    Okay, thanks again, good info.

I have a letter from the Chinese company that wants me to visit them so if I sort the tickets out now hopefully I will not need to change them.

Will be doing it in Bangkok but guess its the same.

    Thanks

    Bob

Are you here on a long term visa?

If I see one more poster writing about queues at BTS ticket machines I'm gunna go postal !!!

Just buy a Rabbit card. The sooner they wipe out cash payments for the BTS & MRT the better. Don't use the BTS often? Doesn't matter. The stored value on your card is valid for two(?) years and can be used in McDonalds, various coffee shops etc. etc. Unless you're some first time tourist, there is no reason to be lining up for tokens, ever.

I'm a great fan of the BTS but to be fair, the system of queueing for coins then queueing again for tickets is ridiculous.  Yeah, we all have our Rabbit cards and there is no excuse for people who live here, but for tourists it is horrendous - they can't be expected to know and they may only make one or two trips in the time they are here.

In London you can't even get on a bus now without an Oyster card - there are no other payments options (apart from contactless bank or credit cards) - so you could just do the same here and everyone needs to adapt.  But a 100 baht deposit for a Rabbit card is quite a lot for someone who might only be here a couple of days.

There were huge queue's at the ticket machines saphan taksin 4 hours ago. And we were there after waiting in a super long queue at Icon Siam to get the boat to Sathorn pier, had to wait 4 boats before we could board...took 45 minutes so don't go there...

Were there any bird attacks at Saphan Taksin?  Did you survive?  Hope you didn't get chirruped to death.

Feel free to answer any of the questions you've been asked about those ridiculous claims.  Feel free to name the stations that are infested.  Feel free to tell us about the station closures that have happened.   Any time.  We'll just be waiting here.

Maybe from Mo-Chit yes, there are a lot of tourists especially on weekend as many want see the JJ weekend-market.

But on other routes I see about 80% Thai person in the BTS... sometimes even more.

Definitely.  How can anyone say the BTS is mostly clogged up with tourists?  As you say it is mostly Thai commuters.

Just proves that most of the moaners don't actually use it very often, or base their criticisms on one bad experience and extrapolate that to the entire network.

What's the advantage? Seems to me like this is just a way for the government to have more of your personal information.

A licence takes less pocket space to carry than a phone.

And. Road safety and carnage reduction should rate much higher than this nonsense !

What's so hard to understand about this for people moaning about how much bigger a phone is than a card.

Nobody is asking you to carry another phone for a DL.  It is not a burden.  You already have a phone.  If you want to you can have a DL app on it.  You do not have to.  It is not compulsory.

And your last line is straight out the TV textbook.  They should not be able to make any improvements to anything at all because road safety is very bad here.

That's great news if it happens.

In the concrete-jungle that is Bangkok it seems such a shame. Although I think that area has only been really developed in the last 60 years or so, I think that house was from the 1920's, originally built by/for a Thai General apparently.

Not really reconstructing it.  They are building a replica of it (but using a couple of original bits and pieces).  And it is on soi 11 so will have none of that quiet oasis charm.

Bangkok is a big place. Where?
The Marriott soi 2 has day passes to the gym and pool

How much they want to spend?

Good point, it is a big place.  They are staying on soi 11.  They wouldn't mind paying a grand each for somewhere nice.

Just saw the Sofitel do a day pass.  Looks nice.  https://www.so-sofitel-bangkok.com/offers/sofit-one-day-pass/

I'll check out the Marriot, thanks.  Any other suggestions most welcome.

Emporium Suites does. I believe its about 500 baht per person. They will bring you drinks to the pool.

Thanks, that is nice.  Nothing about Day Access on their website but I'll check.

agree about the design and art it contains! and the hotel was certainly an icon.

but I don't agree about age and history... what history did this building see?

I think it took a rocket during the Bangkok protests, but I can't remember any other historical episode of any major significance. maybe you can enlighten me.

Thanks for the belittling reference to "the mall" lol. my parent's home was built 1538. but it's a bit unfair... old Europe, hey.

Dusit Thani is a recent building that won't be remembered in 200 years, sorry.

I don't like disproportionate superlatives and exagerations - check my other post about George Bush Sr.:

Lauding everything in superlatives is not doing anyone a service.

Iconic it may have been seeing as it was once the tallest building in Bangkok.  Interiors and artwork are impressive.  But other than that, meh.  Personally I always found it quite an ugly thing.  It looks very much what it is - a concrete building from 1970.  It certainly wouldn't be preserved in the UK, nor should it be.

  12. Hi all,

I have a friend coming to Bangkok with his wife for a few days.  They are staying somewhere ok but not amazing.  They have asked if there are any hotels with nice pools that allow you to pay to access.  I have no idea if anyone does this.  They would pay just to hang out there for a day by the pool and drink cocktails.

    Does anybody know of any?

    God I love bangkok!

Wonder how the sour old moaners trapped in nahkon nowhere will spin this into yet another " but they sleep at the airport and That counts" emoji23.pngemoji23.png

I'm waiting for the first "I wonder how much TAT paid for that" comment.  Or something about brown envelopes.  Or someone to call it a third world country.
