, living with gran, should kill someone, who would be blames. I suggest that it would be the absent parents. The tricky bit is when the parents are separated. The whole thing is a difficult conundrum.

Drunk Crashes Into Motorcycle, Killing Two 14-Year-Old Girls in Tragic Wrong-Way Collision
Back in the day in the UK, a lot of effort went into teaching kids and adults the basics of road safety. At schools and by using public service adverts on TV. If only for the basics - they were drummed into us time and time again. Stop, look and listen before you cross. Look right, look left and look right again. Keep on looking as you walk across the road. Rules at zebra and pelican crossings. Wear something light (white) at night etc etc The public service adverts even advised about parking, dipped headlights and so on. But of course, we cannot teach the Thai government anything. Slightly off topic -

Boeing Successfully Completes First Flight of Thailand’s First AH-6 Little Bird Helicopter
They are going to need a lot of these little things if they want to defend their borders. The little bird range range is about 450 kilometers. As for Malaysia.......

Drunk Crashes Into Motorcycle, Killing Two 14-Year-Old Girls in Tragic Wrong-Way Collision
Why the victim blaming? Maybe the parents did not know? The fault here is 100% the drunk driver.

- Taxi Fire on Rama 9 Road Leaves Five Injured, Including a Child
My first thought when I saw the photo of the taxi was 'hxxy sxxt'! How can anyone have survived that? Hope that they all recover OK.- British National Killed in Sattahip Motorcycle Accident
Nearly 60 years of riding bikes and still going strong. Here on Samui, they are the preferred transport. Mind you, it is the most dangerous place in the world (per capita). Parking a car in a couple of the villages here is almost impossible and there are always traffic jams. I also rent bikes when I travel in Thailand and other SE Asian countries. BUT - I could do without the age related stuff. Starting to suffer these days. - Taxi Fire on Rama 9 Road Leaves Five Injured, Including a Child
