  1. Huh? I've live here 15 years and other than the Christian missionaries who pretty much proselytizer to the Hill Tribes, I haven't seen what you're complaining about. Most people I know who live here long term are quite accepting of the gay and trans culture in Thailand as are a majority of Thais I know. Why? Because unlike the US it isn't radicalized. Both sides generally accept the other. The problems begin where either side start throwing hatred and intolerance at the other side. I've seen it in the US. Both sides can get really ugly. Overall, I don't see much intolerance for either side here. Everybody pretty much gets along - as it should be.
  2. The world should smarten up and stop voting dinosaurs in to leadership positions and let the next generation take the reins of power. This from a Boomer. It's time for geriatric cases to retire - honestly. And here in Thailand. They force retirement for everyone else at 60. It should apply to politicians as well.
  3. Translated: "Vote for me and I can guarantee that there will be no coup while I'm in office. Vote for any of the others and I can't vouch for such guarantees - therefore - vote for me!"
  4. Personally? I'd find a different place to live. I've lived in Chiang Mai and there is a huge selection of apartments for rent. Now that you know the scam, don't fall for the over-priced electric the next time around. FYI - when I lived there we only used fans. We lived in a 4th floor apartment with great air circulation. You acclimatize. Want cooler air. There are DIY tutorials on how to make an air cooler using a fan, ice chest, and a block of ice. We also used swamp coolers which worked well this time of year - not so good during the humidity of the rainy season. Best of luck.
  5. There's probably Nigerian con-artists and romance scammers behind some of those posts.
  6. Prostitutes and the act of prostitution are morally relative terms. I've met many women over the last 50+ years who would negotiate sexuality and sexual receptivity in order to gain financial favors, security, bling, and 'presents'. What's the difference other than calling the women who do that in Thailand "prostitutes" while claiming Western women engaged in similar behavior are somehow saints. Sure they are.
  7. Same, same. Refer to BritManToo's post.
  8. Whatever you're paying, it's peanuts compared to the US. Last year it was some ridiculously small amount. I'm not complaining.
  9. Yeah, I was looking on Lazada and was those. They run in the 5K to 6K THB range. Thanks for the info. Any recommendations on recipes?
  10. It's sort of counter-productive to end it at all.
  11. I accept your point of view and understand it.
  12. Government hospital - or - use this time to start accepting his mortality. Get his affairs in order, draw up a Will and Living Will, seek quality of life over extension of life, meditate, get his spiritual house in order and develop acceptance and self-compassion.
  13. What is a "Sideline Girl"? The hotties behind the glass in the fishbowls that do the deed part-time and generally charge more. Often college students and the like.
  14. Fake sugar still spikes your insulin production, so probably 'yes' it will.
  15. Intermittant fasting is a good way to go.
  16. You'll eventually be scraped off of the road. Just a matter of time.
  17. Of course you don't drive on the shoulder all the time. At times you have to move out to the middle lanes. However, when I do it, I look in the mirror, throw a glace over my right shoulder and safely merge. Most Thais? They don't look. They'll just pull right out in front of a car going 20, 30, 40 kph faster than them. It's suicidal, just like pulling out from a side road onto the main road without looking - which I'd say 80+% of Thai M/C do. It no wonder 80% of the fatalities are M/C. When I had a "Big Bike" I drove like I did in the US except I never found it fun driving here at all as you can never let down your guard for a second and just enjoy the ride. Driving here is like driving in an Arcade Game.
  18. U-Turns of Death. M/C that drive up on the right side of your car, and then cut in front of you to the shoulder as your attempting to make a right into the left lane. They need to be on the left side - morons.
  19. When I lived in Bangkok the cops would disagree with you. They'd ticket M/C drivers not driving on the shoulder. I've driven highways myself on my Honda 125. Self-preservation! Most of my driving was on the shoulder. I racked up about 35k kilometers in the first 5 years living here. I've seen it all.
  20. When I lived in Chiang Mai my Honda Dream was my primary transportation. It's the best way to get around in the city imho. But I also always realized that a two ton car always wins an accident an drove accordingly. Motorcyclists now? Well, fatality rates pretty much spell it out here in Thailand with 80% of the fatalities being M/C riders.
  21. There use to be a guy who trained GS for home protection up here in Northern Thailand, but I can't find him now via a search (search engines are getting worse by the year). You may want to try contacting a Thai kennel club and perhaps they can point you in the right direction.
  22. Yeah, people dump dogs at our temple. We work with the abbot to care for them and find them homes. We also pay to get the bitches spayed if they are approachable. We've spayed quite a few over the last 10 years out of own pocket. It sorts itself out and we try to help where we can. The biggest problem is unspayed females.
  23. In our village, shots are free and given out to all houses with dogs and cats annually.
  24. Yep. 100% absolutely. And they need to shut up when you tell them to quiet down. All 8 of my will.
  25. Being activated as well as restrained by voice commands alone.
