  1. Suthep - It's time to pack up, go home and do your Chrstmas shopping

Why? He achieved a lot in 3 weeks time so why should he pack?

    Yu'p he's achieved a lot in 3 weeks, NOT...

I don't like the guy's style of politics and grand standing.

I do although like the having a laugh at his claim of 1,000,000 protesters

and his vow to end the Thaksin regime,

In my opinion, he has achieved destroying any microscopic amount of credibility he may have had.

You might have your opinion about him as a person but he achieved a lot the last 3 weeks. Have you heard about that amnesty bill thing by any chance?

  2. And they wonder why the anti-govt protest continued after the Senate threw out their whitewash bill? With statements like this, it's clear they'll try and resurrect it at some point, no matter what the public thinks.

It really does look ridiculous when CNN and BBC report that Peua Thai are accepting the court's verdict whilst the Interior Minister and Labour Minister, two of the party's biggest names, say they "can't accept it" and the "low intellect puppet" (according to Chai-anan Samudavanija) Prime Minister only answers "ka" when asked about her next step.

This post and many others shows muddled thinking or simple ignorance about the principles involved in the role of the judiciary vis a vis parliament. The attached article by Michael Howard, scarcely a fire breathing radical, sets out the key issues. It of course relates to the UK where judges, unlike Thailand, are not tainted by political pressure.Several justices on the Constitututional Court for example were intimately involved in the drasfting of the constitution propagated by the military junta

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/personal-view/3618954/Judges-must-bow-to-the-will-of-Parliament.html.

The UK has vote buying too? Which position does the UK hold on the corruption index vs Thailand. Sooooooo easy what you are doing.

It's really a stupid comparison and really off topic to Thailand, indeed it's more of an insult to the person that you are responding to. However, what you are saying Nicky is that if it's done in England, it ok to do here?

    No

  4. Is not funny hope that Russian tourists disappear from Thailand. This kind of posts show clearly the low quality kind of posters, au contraire thinking to be superior of another country people.

I don't think that superiority has anything to do with the fact that many posters don't mind if the Russians stay away from Thailand. I think that most of us only know the Russians we see in Pattaya and Phuket. And many Russians who are having a fairly normal life in Thailand (working or studying) are telling me that they are a little ashamed of them too.

If it would have been: Chinese/Arab/Australian/German/British etc etc tourism group threatens Thailand boycott, I believe the replies here on TV would have been similar.

  5. Did the men in black also ordered mass murder on Bangkok's streets mister Abhisit? Did they ask Suthep to order soldiers to kill people on sacred temple grounds, or kill off demonstration leaders and journalists by asking snipers to shoot them in the head?

A few decades in jail would be good for everyone.

Wow, you have the facts straight, don't you? So, you have exclusive knowledge about Suthep ordering soldiers to kill people on sacred temple grounds, or kill off demonstration leaders and journalists by asking snipers to shoot them in the head?

And you probably also have exclusive information saying that Abhisith and Suthep actually ordered those on the Red Shirts' sites to fire grenades, take hostages, disarm policemen and take their weapons, because they knew that would give them the reason to order the killing of protesters. Thanks for enlightening us.

Mark & Suthep never odder the soldiers to kill anyone.

They just authorize the use of REAL BULLETS.

You think a cop here in Thailand has rubber bullets in his gun?

  6. Only 5,000 Red shirts left?

The Yellow now have 50,000 at least.

    I better change side now.

Missy, pls dye all my red shirts yellow NOW.

In fact the Yellow Shirts are a spent force and hardly to be seen. The great majority of the people demonstrating against the Peua Thai government in Bangkok and many of the provinces are NOT Yellow Shirts, they are normal, decent, democratic (small "D") people who are completely fed up with being cheated, lied to and ripped off by the Thaksin family.

No no, you don't get it. All anti government protestors are yellow shirts who are paid and controlled by their leaders.

  7. Erm... They called it off because of the piss poor turnout, nothing more and nothing less.

They were reduced to a couple of hundred supporters.

They declared to escalate the red shirt protests onto the street. There probably would have been enough to post two at every bus stop on Sukumvit.

The Dem rally SHOULD continue, I hope they expand it, I really do. This government needs to go. Nothing to do with the amnesty bill. That was the starting point, but the underlying reason for the demos is to oust the government.

Keep up the good fight my friends. The reds are all but dead.

