Shrinkflation - Inflation Using The Art of Marketing Lies
connda replied to connda's topic in General Topics
Actually I looked at the package again last night. It used to be 150 grams and now is 120 gram - 30 grams less = 20% less product. What do the nine pooches think? They have short memories. They're just ecstatic to get a tasty treat - even though I don't think they are so tasty. Sorta tastes like wood filler. Yeah - government consumer protection divisions should make this illegal, but corporations pay politicians to make sure that laws like that never get written. It's fascistic, but there yeah go, we live in fascistic times now. Corporations screw over consumers and governments let them do to their financial arrangement with the corporate entities. -
Marriage Visa - Proof of Income
connda replied to Aussie999's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I don't understand you people who keep harping on this same point over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over <------ see, doesn't that get irritating. "I'm extending my visa based on marriage," or "I'm applying for a visa extension based on marriage," or "I'm getting an extension based on marriage." Honestly - wtf difference does it make? None! All of us apply for annual extensions know exactly what an OP means if they say, "I want to extend my visa based on marriage." Then you guys come along, "You can't extend a Visa - stupid!" You are the same as the "Spelling and Grammar Police" on this forum. Really - why do you insist on doing it? Does it make you feel superior. Just stop. There is no need for it. Everyone here - including YOU - understands what an OP means by "extending a visa based on marriage." "But you can't extend of Visa." Just - Stop! Please. Just like Moonlover states as well. You're adding nothing to this forum or this thread by nitpicking on words. You're just being the "Immigration Law Definitions Grammar Police." Nothing more, nothing less. Cut it out. -
Marriage Visa - Proof of Income
connda replied to Aussie999's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
My 400K has been in my bank account for years. Actually over a decade. I've come to the conclusion that there are IOs out there who simply want to harass those of us married to Thai women. You put the money in the account 6 months before the extension and your wife gets told to put it in 2 months before the extension - "Or Else!" Wtf? So you keep that money in until your next extension, and then what? My last extension my IO (a new gal and recent hire) wanted a bank statement covering a full year for a marriage extension. It was simply a PITA as I had to go back to the bank and spend another 100 THB for the statement. Thank God it wasn't BKK Bank or I'd have had to wait a week or more to get that full year statement. SCB could crank it out on the spot. But - that's not how the police orders read - it's two month before so they only need two months of statements - well - unless their express purpose is to harass you, or the IO doesn't really have a clue regarding the law he/she are suppose to enforce. So I've also come to the conclusion that many IOs don't have a freaking clue as to what Thai Immigration laws actually says - in other words they are incompetent. I'm being nice and giving them the benefit of the doubt. Stupid - not vindictive, although some are clearly vindictive. I've met at least one. Best of luck. -

Thaksin Tells Pheu Thai to Abandon Digital Wallet Plan
connda replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
You know - really - everyone who put up an election posters promising to use the funds out of the Thai Treasury to "give (enter promise amount of THB) to the voters if their they should win" should all be kicked out of office by the EC and the courts. I should have taken picture of that fiasco of election posters because they were the ultilmate farce. And that practice should be absolutely illegal. It IS Vote Buying - just using the tax payer funds from the Thai Treasury. So guess what farangs - with the new tax rules - you'll be paying the Thai public to vote for the candidate who promises to pay-out Thai public funds to the public using your money. And other then being a Thai Tax Resident, you enjoy none of the benefits of a Thai citizen. Hell of a deal - huh? Actually I don't want to see that 10K per person paid out at all. For a couple of reasons. First - it is highly inflationary. Second - it's based on a pack of lies, just as Khun Tony has just pointed out. "Vote For (Enter Party Name/Candidate Name) and we will empty the Thai Treasury into your pockets! (After the election) HA HA HA, JUST KIDDING - NOT! Sucks to be you pathetic cretins, 'eh commoners." So - think that the Thai electorate will fall for that ploy again? Of course they will - human greed and the fact that average people are a dense as a box of concrete. -

The Hidden Dangers of Parasites in Stored Salmon
connda replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I commercial fished for salmon in Washington and Oregon and have cleaned more salmon than I want to remember. Wild salmon is a rich pink to orange. Some species more than others. "White?" You have no idea what you're talking about, not even a little. If you're blowing smoke - just don't - it makes you look stupid.- 52 replies

The Hidden Dangers of Parasites in Stored Salmon
connda replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Well, yeah. Don't eat it raw. I'll eat sushi in Japanese restaurants, but I don't touch raw salmon. -
I mean really. What is "shrinkflation." In my humble opinion it is the worst form of inflation as it seeks to deceive the consumer with the lie that the price of a corporation's product isn't being inflated. But it is a lie, and a bold-faced lie at that. This week I purchase some mini-hot dogs in new & improved packaging. Two thing immediately struck me. First - the consistency of the hot-dog is changed, as in they are tough when they used to be much more tender when you bit into them. Secondly, any time I see new packaging the first thing I do is to check the net weight of the product with an old packaging. Yeah - sure enough. Although the price is still the same, the net weight of the hot dogs in now 20 grams lighter. And based on my taste-test, both the consistency and taste has changed. I'd venture to say that the hot-dogs are now made with an increased amount of some "filler" agent that ain't pork. Well, from the standpoint of actually eating them, they are really not for me. I buy them for my dogs who like them as treats. But this does nothing to increase my respect for the corporation who makes the hot-dogs (to be left unnamed due to Thailand Machiavellian defamation laws) Will I keep buying them? For awhile - the dogs like them. But if I notice the weight going down again? Then they are off my shopping list. I've taken a number of products I use to purchase off my shopping list lately for exactly the same reason - shrinkflation. It's deception and I can't abide by deception. So although I'll continue to buy the hot dogs for my dogs, I'm going to jettison other products that the corporation makes them. Deception should never me rewarded. If anything, shinkflation of processed foods leads me to eat healthier. I just stop buying packaged processed foods and go for fresh foods sold by the kilo. So thank you unnamed corporation for leading me to eat a more healthy diet. As for my dogs? They don't care. They're just happy to get a couple of hot dogs every few days.

What's One Thing You Wish You Knew Before Moving to Thailand?
connda replied to Conan The Barbarian's topic in General Topics
That I'd be nothing but a "Temporary Visitor Visiting My Wife" during my annual extension stay in Thailand, as opposed to foreign gals married to Thai men who have a direct path to citizenship. It's inhumanly unfair. Had I know in advance, I would have probably never married in Thailand. -

Where can you purchase a Class D fire extinguisher for putting out Lithium Ion battery fires. Every home has these batteries nowaday and they are extremely difficult to put out. Like putting out phosphorous or magnesium fires. Anyway, I'd like to have one in the house. Currently have a couple of ABC extinguisher but those will not put out a LI battery fire.
