  1. Not unusual here for postmen to pull that card stunt.

Recently i got a call from Banphai post office, please come and collect your parcel why? i ask your name is on the parcel in English, postman cannot read English. Hello i say is the address in English or Thai? Address is in Thai she says. Well he can read thai so deliver m parcel.

Parcel contained a tablet, easy to carry on motorbike.

Easy to carry on motorcycle but perhaps difficult to deliver willnot fit in mailbox. Thus it becomes a personal contact item. He may be only allowed to make a certain amount of personal calls on a given day and he may have had is quota for the day by the time he got to yours. many things involved here not easy to pint a finger.

  2. He probably carded it at the post office before leaving and just brought the card. Gave him a lighter load. I wouldnot take it personal. Its called priortitizing the mail. Common all over the world.

  3. If you get into the right village with the right neighbours, life is simple easy,no hassle, people are friendly. It beats foreigner ghettos in tourist trap centers. Where i live not quite Esaan but rural I have the best neighbours a man could want. Never intrude but always ready to help.8 oclock at night quiet and peaceful. Not one other foreigner around. No skinheads, styroid freaks,no drunks,no bargirls the list goes on.Good clean living people, who smile and are kind.

  4. Wind your necks in, chaps.

That squiggle at the end of my post is a question mark. I was asking if it's considered a racist term.

Although by the defensive replies I received, I'm guessing it probably is.

not racist at all, just the way aussies talk, shortening of words is very common in the aussie language, lebo - lebenese, itie - italian, aussie - australian, footy - football(real racist hey), frangi - frangipani, barbie - barbeque etc etc. Admittedly the way it is said can infer racism but in the greater majority of cases it is not meant in any derogatory way at all, using slang is just common in every country. I still use aussie slang ocassionally, noah - shark(noahs ark), china - mate(china plate), frog & toad - road, just a matter of prospective and probably which era you grew up in.
Yeah but it ain't the era you grew up in mate and in todays world any words based on race with derogatory connotations is racist. And it ain't any good decrying those peoples views, if its perceived Its there and therefore racist. The quicker people on this forum got to grips with that the better

Sent from my GT-I9000 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

You are probably right that race with derogatory connotations is racist. So get educated and understand that nationality is not race. Use the word racism when dealing with race not nationality.Racism is called much to often in the wrong context, people who do it should think before they speak.

  5. What's a 'lebo bloke?'

    Hazard a guess.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lebanese_Australians

    Oh I see. It's a racist term?

Just wondering how Yank, Pom, Aussie, Digger, Kiwi, Geordie, Lebbo, Falang & the like can be construed as racist.

They were all being used well before all this politically correct nonsense emerged.

I'm happy to answer to... Aussie, silly farang, ya old bastard,

Yes, sometimes a slang name might be used in a racist way, but in a lot of instances no malintent is intended.

    But then, just my opinion.

I agree with you 100% I feel terms like this is like nicknames for friends. It is simply a more relaxed way of talking.

I call myself a canuck or canucklehead or gringo or farang. means nothing just a word to recognise an individual. Many of my friends in life are japs, wops, kruats etc. and never in the whole time we have known each other has it been a problem to use those terms in each others presense.

  6. i like the (return the capital ,not return on capital) I already did that everything now in government protected quaranteed investments. not great returns but returns none the less.

Governments guarantee interest rates, but can dilute your capital by printing more money to pay you...?

You are probably right. But I am seeing a steady growth. The monies I invested from real estate has grown faster than real estate has grown. Could sell investments now and buy back same real estate and have money left over.So even if the money has lost value I have more of it than those who sat on their real estate. This is relative to where I am from and not other places. Now i feel the stock market is very dangerous for most people to invest. I know many people who live off the market. They are fairly low profile now. Lifestyle is changing. That said I am sure guys like Naam with all their knowledge will still prosper.in the market.

  7. I agree with him westerners are a problem. They come here want the same things as back home but cheaper. People should look for places that have what they want and go there. Not go somewhere and expect the country to change to their needs. I have watched Thailands culture and everyday lifestyle suffer because of change brought by selfish ,unknowledgeable foreigners coming here and wanting change. But of course the rest of the world suffers the same problem through immigration.Look at what is happening in Europe,America, etc.Foriegners come and so do problems.

  8. The arm of the Koh Tai mafia is long enough to reach into UK?

Theoretically yes. It would not be that hard to contact a family member or friend - one of the many Thai residing in the U.K.

Question is why would they be doing that?

I don't see where she says she was threatened in the UK & not Thailand....

"What if I told you that I have been sent crime scene photographs? What if I told you that I have been chased in my car?"

Yes - my point - she does not mention where these things happened.

You would think she meant the UK, getting chased in her car, would think she would have got the car number, colour?

roo860 everything you are concerned about does not need to be discussed on an open forum or FB, that can be saved for court if they catch the people doing it. Wait for it when it is really needed.

  9. I have no problem with anger being expressed. It is an emotion and get it out. Abusive on the other hand is for control, when reason is gone. Abusive posters want control and when they have no other way they abuse.

i think simply ignore abusive post ,no response no value in doing it.

Some guys live their lives being angry and abusive not only on the internet in all communication with others. I have met a few since coming to Thailand.

  10. This on going murder case makes me wonder if there are no limits in what thais will do to protect their own. When family members of crime victims are threatened in their home country, it is no longer just a Thailand problem. Thais seem to not know the boundaries. It appears to me by the actions of others in their treatment of the Witheridge family in their home country that it,is someone very rich and powerful in Thailand using intimidation and threats to end this.

This paints a picture that a relative comes to Thailand for a holiday is killed, you may be come a victim also by association.Instead of justice you get pursued and harassed.in your own home and country.Even if you donot holiday here you can become a victim of Thailand.

  11. You have to give this country respect. They refuse to be told what they can do by any nation. We maynot agree with them on how they see the world, but must respect them for saying they will defend their right to do it their way.The country may not be liked but should get respect for not letting foreign countries boss them around. They have their policies on governing and will defend it. The big powers need a roque nation like this to remind them they cannot control the whole world. They certainly do not kiss ass.

They feel they can be heard too and keep peace as long as no one makes problems in their area of the world.

  12. I donot know about others but i am finding it hard also to find the old ways. It seems to me that Thai people are embarassed about their old ways.My wife's family appears to try and forget or leave old Thailand behind them. They all want to be cosmopolitan. When I show an interest in village life as my wife knew when she was growing up,no one wants to share what happened back then.or maintain that way of life.

When i first came one village would have one small black and white TV ran on car batteries. Now cannot find a village without wifi.

25 or 30 years ago they wanted to stop hillside tribes from being mobile and crossing borders as they always did. So now they are forced to live in villages permanantly and go to school and work at new jobs. Cannot even find a real hillside tribe now never mind the old thailand with thai ways.

The closest I can come is where I live . Our neighbours old village families and retain most of their customs, but their children are a different breed. The new ones are selfish, self centered, demanding, disrespectful, undisciplined, and lazy.

I apologize for wandering off topic and being of no assistance in your search, but I am fairly sure what you are looking for is gone.I too seek it but it evades me.

  13. I have to say it is really a good experience to a have a Thai national come here and offer assistance and information.

I too have enjoyed practicing my Thai with many good accomodating taxi drivers.

I hope some day to meet Mr Kie as my driver.
