  1. If I had a time machine I would have stayed in Thailand through 2008 and then vacated to a county which actually want's retirees.
  2. Dolphin Roundabout New Development So they are going to build a circular pool and stock it with dolphins? Flipper should be happy as a clam! "Ek ek ek ek ek! Chit chit chit chit chit." <flips in the air>
  3. The government put the tourism industry on a 5ml midazolam/5ml morphine drip since last April. What do they expect? You gotta allow the patient to get up and walk or else you'll lose them completely.
  4. Any guy who beats a woman should be tied to a chair and the victim allowed to flog him until they tire out. In public.
  5. It's not 'the nature of a massage business.' <deleted>. I've know a lot of Thai women personally who work in that trade and I've never heard of one being physically attacked and raped. It's a total one-off. They should let Joe Farrari have a half and hour with this poor excuse for a human being.
  6. Now referred to as a digital identity and a Covid Passport. "May I see your papers please!"
  7. I've lived here close to 15 years and have never heard of "the fearful myth of 'be careful' <when> acknowledging other farang." First off, I don't 'acknowledge' farang on the street anymore than I 'acknowledge' a native Thai or Indian or African or Asian or Islanders who just happen to be walking in my vicinity. Why? Well sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. It really depends on context. In the city on the city streets - probably not. In the village on the village roads - probably so. It's my community. I'll exchange pleasantries with anyone regardless of ethnicity. However while touring in tourist location (like Pai) I may strike up a conversation while at a bar (remember those things pre-Covid) because bars and alcohol tend to lead to interesting conversations. However with that said - I have never had anyone other than Thais try to hit me up for money. Not one.
  8. It's patently discriminatory but according to the court - "Fleece the foreigners its good for the country." TIT. Imagine the howls of "discrimination" should any Western country specifically target foreigners for the fleecing. Imagine a Thai green card holder walking into the North Hollywood hospital and being handed an inflated bill because "your not an American." The screams would be heard in Bangkok. Here? It's Ok with the court - fleece the foreigners.
  9. See if you can find a member here who knows how to resistance train. Essentially find a workout partner who can guide you through the use of the equipment and to establish a routine, and perhaps even a training diet. I'd offer to do it myself, but unfortunately I don't live in Chiang Mai. Traveling to CM is a full day trip. But perhaps some other member could assist?
  10. How long can PM Prayut remain in power? For his entire life.
  11. W.....t......f with f*** representing a term that can be used as an infinitive, present and past participle, conjugations, present continuous, present perfect, present perfect continuous, simple past tense. past continuous, past perfect perfect continuous, simple future, future continuous, and future perfect tenses! I'd provide examples but..... you know.... I can't. Don't for a second think that those who use said language lack English language skills. We're just - more expressive and less inhibited. Fyi, I learned how to conjugate f*** in the United States military. Thank god I came out of there with a skill set. ????
  12. Lamphun is florishing. Wife and I drove through and were commenting on the difference between Chiang Mai (which looks bombed out) and Lamphun (pretty much thriving with local and domestic business). Honestly - for the vast majority of Thailand - really? Who needs foreign tourists.
  13. "A society is only as healthy as its ideas are humane." Kurt Vonnegut
  14. "Freedom has cost too much blood and agony to be relinquished at the cheap price of rhetoric." Thomas Sowell
  15. There is a huge difference between a guy like me married to a Thai national being able to put their name on a land deed on a piece of property they'll probably die on, and voracious capitalists looking to scarf up properties and flipping them for profit. The former does nothing to real estate prices; the latter puts real estate prices out of reach of normal Thais. Which may just be the plan. Essentially the power elite are now selling the country to the highest bidders.
  16. Pattaya: New "B.L.U.E." future envisaged - forget entertainment the focus is business and leisure What is leisure without entertainment? Sitting on the beach with a bottle of Chang? Wait! Can't even do that.
  17. Latest Poll suggests two thirds of Thais believe Prayuth can get Thailand out of economic mess Most of a tiny sample of 1078 people suggests that two thirds of the sample believe Prayuth can get Thailand out of economic mess. It that poll representative of Thailand? Is it an unbiased sample? Well, there are lies, damn lies, and statistics.
