  1. And so it begins, which is why I mentioned 'conflicting posts'.

I think the rule of thumb is, if you have two originals they'd have accepted one, and if you have one original they'll insist on two.

    tongue.png

Could be & as we say so often TIT

But mine was an actual experience & I never showed that I had multiple copies

I just asked what she needed then took it out of my brief.

I only had extras because I was buying a bike & truck too.

  2. It's a bit odd that posters who have these failed to mention it before.

I suspect it isn't in the sales brochure either. rolleyes.gif

    What isn't in the brochure??

Sent from my GT-P1010 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

You know actually redline & HP for that matter is usually not listed on Manufacturers specs

But.....They do give bore x stroke so most people can figure it out as to whether

it is a torque based ( low rev ) or HP based ( high rev ) type engine.

Not to say one style has more hp than the other just to say they make their hp

    in different type powerbands.

But even if it is not listed on manufacturers spec lists almost always we will

see a early review/release report & they will always give the hp & redline

both of which is usually not given in the spec list

  3. n250 wins hands down looks wise but if i buy a road bike here i want to do some touring on it so 250cc engine out of the question for me ,the cbr range dont know never even seen one yet so i would have to test ride one first ,at the moment until i get to see/ ride 500 range i think i would probably go for the kawasaki 650 range.

For me when I bought the 2013 Ninja 250 looks was a bonus but it was the engine type

that cinched the deal for me in that price range. I had looked at many bikes & the fun per baht

on the N250 fit my needs best.

I do agree with you though that if touring is your desired use then then N250 would not be the best choice.

No point in cruising along at a higher RPM in 6th when there are many bikes more diesel like in

engine characteristics which is better suited to touring.Like a diesel cruising in 6th at lower rpm

is more pleasurable over hundreds of km's straight roads. Of coarse the added displacement wouldn't hurt either.

Although yesterday we were cruising back from a ride at 140kph which is sufficient on these roads.

To tell you the truth if I am on a road for very long meaning more than say 20km in 6th gear I am

thinking of turning around & finding a more interesting road as I ride for pleasure not distance.

Just yesterday took the wife on a ride to Wiang Pa Pao Chiang Rai. While not as tight as I like it when alone it was perfect

for two up sport style riding. Rowing between 4th & 6th twisty, sweeping, up & down enough to keep it interesting.

We then turned off to Phayao but after 15 or so km's turned around as the road was long mostly straight & boring.

Will have to check a map as I thought it was supposedly more of a mountain pass type road.

  4. Oh, one more thing. If you want a car and a bike license you'll need two certificates. Depending on the transport office some of them will take a photocopy some won't (not from experience - just from the many conflicting posts I've read on the subject).

No you only need one if applying for two licenses at the same time

I recently did both car & bike license & while I had two in case

the lady at the front desk who preps papers said they only needed one & would make a copy for the bike license since all your records

are kept together. They can see the original also in your file.

If applying for just one license of course you need an original though.

  5. Just an FYI- on the Dainese Proshop Bangkok Facebook page they have the G. Air-3 Tex jacket advertised for 6900 baht- that's a pretty good deal for a local purchase.

That is a good price equal to the street price in the USA $240/7000 baht

Compared to the Air Frame which I have ( 9000 baht ) the main differences that I liked with the air frame

was the back protector pocket is inside not outside like this Air 3. ( Don't know why they did that? )

& also the Air frame has a zip in windbreaker on the inside that can be used or not.

Also the Air Frame I believe flows the most air of their textile jackets.

    Air 3

    Air frame

  6. Personally I have no medical insurance pointless in Thailand, overpriced medical crap on offer along with supposed medical assurance, but personally I am bombproof, through past employment my care/flights/recuperation are met to the full, privately too, better than any printed out medical insurance crap that can be pulled at a moments notice in LOS

I also am self insured currently but,

I do have US credit cards that have millions of Baht limits

usable here & could use them in case of an emergency.

When you say your bombproof do you mean because you can be flown out to services?

I also realize that in a true crisis I may not be stable enough to fly out

so do not count on foreign services back in my home country being readily accessible either.

So in lieu of having a locally recognized/accepted insurance card I would want some form of

payment available to get cared for till flight capable.

  7. I figured that in auto mode with the shifts at lower rpms would help in the emissions test. I could be wrong. When I ordered the CBR 1000, I thought it was full spec. I found out otherwise and went through with the purchase anyway. I asked Big Wing if the 1000 was restricted and they answered thruthfully. I derestricted it, but was a bit upset that it wasn't full spec right off the bat. No way I would go through that again. I have been assured by Big Wing that the VFR 1200 is full spec and I have no reason not to believe them.

I dont think the shift point would make a difference when testing emissions

Otherwise one could sandbag any bike past the test. Also aren't emission tests stationary?

On your old 1000 I guess the next buyer gets a bonus in getting a unrestricted bike.

  8. Think I'll stick to the 1/3 price method, especially as I'm a Brit smile.png

Do not know if Brits can get one at the consulate?

The 1/3 price deal is true depending on how you like

visiting the zoo. Has its good days & bad I hear wink.png

Eventually I am thinking of buying a Yellow book

& not needing the certificates any longer

  9. need a photo too!

    and passport copies...

wave the 500 baht and you'll be taken care quickly,

as the money goes under the table...teamoney...

    no receipt!

(as it is free in other immigr.offices..)

