  1. Well the Singapore Dollar is doing fine, I got Bht26.18 yesterday, beginning of the year I was only getting Bht24.25.
  2. Krungsri and Kasikorn, though Krungsri is limited to transfers less than 50k.
  3. I use Wise from accounts in the UK and Singapore, and there are no people involved checking anything. Local bank transfers are instantaneous, and as soon as the money registers in the Wise account it triggers the corresponding bank transaction from Wise's Thai partner bank. Transfers from both UK and Singapore are usually completed in seconds.
  4. I think it's more a cultural issue, most of the gun totting, knife wielding, pepper spraying preppers are from the land of the 'free' I suspect.
  5. From the 15th July it is reported in the local news that the daily Hat Yai - Padang Besar train service is to resume. Two trains each way daily, fare is Bht50. Train No. 947 leaves Hat Yai Junction at 7.30am and arrives at Padang Besar 8.25am. Train No. 949 leaves Hat Yai Junction at 2:00pm and arrives at Padang Besar 2:55pm. Train No. 948 leaves Padang Besar at 8.55am and arrive at Hat Yai Junction 9.50 am. Train No. 950 leaves Padang Besar at 3.40pm and arrives at Hat Yai Junction 4:35pm. https://www.hatyaitoday.com/malaysia-train/ Someone asked a question about this a few days back, but I can't find the post. .
  6. The poor folk of Chana can 'input' their objections as much as they like but the government isn't about to listen.
  7. That depends on the currency pair. For USD the margin between buy and sell is so tight Wise is more expensive above about USD10,000. But for most currencies the margin is wide enough, that even including Wise's percentage fee, Wise still wins regardless the amount being sent. This is certainly true of the two currencies that concern me, Singapore $ and GBP. But it pays to do your own homework.
  8. Do as I do, keep my eyes open for anything new around town, see what's there on Google Maps, Hat Yai also has a couple of online news sites that do restaurant reviews. Then pick one and go try. Write up your experiences here.
  9. I doubt it, we live in a 4 storey shophouse in a row of shophouses that open onto a busy soi in Hat Yai. Been in this property 16 years, never a problem beyond someone very occasionally helping themselves to one of the wife's pot plants.
  10. It's never occurred to me until reading this thread. For visa applications, UK and Schengen, my wife has entered her given name and surname without the 'Mrs'.
  11. They've put notices up on the southern border crossings, and at the airport, warning people not to take any weed with them. It's upto 10 years in prison for possession in both Malaysian and Singapore and the death penalty for trafficking (>200g Malaysia, >500g Singapore). .
  12. They've put up big notices at the border and airport warning Malaysians and Singaporeans not to take any weed back with them. In Singapore marijuana possession can get you 10 years in prison, a $20,000 fine, plus a canning - more than 500g can get you the death penalty. In Malaysia 50g or less will get you 10 years in prison, more than 200g and you're considered a trafficker which means a mandatory death sentence.
  13. Exactly why you shouldn't leave it to the last minute - 'plan for the worst, hope for the best' as they say.
  14. You were remiss in leaving things to the last minute, the issue isn't with Wise, rather operator error.
  15. No, I was in my 40s, working in SE Asia and living in Thailand, when I joined this forum, I'm now in my 60s, semi-retired and living in Thailand. I think much of the membership has aged along with the forum. This format of social media is well past its prime, the forum is lacking in younger members precisely because of that.
  16. Indeed, you begin to wonder if a progressive state like California, which has a GDP in its own right similar to the UK, would wish to remain a part of the Union?
  17. That reminds of the tale of 'The Emperor's New Clothes' - the dishonest weavers offer to supply the Emperor with a magnificent set of clothes that are invisible to those who are too stupid or incompetent.
  18. I'm scratching my head trying to remember when was the last time I saw one of those used.
  19. Never heard of them. Not been through BHX since autumn 2019 due to Covid, but can't imagine much has changed. For Avis, Hertz, Europcar etc you go to the appropriate counter close by where you exit from arrivals. Do the paperwork and walk about 5 minutes from the terminal to the Hire Car Car Park, which is next to the entrance of Car Park 4. Find the hut for your hire company and get your keys. You can return to the vehicle to the same place. The issue is with Green Motion, not the airport. Seems Green Motion have their depot serving Birmingham Airport and Birmingham International on the station side. Hence the need to go from the airport to the station and shuttle to the collection point. https://greenmotion.co.uk/car-hire/united-kingdom/birmingham-international .