Uhm... I guess that the reports of TV members' favorite source of information did their best to play down the turn out of the reds, while promoting Suthep's little show as much as they can.

The other English news source surprisingly reported 60.000 people already joining and many more arriving at press time the day before the verdict. Not bad at all.

I just think the reds have been acting very wise by not prolonging the rally.

Soon the Dems will have to stop too. Most people don't even listen to Suthep anymore because he does not have a clear message of what to fight for. Apart toppling elected government, of course (read today's news)(the other one).

If the Dems follow the example of the reds and go back home it will also be acting responsibly.

Actually, the other paper reported 30,000. Not surprisingly, you're exaggerating. Although, looking at most of the photos, it's difficult to imagine that there are 30,000 there.

Well... The edition of November 20th is still on the table. I did put my glasses on. I did turn on the light. I did not drink alcohol yesterday so I do not see things in double... And it is indeed written in the front page article: "60.000 at 8pm" and "at press time many more were still arriving".

I understand that you must be informed by Thaivisa's favorite news source and that your opinion has thus been altered by the biased reporting, or that you did maybe read an earlier issue of the other news source. In any case, I was also a bit surprised by what I read. I always thought that the other English news source was also very biased. So the difference in reporting between the two news sources was quite surprising. The Nation was sticking very well to its usual biased reporting by avoiding to mention any number of red protesters and showing only pictures of the very beginning of the rally, at the time the majority of the protesters did not arrive yet. But the other English newspaper mentioned quite big numbers and a picture of the full stadium (same article). So there might well have been much more than 60.000 + the ones still arriving at press time wink.png

Never believe what the biased newspapers tell you! biggrin.png

I believe what I see. I have been to the Stadium and if there are 60,000 people inside it would be COMPLETELY packed (especially with a stage on 1 side). Please share that image of a full stadium with 60,000+ from yesterday because I never believe what a biased poster tells me.

  8. My bike is ready today!

But, no time to pick it up as things are a little crazy around here. So I'll do that tomorrow. I got the final price etc today though and first class insurance. Now I am looking for alternatives.

The insurance offered by Ducati through (..... forgot.....) costs 19,500 baht per year. I thought this was OK because well it's a Ducati and it's brand new. It's theft with 80% of new price coverage, which is standard. And pays all damages as 1st class should. But, the deductible is 20,000 Baht. That seems ridiculous even for Ducati prices.

Shopping for bike insurance now if anyone has any tips. I definitely want to get 1st class so I can have peace of mind for the first year. But there's got to be a better deal out there?!

Kawasaki Versys was 15,000 / year + 5,000 deductible and the deductible was so high that you really had to have a bad accident to need the insurance. Never needed it.

Nikster this is not a bad deal you got from Ducati. I doubt you can get a better (+reliable) offer elsewhere. Let me have a look at what I am paying (+ conditions) for my Multi when I get home. Infact I know it is 20,000THB and 80%. Don't remeber the deductable part but don't forget the price of parts vs a versys or so.

  9. I don't think this is a old model sale out, i believe this is the new model strategy by Audi. As can seen the 696 and 796 models are still continued only the 1100 evo has been replaced by the 1200. I believe now the whole monster model range is produced in Thailand. Italy is focusing on Super bikes. Ducati can increase turnover in markets like Thailand and increasing profit on models sold worldwide due to cheaper assembly, labor etc... German efficiency.. Win Win.

Anyway ill book one now as a city hopper, actually i wanted to get the duke390 but i cant take their ridiculous pricing.

I think if your interested this is a very good deal & your making a good choice.

How often can you say USA Retail $10,500/ Thai Retail $14,200 ?

Because that is what 449k baht is.

So a good deal for a Ducati in Thailand shopper in any case.

    I agree about the KTM....Nuts period !

They today announced their Duke SMC R 690

for 689k baht or 788k financed!

    That is $25,000 USD insane

This is a good deal indeed. This is a real 796. IMO the 796 looks much better than the 795. This i a real Ducati! Sorry guys.....

  10. Somehow this does not strike me as sounding like a peaceful mobilization on the streets and certainly not what tourists will want to be greeted by in the fast approaching "high season". Just sounds like trouble.

Unless those tourists wander into the Rajamangala Stadium there's not much chance of them coming across red shirts as opposed to the three other groups of assorted "citizens" wandering around at will and blocking Bangkoks hallowed streets.