What would this cost at the U. S. Consulate? And appointment needed, (made on-line)?....or just walk in?

I think they can only get an affidavit of you swearing your a resident. Not a certification. not sure of the price but I think its 50 USD for any notary document.

Not sure the motor vehicle people would accept that.... how will their buddies get their easy money?

    http://chiangmai.usconsulate.gov/service/notarial.html

Yes that is correct $50 USD

    which is 1450 baht

You can also pay in baht but it will be 1600 for some strange reason?

I have bought 3 from them already

Used my US credit card billed in USD

    Yes everyone accepts them

Whether buying a vehicle, selling or getting drivers license all accepted

You do need an appointment but you can make it the day before usually

as they always have room. Easy & quick

    No proof etc needed.

Show passport raise hand swear what you wrote is true $50 all done.

  10. Thanks for the information mania. I have seen rsv racing sets. Quite good. I am quiet busy these days with work, could not go for a hunt yet. Next week i would like to check all, moth racing etc.

Yes Moth makes nice things too

I got my frame sliders from them & they are nice quality parts

  11. You might want to also check with floridaguy

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/user/65746-floridaguy/

I turned him onto this one that I had considered but could not

    travel to check it out.

He bought it & was considering selling his other one which he posted before here

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/554287-honda-vfr400rr-nc30-project-bike/?hl=+nc30

( Dont look at the red one that karlos owned in post 3 of that thread........will make all others look weak )

Dont know if floridaguy did sell the black one or not but may be worth a check.

Maybe he will see this post & chime in

  12. There are some great shops right in ChiangMai

    Zeromet on ChangPuak

Just turn left at the big market outside the moat ChangPuak Gate

A little ways down on the right you will see the two story store

with all the helmets & gear

    http://zeromet.tarad.com/?lang=en

Also the usual spot across Suriwong Book Store stocks many brands in

    large sizes

Both places sell LS2, Real,Bimola etc.

Also you can try Kawasaki Chiangmai outside Chiangmai gate on the moatthey stock many & prices are quite good.

Lastly CNX Motogear on Chiangmai Lamphun road after the intersection & before Miguels

a hundred yards or so on the right.

You can find helmets & gear at these places for 2500-5000 baht that are good quality

Also if you go thru Chiangmai gate across the street from Kawasaki. There is a new place

right inside that street straight across the gate. They sell AGV helmets.

    The K3 goes for 6300-6900 I think?

  13. No the funny part is that you don't get what I mean.

I wasn't revving it on 100% really. I was more fast accelerating and it let me down before it even felt close to the limit.

Perhaps to make it more clear I didn't know it was such a lame engine power wise. And the Rev limit set 9k is already maxxed out for that engine. Will that make you happy?

No what you meant was clear to everyone

since you posted it in so many different threads/topics even the for sale section smile.png

We understand you did not like it & it was disappointing to you.

We understand you may have even gotten a bad example low on gas rolleyes.gif

Yes your final sentence above is more clear.....for you wink.png

Since I think everyone already knew exactly what you were saying as we read your ten or more

    cut & paste posts.

Many tried nicely to explain to you why it is what it is.

Perhaps the simplest thing to tell you is literally

Different Strokes for different folks smile.png

    Good luck

  14. My first post to ThaiVisa

I am surprised no one has mentioned Mexican Grill. I am only a customer and have no business association with them.

They recently relocated from Pai and are on the outer side of Canal Road south of Suthep Road.

The burritos are very TexMex and portions are huge. They offer an upsized version and that one is impossible to eat in one sitting.

Also have other TexMex dishes, ribs, Margaritas....

The food is good but the kitchen is very slow... so be warned.

Well the place in Pai closed because the Mexican food was terrible - I don't know any local that went there more than once or twice. Hope it's better in the new location but we don't miss it at all.
Yeah..... I had a post all ready to go about a week ago

regarding this place & decided if I did not have anything good to

say I would just not post it.

But, since others have brought it up I have to agree with cloudhopper

Also as CMfoodie said kitchen is super slooooooow

food was just ok but not something I would go back for.

The margaritas we ordered came from a slush machine.

While it was nicely frozen which is rare in Thailand

it did not taste good at all. Probably cheap tequila

Miguel's on the moat is still the best Mexican we have found here.

Of course not the best we have ever eaten as we are from the US but the best here.

Funny though their branch on Chiang Mai Lamphun road is not as good?

We tried twice & both times it was not as good as the moat location food wise.

Pity as they have excellent parking & enclosed air con in a nice place.

Easier to get to than the moat location on most nights.

  15. The bike that really attracted my attention was that gun metal grey R1. Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh at the weekend if I get some spare time... And of course that 636...

    Yeah that R1 is hot

I have not rode a R1 in many years & would love to try one today & see how

they have changed. When I had a CBR900RR my pal had the R1 & we would swap off & on during rides.

The early models were also killer fast but lacked a little in the handling & finish.IMHO

Now they have been refined for many years & had years of race feedback from their programs.

I bet they are a very nice ride.

  16. well, we have more than a single Cypriot bank collapsing based on what was hammered out last night and the negative details are still pouring in bit by bit. but the markets are all "green".

Sometimes I get the feeling the markets are a poor indicator these

days. The normal investors have mostly left & any remaining are dancing

very near to or in & out of the door.

I think the market is now run by those that make it indicate what

they need it to indicate to convince the masses everything is rosy.
