  1. That’s not up to the government, but the finance company. Without proof of employment in Thailand it’s unlikely though that you’ll qualify. Unless the finance company is a bank and you are willing to place the outstanding amount in a fixed deposit as a guarantee. But in that case it’s probably cheaper to just pay off the loan all at once and take ownership immediately in stead of waiting a year.
  2. Thailand is more than Bangkok and its vicinity or Chiang Mai and other northern areas during burning season. The air on the coastal and island areas in the South is nearly year round very clean.
  3. The discrepancy between experiences is easily explained. To close a company is not very expensive, however a final balance will have to be made and corporate tax paid before it can be closed. If a property has been in a company name for a long time, has since appreciated in value while being depreciated in the yearly accounts, then this can result in a large profit upon sale, resulting in a large corporate tax bill. example; property purchased 10 years ago for 3 million, book value today after writing off 5% per annum (to reduce yearly taxes any accountant will depreciate assets by as much as allowed) is 1.5 million. Now sold and valued at 5 million. Corporate profit is 3.5 million (disregard other expenses and deductibles). That’s 15% x 3M + 20% x 0.5M = 550,000 Baht tax bill.
  4. The RT is just a step to make RNA into DNA. PCR can only be done on DNA. Since the coronavirus is an RNA virus any and all PCR tests done on it will be RT-PCR regardless what terminology is written on the document.
  5. Of course they are, like most countries to differing degrees. But certainly not to strengthen the value of the Baht, rather to weaken it to boost exports.
  6. I had the same opinion, but was in a similar predicament as the OP last year. The company I worked for could no longer keep paying me due to Covid, so we decided to at least temporarily end the employment. That way I at least would get some benefits from the government. That ended a 15 year employment during which not a single time I used an agent, accountant or lawyer to deal with immigration or the labor department. Immigration always made it clear they preferred to deal with an agent and not with companies and employees directly, but we always succeeded and never paid a Baht more than the official fees for anything. Anyway after my termination I checked with immigration on options for me. A standard ED visa / extension is apparently not possible on a non-b entry. Immigration suggested contacting an agent. Long story short, I ended up with an extension based on volunteering through a very influential acquaintance. At times I worried about the legitimacy of it all, but nothing like when I walked up to the re-entry booth at the airport earlier this year for a short trip abroad. I was expecting some serious questions… anyway the officer took my passport without saying much and disappeared in her office. 5 minutes later she comes out with a big smile and is suddenly very polite and wais me!!! after handing back my passport with the re entry stamp. I won’t speculate on how these things work, but suffice to say no one wants to risk it stop working…
  7. From over 100 years of research and experience it is known that in general the longest lasting vaccines are those which are made from a live attenuated virus and which include an adjuvant. The new MRNA types haven’t been used long enough, but early indications are not very favorable. Right now there are no live virus vaccines for Covid-19, although there are a few candidates in a trial. The problem is increased risk of side effects. the closest are the Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines which use the real fill virus but is it fully deactivated plus an adjuvant is used. In contrast to lots of speculation and gripping headlines in western media the efficacy of these vaccines appear to hold up better over time than the viral vector or MRNA types.
  8. There is a difference between a brick and mortar store accepting cc payments where an actual card is read and a pin (at higher amounts) or signature is requested and an online shop or service where the customer just fills in the details. The general rate for the first case is 2.5 to 3%, whereas in online it’s at least 3.5%, and as a starting merchant often over 4%. the problem is the increased risk for the creditcard company of fraud. That’s why when accepting online cc payments a bank will request that you have an established company and show your products and past sales and you’ll have to pay a bond covering around two months of expected payments. There are online providers who have far less requirements but then the fees are closer to 5% and it’ll take time to release the payment.
