  1. How about the increasingly poor air quality in the NE near the Mekong, with the annual stubble burning exacerbated by increasing traffic, and around Nakhon Phanom, the similar increase (with awful Laos exhaust emissions) and development and expansion of Thakek opposite?
  2. Im sure u already know already, but would you be allowed to set up your equipment and operate in such a border area? I once went to the 'Ordinance Survey' equivalent map office in Bangkok to buy maps of a few areas I stay at. They would not sell me a map of Nakhon Phanom as it is a border area.
  3. Thank you. So you are saying that it is the (mid-market) exchange rate offered by my home bank that issues the card? If so, I find it difficult to believe that the Thai receiving bank does not charge a fee, probably %age wise for this. Is your info. based on personal experience please, i.e., have you checked the rates and charges for transfers that you have personally made?
  4. Yes it is not the strength that matters, it is the taste. My favourite beers in the UK are Tetleys and John Smiths, great taste at only 3.6%. Lately Im really getting into Craft beers in the UK; strong tasting with a fantastic variety of flavours and nearly all are under 5%. Ive never liked Chang except for a brief period when they reduced all the varieties to one and the strength to 5.2 or 3% and soon to 5%. I swear the strength remained more than that though, so I returned to drinking the others all at 5%. I actually like Archa because it is more bitter than all the other Thai 'lagers' (except Tiger) which are sweet tasting to me. But Archa is very inconsistent in taste, often tasting more like Chang who make it. And a bonus for me, because for good health I want a lower alcohol intake, is that it is now 4.5%. Though this gets cancelled out..lol..by the fact that their bottles are the only ones which have remained at 640ml rather than going down to 620ml. Cheers, which I also like, have deviously reduced their bottle size to 610ml. I say deviously because they've made the bottles look bigger than their competitors. Id drink Tiger, which is also relatively bitter but it is virtually unavailable in the north East. Cheers!
  5. I think so. Im sure that if not he'd had felt the rail vibrating. Also given where this is, very close to Udon railway station, Im sure they sound the loud horn on approach.
  6. I have never managed to find out from friends who who have used this method if 1) the bank makes a charge, say 3%, for the transaction and/or 2) what exchange rate they received. Is it the mastercard/visa rate or the bank's rate? The latter, I think, is different from the dynamic rip-off rate offered at ATMs. Can anyone enlighten me please, not by what rate they think they got, but by actually checking the bank, whatever f*#*ing colour, paperwork for a transfer they have made. Thanks.
  7. In actual fact none of this applies to most tourists who only see immigration at the airport on arrival and departure for their holiday. BUT, for the rest of us who sadly do have to visit immigration offices, he needs to emphasise staff being friendly, helpful, and POLITE, especially in respecting those retired here. Most senior staff in my local office talk to you like dirt! All credit to a different immigration office; Udon Thani, where I last went to obtain a re-entry permit, and just 10 mins before their closing time. I was greeted with a smile, received a 'Thank you' and even a wai on conclusion! Respect!
  8. You forget the fourth and most powerful attraction beginning with 'S'
  9. There is only one and this is what happened to him: https://www.aljazeera.com/program/101-east/2022/4/21/thailands-fearless-cop?fbclid=IwAR1CObAXg_sso_oeFkHpQhDTGoTiMPOVuSMh35TR9heqgxJ_r6FG5OLmsdo
  10. Book on skyscanner.net, domestic flights are cheaper than booking with theairlines! Dont use the Thai skyscanner though as more expensive. Also if you fly with Thai Airways/Thaismile your luggage will go straight through to Phuket. Not sure about Vietjet but probably the same. For some reason, booking a Thaismile flight is cheaper with Thai Airways (on Skyscanner, not Thai Airways) than with Thaismile. Why are you flying home from Phuket? I arrived at Phuket for the sandbox but booked the return leg from Swampy. That was with Emirates. Cant you change your return flight to one from Swampy?
  11. I dont wish to hijack this thread but I think it has run it's course. I will be in a similar but different situation next year where my extension renewal will be in March 23 and my passport will expire in May 23. I glean from above that the extension will only be granted until when my passport runs out in May 23 but I will be leaving with a re-entry permit in April 23 for the UK. What will be my situation when I wish to return to Thailand with a new passport in October 23 please?
  12. Curious as to how they measure because, like a banana, my inside curve measurement is an inch shorter than the outside....555. which do they use?
  13. What a caring owner letting a young dog out every night next to a busy highway like that! Typical Thai driver creeping out dead slow into fast moving highway traffic at night...and without indicating too I think!
  14. I am 69 and had no side effects at all from my Thai Pfizer booster. Maybe your injection was not aspirated. Many have had serious side effects when the needle has injected directly into a blood vessel in the muscle sending the vaccine around the body almost instantly when it should stay in the muscle. Aspiration; the slight withdrawal of the needle after inserting it to check for blood from a blood vessel prevents this from happening.
  15. Strange. Where are you? I had mine in January at a walk in vaccination site in Udon Thani. Also I know there are walk in sites in smaller places in Esaan. These sites are not usually in hospitals. Perhaps they are just answering that they 'no have' but not offering more info. on where you can get vaccinated. Thais often do this; answer a specific question without telling you anything else obviously connected to the subject.
  16. Bonus payments: 500thb for nid noi nooky, 2000thb for nooky yai mak mak.
  17. I just had 2 weeks in Udon. UD Town night market/food court was serving beer openly which they were not over New Year when it had to be concealed. But in Centre Point night market food court the vendors were still having to hide it and serve it in 'alternative' vessels. Also at 2 favoured Chinese Thai restaurants, one was serving beer openly while it's neighbour was not. Methinks brown envelopes to police could be involved here.