Best news of the day. Let's hope the reds stay put because we know what they are capable of when you unleash them... partytime2.gif.pagespeed.ce.V_K7hML3fS.p

  11. Red Shirts ready to mobilise supporters into city streets

    By English News

    13849128143474.jpg

BANGKOK, Nov 20 Red Shirt supporters will expand their rally in Bangkok, originally scheduled to end tonight, if the Constitution Courts ruling today fails to appease them.

Thida Thavornseth, chairwoman of the United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD), said the rally at Rajamangala Stadium is to monitor the courts judgement on a charter amendment concerning electoral procedures and composition of the Senate.

A bill, calling for the election of all members of the Senate, with no appointed members as at present, was passed by Parliament, prompting the opposition Democrat Party to lodge a petition with the Constitution Court claiming that Parliament's action breaches Section 68 of the charter.

Mrs Thida said the Constitution review was approved by the national legislative body and the judicial branch should not intervene and block the action.

The three pillars of democracy administrative, legislative and judicial branches should not interfere with each other, said Mrs Thida.

She said Thailand will be in chaos if the Constitution Court dissolves the ruling Pheu Thai Party and revokes the political rights of 312 MPs and senators.

We may mobilise the suporters (now at Rajamangala Stadium) instead of calling it off Wednesday night. Core leaders will hold a meeting if the courts ruling is not in our favour. However, we will not pressure, threaten or assault the judges, said Mrs Thida.

The demonstrators will listen to only three core leaders - myself, Nattawut Saikua and Jatuporn Prompan. We assure that our fight will be peaceful.

The UDD leaders went on stage to address to the demonstrators at Rajamangala Stadium last night without the usual video-linked speech by ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra. (MCOT online news)

The headlines are so misleading and always stir up a lot of unneeded panic. Mobilize is always used to describe troop movement in regards to the army. We are talking about 2000 max protestors here. So ridiculous!

Does somebody knows how many red shirts are still at the stadium at the moment.

  12. Go back to your spaceship.

If this government is toppled, watch the likes of Tarit and Karom run for the hills.

If Suthep is banged up in prison with a death sentence or life in prison hanging over him, what do you think is going to happen on the streets?

This will surely be the end of the game, and not in your favour may I add.

The pressure on the streets of Bangkok is slowly building towards explosive proportions. Most of that pressure is coming from the pro-government camp, once it finally blows, Yingluk and her PTP idiots are going to shit bricks.

Then Suthep will be released, once they are all part of history.

I understand your feelings for the one you support.

However, Suthep is seen by many as a hopeless politician committing treason, inciting rebellion and trying to topple an elected government.

I wonder what drives such a behaviour, if it is not just hate and self interest.

Hopefully I read in today's newspaper that yesterday at 8pm 60.000 red shirts had already arrived to support the government, with many more still arriving at press time.

Suthep should be charged and brought to court for everything he is doing at the moment.

Really gerry? You really support the actions of the DSI?

The DSI is basically asking a red shirt lawyer (with a red tie) to file criminal charges against Suthep AND whistle blowers so they can make it a special case and put in on top of their agenda.

If you decide to support a politician who commits acts of treason, organizes street protests and calls for the toppling of an elected government, I respect your choice. Up to you to chose what is right or wrong.

I am sure that, as an open minded person, you can also understand that other people don't share your perspective. Other people see actions aimed at countering Suthep's dirty moves as appropriate. These people prefer to support a system based on elections rather than never ending street protests and government toppling by all sorts of means.

In my opinion, anything is ok to counter the actions of Suthep. He is bringing back the chaos that was initiated by the yellows on 2006, and that is criminal. So, if he seems so keen to fight anyone who is not on his side, also up to him. But his opponent have the right to fight back. In the same dirty ways as Suthep and the Dems use.

So you are basically saying that in some cases everything is allowed to stop somebody or some group?

  13. Life sentence or capital punishment?

That is even more than what most people wished.

If it continues, Suthep will be cornered and have to turn to underground guerrilla type of protest.

    Very interesting smile.png

  14. This government tends to keep everyone in the dark about what they are doing. To wit: they pass their legislation while the people are sleeping.

I think you will find the Dems are also in favour of this bill. After all there are many of them and their families who will make good money from it. Where was your beloved opposition?

    Uhhh... here?

The loan bill came under attack by opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva that it would provide huge fiscal burdens for future generations with an estimated additional 3 trillion baht in interest over the course of 50 years, The burden of paying off this massive loan rests on the current and future taxpayers, children and their grandchildren.
