PM, even if the lockdown ends 1st May what jobs does he think the so called freelancers, self-employed workers and small traders are going back to ?

They ordered them out of business and shut without any support, even if some manage to open where exactly are the customers going to come from - tourism is dead for at least 12 months if not longer

All his problems are just starting 1st May - what are all these people going to live on for the next 12+ months, if he thinks cancellation of lockdowns is going to make it all go away he really is deluded

These tiny 5k payments per month will need to continue well beyond 3 months

Oh, come on, be fair! It must be heart breaking to have to hand out all that money, that he and his cronies can't get their grubby mitts on.

Even if they gave me money, I would never become the owner of a condo in Pattaya or Bangkok or in a city that lives largely on tourism.
When we see how they "work" we know that we will buy sh*t that will fall apart very quickly.
Not to mention the balconies glued to the walls which are unable to support three pots of flowers.

Anyway, buying real estate in Thailand is playing the game of wholesalers of various drugs.
Most of these constructions are financed by dirty money.

No, I can't believe that. Surely it was all laundered first????

No big deal! Mistakes happens. This is not a normal situation, and many of the persons planning this, is doing this for the first time and hopefully once in their life time. I am sure they will fix it and make it work. Everybody can make mistakes.

"Everybody can make mistakes". Quite true, but the person who never made a mistake, never made anything, and therein lies the problem.

Climate Change is NOT "man made". It is a naturally occurring cycle that has been going on ever since this planet was formed. Otherwise Earth would still be locked in a "snowball" earth phase where 99.99% of life of the planet is extinct.
These cycles last from 10s of thousands of years to 10s of millions of years, depending on a number of factors, the vast majority of which have absolutely nothing to do with mankind.

Mankind's actions have contributed to a speeding up of the current warming cycle that started at the end of the last Ice Age. Various climate models have suggested that this warming phase (or "inter-glaciation phase" as in a period between freezing cycles) would end in 1,500 years or so and the Earth would enter another (minor) Ice Age. These warming and cooling cycles happen all the time.
However, depending on the Earth's orbit around the sun during a given period, and it's axial tilt, those warming cooling periods could be extended by thousands of years (or even millions).
Some experts think that mankind's action may actually be delaying the onset of the next freezing period by 1,500-5,000 years.

Consider that the Cyrogenian Ice Age lasted from 720 to 635 million years ago. That means it lasted 85 MILLION years ! The planet was frozen completely down to the equators with only some areas around hydro-thermic vents deep in the ocean still being warm (and supporting microbacterial life).

That was just 1 of the 7 major Ice Ages the planet has gone through, just in the last 720 million years. (Each Ice Age contains numerous warming and cooling spells as well, or "glaciation" and "inter-glaciation" phases.)

As well, the Earth has also had periods where it has been completely ice free !! Those periods are referred to as the "Greenhouse Earth" periods and guess what happens during those periods ?
    Life FLOURISHES !
When the Cyrogenian Ice Age ended, it was followed by the Ediacaran Period which saw an "explosion" of life form on the planet, including the first hard-shelled life forms. The Ediacaran period is estimated to have lasted around 94 million years.

The planet is considered to be in a "Greenhouse" phase when all the ice in Antarctica and Greenland has melted.

This will really irritate some people. Scientists (real ones, not ones named Greta) estimate that the CO2 levels in the atmosphere during the Ediacaran Period were 16 times higher than in the pre-Industrial period and global temperatures were around 3 degrees (Celsius) higher than current temperatures.

Why is that ? I thought you'd never ask ! This will also irk Greta and company.

Real scientists have determined that EVERY major Ice Age was triggered by the SAME reason - LACK of CO2 in the atmosphere !

Here's what happens. CO2 is released into the atmosphere through volcanic and tectonic plate activity (we are talking about long before man was ever a gleam in an amoeba's eye).
CO2 builds up in the atmosphere and over the course of millions of years it helps trap heat and start warming the planet.

The ice/snow melts and - voila' ! Life flourishes ! Including life such as plants and trees and phytoplankton, all of which absorb CO2 and release oxygen as a byproduct !

The more CO2 in the atmosphere, the larger the plants and trees grow and the more phytoplankton there is in the seas. However, all good things must come to an end and that has been the case since long before Greta decided she was really angry and that we'd "stolen" her childhood.

Eventually, all those CO2 absorbing organisms outstrip the amount of CO2 being released into the atmosphere and the pendulum starts to swing the other way and the planet starts to cool down again. This process doesn't happen overnight of course (a fact more than a few seem to forget, or outright ignore).
It takes 10s of thousands of years before the effects are noticeable, but then things devolve in a hurry.

You seem when the Ice starts to reform the first thing that happens is more of the suns rays are reflected back into space, which actually speeds up the cooling process ! Eventually the oceans start to freeze over (speeding up the process), glaciers form (speeding up the process) and snow blankets the planet (speeding up the process). Life on the planet DIES.

And stays that way until eventually, enough CO2 builds up in the atmosphere (again) to allow the planet to start warming up (again).

And that has been happening ever - since - the - planet - was - formed.

And that is what WILL keep happening long after mankind has gone extinct ! In fact, if every human on the planet died today and every fossil-fuel burning piece of machinery stopped and every methane farting cow died -
Climate Change would STILL happen !

