how/why did that photo get to the media so quickly?

you will ride to the centre without a licence, wait, fill out paperwork, wait, do a reaction test, wait, watch a video, wait, do a multi-choice computer test, fail for answering too many questions correctly, stand with the crowd about the single test machine with everyone else to get all the right (incorrect) answers for the theory test before hand, wait, do the theory test again, wait, do the practical where they say "same Thailand, same Thailand" so follow the group and do the course behind the locals and do what they do, wait, pay the fees, wait, smile for the camera... and you'll get your licence.
then you'll ride the wrong way up the 1-way driveway to get out of the place.
take a book to read whilst you wait.

I find it curious that the tourist visa exemption by name would indicate that it isn't a visa, and the tourist visa exception rule doesn't call it a visa, yet if you look up the definition of a visa that is exactly what it is.
Being a bit bored, I actually did look it up. Here's how my favrite online dictionary defines it:
"Visa: an endorsement made by an authorized representative of one country upon a passport issued by another, permitting the passport holder entry into or transit through the country making the endorsement. No endorsements are made to your passport or anywhere else whene you are granted a visa-exempt entry - you are simply just let in despite the lack of said endorsements. All you get is a permitted to stay stamp - which certainly isn't a visa neither. Thus it is perfectly correct to call the phenomon a visa-exempt entry.
Back to topic.
"all you get is a permitted to stay stamp" by an authorised representative upon a passport AKA... I give up already.

You won't! You'll get a 15 or 30 day visa EXEMPTION!! For a visa you'll need to visit a Thai Embassy. It's amazing how facts get mixedEven with a simple article like this the Phuket News cannot get it's facts right !! If you do a border crossing by car, bus, bike or whatever (elephant) you'll get a 15 day visa. ONLY by air do you get 30 days.
depending on your home country. there is a class of "visa on arrival" that doesn't require a visit to an embassy.

I always perceive this type of grandstanding by a politician is actually part of the bigger plan.Whatever Chalerm endless faults are, he clearly knows Thai politics very well.
Given the amazing amount of disrespect he has shown for Yingluck in the past few days, he is either:
1. The moron of the century, clearly biting the hands that feeds him.
2. Knows that Yingluck will be replaced soon, so may as well have a bit of fun
after his stunning demotion..
What is that plan? To get She Who Must Be Obeyed lined up with the reins of power ?
highly speculative, but I think you are right about Yingluck being replaced, but I don't think it is about Chalerm having a bit of fun. I think Chalerm is just using his mouth as he is told.

Now if someone in Chiang Mai had Matsos ginger beer...

Guys.. it's beer. It's going to be somewhere between 60-180 baht a bottle for most of them.
If you want to spend less, stick with buying a box at Makro. If you want to spend more, consider wine.
You're probably right, but whether one drinks beer or wine is irrelevant.
It wouldn't be detrimental to them, if they posted their brands and prices would it?
In some instances, and I believe in this instance it is good marketing not to post prices.
Why do you say in this instance?
some retailers post prices, others don't. In this instance i.e. "The Bottle Shop" hasn't posted prices online, I think that is good marketing. a different product aimed at a different market it may be better marketing to post prices online.

I assumed (bad word I know) I had dengue because so many others were getting it and once the symptoms began I spent several hours on the internet researching dengue fever which fit my situation.
I find it curious to know where you did your internet research, as you stated your symptoms were "Minor aches and headaches"
dengue is also called "breakbone fever" because of the symptoms.

I've not heard of any first class motorcycle insurance that doesn't require the driver to hold a valid licence.
AA has been helpful with my insurance, health and 1st class motorcycle.
Does AA have an office or an agent in Chiang Mai ?
Doesn't insurance come with the rental also if buying a new one is it not taken care of by the dealer?
Health travel Insurance you can get at home In the states try AAA or any insurance broker.
According to Honda garage apparently the insurance you get from the dealer only covers the minimum legal requirement and does not include theft for example.

Been here for over 6 years in CM and been stopped only for no helmet and not EVER for a licence check (or anything else).
Also I doubt the fine is over 400b for no licence, so it's never even an issue then.

I drank beer there this afternoon. I enjoyed it.
a stupid name for a bar though... but I'm over that.

muang maehongson is a small niche town with a lake, a market, a couple of temples, a couple of small but nice hotels.
amphoe maehongson is quite large with many caves, waterfalls and other towns... incuding Pai which is probably a bigger town than muang maehongson.
all well exploited by the NGOs, bong smoking hippies and the movie "Air America". beautifully scenic never the less.

stupid me. a look at google street view and it was always rice in there.
dated 2011.

I noticed today one of the buildings on Wua Lai road at the intersection with Chang Lor Road (south side of the moat) was being filled with sacks of rice today.
Its the first one I noticed, is this the only one in town?

if you have the energy, go see a doctor (most likely and i hope they'll just tell you to rest up)Hi to all
I just want to inform you that I just got it yesterday and I leave near holiday inn. Not sure I got it here but I suspect it.
I hope I will be fine soon!
Paracetomol helps with the fever, my lovely lady padded me down with wet flannels from the fridge. Get comfortable (yeah I know) in front of the TV for a few days.
Any signs of bleeding then get to emergency ASAP.
By the sounds of it, I was lucky. After 1 week I was out and about (through frustration at being housebound) and 2 was back at work. It was about 3 weeks I was feeling 100% again.
