  1. Indeed the UK is un-Presidented, we have Prime Minister, I think you mean unprecedented.
  2. Rubbish. Have you actually watched the series? Sure the early rounds include some clunkers but the standard of the competitors that reach the semis and final is exceptional; whilst not chefs by profession, the quality of food produced puts that of many 'professional chefs' to shame. Several of the winners and finalists have successfully changed career off the back of their success and become professional chefs.
  3. She is now, the title she won was MasterChef
  4. Excellent, I've never tried the pizzas there though they do look good. I had the duck confit which was splendid, there was even a brussels sprout amongst the vegetables. Wife had the pork stuffed with parma ham and a mushroom duxelles, and granddaughter had the pork tenderloin with mushroom and truffle sauce. Starters we shared the crab crepe, and Thai salmon tartar, dessert was fruit and ice cream, strawberries in cream (they were sharp), and a chocolate surprise. Service was good, and the food came in the right order, all in all a very pleasant evening.
  5. They've got rid of the huge great bar area, they've replaced the non-functional air con units but the peeling faux brick print wall paper and random saucepans remain, all part of the quirky look of the place. They've changed the tables, or maybe just got rid of the table cloths, I suspect the latter - allows for better cleaning, likely a Covid hangover.
  6. We re-visited to The Basil last night (Phone: 074-450-0009) (7.000930, 100.492144) first visit since Covid, glad to see it's still going strong. The food was excellent, and the service much improved and far better organised; much more The Basil, much less Basil Fawlty. Good value, three course meal for three (no alcohol as Vesak Day) came to Bht2,137. .
  7. Why don't these morons do things the other way around, everyone would be much happier, and safer, if they attempted suicide first.
  8. Hooters! Tweeters would be closer the mark
  9. Same here in Hat Yai, daily collection, the bin men usually come down our soi between 2 and 3am, but by that time several scavengers will have been through the bags looking for stuff to sell. Some are fairly tidy, but we've one old guy who just rips the bags open, throwing stuff everywhere, looking for old clothes, metal, plastic, paper or whatever takes his fancy. The bin men are good at collecting it all up, but it makes their job harder.
  10. It was a ten year old property, fairly well maintained, and recently vacated; we felt it was a good deal.
  11. The IO was happy to accept it but Bangkok wasn't, the IO phoned me yesterday afternoon and asked me to get the passbook updated and bring it to the office. Did that this morning, got another bank statement just in case. He was happy, hopefully Bangkok are too.
  12. We bought a foreclosed home from the Kasikorn Bank debt reclamation department 17 years ago, so far the the sky hasn't fallen. Sad case, the owner's husband was from Singapore, she borrowed against the house to pay for his chemotherapy, he died anyway and she couldn't repay the loan.
  13. No one parent is sufficient provided they have a signed copy of the other parent's ID card. That is what the Songkhla passport office have told my wife ahead of getting a new passport for our granddaughter; parents are separated and father works in Bangkok.
  14. Which one, there are two bridge projects? One is to link Krasae Sin district with Khao Chaison district in Phatthalung. The second is to replace the ferry and connect Songkhla Town with Singhanakhon.
  15. I just did 4.4 Stars, over 190,000 reviews, 84% gave 5 stars. Sorting by recent and reading back a dozen pages and the reviews are vast majority excellent. Can't say I saw any horror stories, some stupidity yes. I've been using Wise since 2018 and haven't had any problems, nor have I seen any recent decline in service.
  16. As said above Dee Money move money out of Thailand not in. The main alternatives to Wise (depending on where you're moving money from) are, in no particular order: XE Money Transfer Revolut OFX Currencies Direct MoneyGram CurrencyFair WorldRemit There are others like Western Union, and no doubt more I've never heard of. For the transfers I make to Thailand from either Singapore or the UK Wise is currently cheapest.
  17. You might still encounter the same problem if Wise has no more swaps with Kasikorn, then Wise might use one of its other partner banks, Bangkok Bank or Dee Money, to fulfil the transfer. It's a problem with peer to peer money moves, no money actually crosses the border, rather transactions are paired between partners. I like Wise but I'm not using it for my visa, if I were then I might consider using SWIFT to ensure the coding on the transfer is correct.
  18. I wouldn't move, happy where I am, but might buy a 2nd home near the beach somewhere.