And it will keep happening until the sun goes super nova (or we wipe ourselves out by accidentally blowing up the planet).

A very interesting and well written piece of information. If you have no objections, I would like to keep a copy?

As I said, if it was this good then every British expat on Thaivisa and elsewhere would be shouting it from the rooftops.  They're not.

Because Revolut set the exchange rate and for Thailand it is 1% below the interbank rate (2% at weekends) which can easily be beaten.

Last I'll say on this subject.

You believe what you want, I know what I know.

The £30 you mentioned before as being 1% of £3,000.  I've quoted it here for you as it appears to have slipped your mind.

If you've got one of the few Thai accounts not charging a fee to receive from overseas then well done as most charge a percentage with a minimum of 200 baht, capped at 500 baht.  Despite that (if it's correct) using Revolut is not the most efficient way to pay for things in Thailand, and if transferring GBP to Krungthai Bank, if it was as good as you say it would be getting promoted endlessly by expats or similar everywhere.  When Revolut started it was well recommended but it has slipped considerably since then.

Your petty little dig indicates you obviously have no interest in information given hoping to improve your financial position so best you carry on in your ignorance.

My ignorance is in much better shape than your nonsense. How many times do you have to be told. Revolut do NOT make any charges for transferring money from the card to my Thai bank. Also, if done at the right time, it takes about 4 to 6 hours max once the transaction is activated, for the money to arrive in said Thai bank. Also, as stated, KrungThai do NOT charge for receiving the transferred cash, neither do Bangkok Bank. I use both.

As for using Revolut for purchases in Thailand, I pay the price as stated on the invoice when presented. How can that be inefficient, as the price paid is Thai baht?.

For your further information, a UK address and phone number is required to obtain a Revolut card. not easy for some.

Revolut is also now available in the US since two weeks ago. I would assume the same requirements would apply to acquire one.

You are asking the Thai Bank to do the currency conversion, not Revolut.  This will give a similar rate to  Revolut (some banks slightly more (including Krungthai) some slightly less if I look just now).

The £30.00 comes in because you do lose that compared to the Interbank rate, but of course Joe Public never gets that.  Compared to Revolut, Transferwise would save you £11.47 on that transaction, and if you use a fees free UK card to get cash without the ATM fee, or use at POS, you'd save even more again.

Edit:  There's also the Thai bank receiving fee of minimum 200 baht to add.

WHAT £30.00? I just stated there are NO fees. Get that? NO fees. And, I can tell you KrungThai do NOT charge 200 Baht receiving fee. I think you've been in the treetop too long.

That doesn't make sense. If you go into Big C for example you'd hand your card over, you sign for it or enter pin? or something else? last time i used a card in there i had to sign for it, no pin required.

As for Revolut THB exchange rate say at the weekend, how do they calculate it?

If I use a contactless card, I don't sigh anything, or enter a PIN. Its a contactless transaction. As for Revolute THB exchange rate at the weekend, it would be the same as any other VISA card transaction. Revolut is a VISA CASH card

Revolut load all Thai baht transactions by 1% (2% at weekends) and that's why it's not been a recommended card for Thialand for some time.  It also has a low cash withdrawal limit which restricts use for some.

    https://www.revolut.com/help/getting-started/exchanging-currencies/what-foreign-exchange-rate-will-i-get

I have no intention of causing a dispute, but why when I transfer £3000.00 from my Revolut card to my Thai bank, the Thai bank quotes the amount received as £3000.00 and then the exchange rate. Admittedly the exchange rate is not top notch but I don't lose £30.00 on the transaction. If I did, it would be cheaper to use the UK bank to transfer.

Not contactless so defeats the object. Also the Revolut rates especially at the weekend are not as good as you think, certainly not as good as Halifax Clarity card or Starling Bank

If the Revolut card is not contactless, a lot of my transactions have gone unpaid, so are Revolut fiddling the book?? I don't think so.

Do you know that the charges are, if any, assuming there are charges, e.g. nothings for free

I accept nothing is for free but, The Revolut card I use does not make any charges. Also the exchange rate is at the point of sale. However, it is a cash card, which means I load it up as needed from my bank A/C. Revolut do not give interest, so they make money using my cash while I am in credit. What I like most about this card is the overseas transfers. If I load up the card from my UK bank at early AM UK time, it can be transferred to my Thai bank A/C by Mid Day Thai time the same day. NO CHARGES !!

I don't know if you can access these cards,I have both,Revolut and Monzo zero overseas charges and great exchange rates.

I also use Revolut with no charges and no overseas charges. The exchange rates are very good also. Revo;ut is now available in the US, but I believe it requires a US address and phone number

I am very much inclined to agree. The question being, 'Is it a con job'? So I will ask all who subscribe here to state, Do you personally, 100% know, anyone who has died from this virus? Might sound a silly question, but of all my friends, of which there are many and my family both here and abroad, none have been able to point to one single case, of either suffering or death directly attributed to this virus.

The new virus is another typical coronavirus. The spreading rate is much slower in tropical countries. Otherwise, Thailand would have been much worse than northern Italy long ago with much more Chinese tourists per year.

Thais have taken this also quite seriously. Wearing mask has become almost mandatory in shopping malls and other shops. Many markets have been closed.

Most of the Thais I have seen wearing a mask, think its for keeping the chin warm.
