  1. I totally disagree. This seems to be the first sensible approach to a "Same Sex Marriage" bill. I believe that same sex marriages can marry if they wish but male homosexuals should NOT be allowed to adopt children. Already there is a case of two gay men marrying & then adopting 6 or 8 boy children for their own gratification. They are in front of the courts for child abuse!

Because all gay men are kiddy-fiddlers?

  2. Actually I'm sure gay & lesbian couples would probably settle for equal rights of inheritance, adoption, tax benefits, etc enjoyed by married couples - without the 'married' tag. It's an OK first step and better than nothing. Sent from my GT-S5360B using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

    Why should they?

Why shouldn't gays have those rights? Your comment is totally ignorant and stupid. Do those rights take something away from you?

This is a classic case of inverted fascism. This is the kind of person who actually believes it's wrong to express views other than his own.

What he fails to realise is that there are some people who find the idea of same sex marriage something that turns their stomachs, and adopting children even more so. It's not being bigoted, it's just a natural reaction that is surpressed by the PC media and Western thought police.

It's good to see the Thai government actually making sense for a change.

yep, if it turns your stomach, then it's not for you. just like the smell of nam pla for me, it literally makes me retch. so i don't eat it.

  3. I keep wondering why people are so selfish. You wanna marry or sleep with same sex partner but adopt kids fathered by other people why not make your own kids.

you'll be happy to know then, from the OP:

The exclusion of rights in regards to children - even biological ones from a previous marriage - deprives LGBTIs of opportunities to found a family

  4. you can get them all with a 30 day tourist visa, but what you need is proof of residency.

a letter of residency from immigration is what i had, but reading other threads they are not as easy to get anymore (do to the ongoing under-recourcing of the immigration office)

to get the letter, you basically need to present some proof that you live here, a rental agreement or a letter from the landlord where you live.

you will need 1 letter for the bike, and one for the license, they don't accept copies.

otherwise, use the search function, there a bazillion threads on how to transfer green-books and get a motorbike license.

  5. nope. seems like a strange request though, so I hope you don't mind me asking for what purpose you need to find a bunch of school-boys dressed as pandas. Are you looking for these boys in particular, or would any bunch of boys do?

  6. at the time, was parking limited? It would seem it was tight even to park a motorbike if there was one front and back so close to your car. Maybe you should have parked it where there was more room.

  7. I don't doubt the OP although the location I find a bit strange. It is normal practise for the kareoke bars along Chang Klan road to scam first time visitors. The scam includes the tuk tuk drivers and the local police who are all in on the scam. The tourist comes in and orders one drink, but is immediately surrounded by women who order everything under the sun and put it on the poor guy's tab. Then when he tries to leave he is presented with a bill of 20,000 baht. If he refuses to pay he is surrounded by thugs and the local police who are in on the scam. It's happened many times. I'm just surprised it happened on the moat road near Thai Pei gate. I've only had good experiences at the Blue Sky, Maddog, Johns and a bar that is open to the lane as well as the moat road. It's near Loi Kroh road. But, I seldom have more than one beer and then leave. I seldom order food.

though you post some good observations about our town, on this instance you are full of shit.

I was talking to a young bloke tonight about the *scam* of the karaoke bars along Chang Klan tonight. he got done.

they are not a scam, they are though a huge trap for new players for those who dont understand the pricing structure. they are very open about how much what costs if you ask beforehand. easy to get sucked in with all the pretty ladies out the front, they'll cost you about 400baht each for 1 hour just to be in the room.

the pricing actually works out not too bad if you are in a group looking for a private function, though the cheap charlies won't get their 3 big changs happy hour there.

you cannot go into those joints alone and drink a beer and leave just paying for the beer. no scam, just ignorance.

I'll stand by what I originally wrote. I know the difference between a scam and a legitimate business. I have no personal experiences in those bars because I am female. However, I have spoken to 3 reliable sources. They were different men who had all been scammed at different times by the kareoke bars on Chiang Klan road. And, these guys were not the common drunkards who were too intoxicated to know where they were being taken. They were just greenhorns relying on a tuk tuk drivers advice.

It would seem then in this instance the difference between a scam and a legitimate business is the (in)ability of the customer to ask "how much" before agreeing to purchase.

  9. I have no doubts that this happened.

My husband got rolled a couple of weeks ago, only 1,000 baht, but he was rolled and he knows it and will look out for it again. It's hard to argue about a bill when you've had a bit too much to drink because you don't really remember exactly what you've had or put on your tab for other people.

    .

If you drink so much that you don't know what you ordered or for whom (personally, I think that's not a real bright idea) then you have deliberately or not decided that you will leave it up to the bar staff to keep track of it. Is that wise? Then to argue about the bill even though you have already drunk too much to know for sure what your bill should be (but somehow know it's over by 1,000 baht)...yes, that would be hard.

I like to go out and drink regularly, but if i start to lose track of what i've drunk (and i do try and keep track), its probably past time to go home.

with the number of bars about town, i try and keep a 1 bar - 1 beer policy... to take a second drink there must be a good reason, i guess that dodges the tab issue by default.

If the trend is for bars to rip of customers (much like the jet-ski scam) then this is worrying. The music scammers have gone, i hope this isnt the new scam.

which cop shop did the OP get taken to?

  10. 9*70=630 not 730 baht

are you sure they weren't 75 baht each? = 675baht

did you break something that they charged you 5000 baht for? spill some beer on the pool table or rip the cloth?

  11. I met a Finnish guy last year, who went to a place recommended by a Tuk-Tuk driver, and had a 20,000 THB bill.

probably one of those karaoke joints down chang klan. nothing is free in those joints, easy to get burnt if you don't understand the pricing structure, but if you ask straight up before entering what things cost they will tell you. no scam, just ignorant customers.