  9. People vaccinated with Sputnik V can enter the Phuket Sandbox.
  10. So much speculation and guesswork in this thread. imports valued at over 40,000 THB (including shipping and insurance) require an import declaration to be made. This is a paperless system for companies who are registered with customs. As a private individual it’s quite complicated and not something you can do yourself. FedEx will do it for you for a very large fee because they know you can’t do it. I suggest finding another customs clearance agent and give them a power of attorney to import and declare on your behalf. That way you’re looking at no more than 5000 Baht in fees. (Plus of course the 7% VAT on the shipment).
  11. Most of the vulnerable people in the UK died in the first two waves. The vulnerable people in Thailand didn’t, so you’re bound to see more death in Thailand in this delta wave.
  12. 2x Sinovac in April no reactions at all. Booster J&J 2 weeks ago. Fever spiking to 41.5 degrees after 8 hours. A few hours later back down to 38. Next morning all normal again apart from pain between my shoulders for half a day and a lingering sore arm for a few days.
  13. Hey Poorsucker. I’m following your itinerary. Currently in a hotel in Patong, but tomorrow I’ll fly to Samui to do my 2nd sandbox week there. No one told me I can’t use my own transport while back on Samui. If thats the case I’ll just park my car outside the hotel, as I only intend to sleep and enjoy the breakfast there. Oh and take looong showers to get my money’s worth. ????
  14. Smart watches are taxed as normal (not precious metal) watches under heading 91029990. the duty is 5% plus 7% VAT. Please be warned that if the watch has its own sim capability you may need an import license.
  15. I had two Sinovac jabs back in April, so I checked some latest research into boosters on top of that. Of course there won’t be any real world efficacy data yet, but studies on antibody levels in Turkey showed a 3rd Sinovac created a better immune response than a Pfizer booster, and another study in China showed a Cansino (normal single jab) booster to raise antibodies 80 times! The closest I could get my hands on back in Europe was the normally single shot J&J. So I just had that one before going back to Thailand in a few days. 6 hours after the booster I started shivering and another two hours later I was running a 41.5 degree fever. Three hours later back down to 38 and the next morning back to my normal 36.5. Just some linger muscle pains for a day more. I guess the booster did something! I never felt anything after my two initial Sinovac jabs.
  16. I plan to enter the Phuket sandbox on a visa exempt entry using the return leg of a ticket from Thailand earlier. I still have a re entry permit from a non-o extension from last year which is valid until a week after my arrival in Thailand. Would it be possible to get onto the plane and into Thailand without a ticket leaving Thailand when I intend to enter visa exempt but present my re entry permit at the airline when they ask questions? Or would they want that matched to the COE? If it’s safer to get a throwaway ticket, what destinations would be acceptable and possibly cheapest as all nearby countries are still closed more or less.
  17. Your work permit stays valid and you need it to apply for a new non-B visa at your embassy before arriving. In Thailand you can then apply for an extension of stay based on employment. Beware that you cannot enter on a tourist visa (or visa exempt) and legally work even when holding a prior obtained and still valid work permit.
  18. It’s a good question, and there are several reasons why it’s in such a small bottle.
  19. That 39% is the average. For people vaccinated in January Pfizer’s efficacy against Delta was down to 17%. The mRNA vaccines are very potent early on, but do loose their efficacy much quicker than the more traditional vaccine types.
  20. So the protection these Chinese vaccines after two doses offer is similar to the 60% of Astra Zeneca against Delta. That said the efficacy of AZ after a single dose is higher at around 30%. The vaccines by Pfizer and Moderna have a much higher starting efficacy, but also weaken much quicker than AZ or Sinovac. It’s estimated that 4 or 5 months after the second jab the efficacy will be similar to AZ at that time, hence the need for boosters with these MRNA vaccines within 8 months when efficacy will likely be below 20% as indicated by a recent Israeli study.
  21. The previous reply is correct that the cost of seafreight has skyrocketed this year. For a 20ft Bangkok to the UK expect at least 6000 pounds at the moment. During the height of the pandemic a lot of companies in the west halted or reduced production out of necessity or fear and China was happy to increase output and fill the gap. The result is that there’s currently a huge shortage of room on ships going to the west and available containers. Hopefully next year things will start to return to normal.
