  1. The first year the wife and I were in our new house I was bitten so much I was ready to move back to the city. I have scars from some of the bites on my legs. I had coils burning every where sprayed, put on repellents, did everything to try and get it under control. Now mosquito bites mean nothing to me,but ants and spider bites still make me want to scratch. Now i take bites as part and parcel of life in rural Thailand.Ants seem to always find me.

  2. Neversure the house doesnot look derelict to me in the picture do you think the same? Grass looks ok everything painted, curtains on windows.I am sure there are a lot worse homes around than that one was. thanks for the pictures by the way.Probably no one will pay the courts will drag it out till he dies of old age.

Looks to be in an area of old houses. I think it was a neighbour problem.

  3. The better informed members here can help me with something this post brought to mind for me. I donot wish to disturb the post but wish to understand something here.

I always thought caddies knew the game and the player could even seek advice on how to play the hole or the situation. Even give advice on best club to use etc. Am I wrong on this?

  4. Are diplomats not allowed to speak in a diplomatic way? He simply stated an obvious western view point.. It was not an instruction but a western observation,as seen in western eyes.Statements such has his do not need influence Thai policy or governence . But I feel it should be understood by thai politicians and used to their advantage now and in the future rather than attack the messenger.

  5. I am not sure if this is of help or not but will try.

I always take the mrt subway to Silom and from there take a motorcycle taxi. You can actually walk from the subway station not far but need to know where you are going.

If I were you i would simply catch a taxi to the nearest mrt station. Go to Silom take the motorcycle to Embassy.

Bts has a stop at silom too if you take that it stops same place as the mrt subway it is an interchange station.

  6. Mass tourism is only destroying much of Southeast Asia. In a few more years it will look much the same as the place you left. More 7-11, Pizza Hut, KFC, Dairy Queen, Starbucks, McDonald's and resorts everywhere , Thailand is losing its charm and is attracting more and more very questionable and trashy looking foreigners. YUK ! YUK! and YUK!

I am with you I loved the old thailand before malls, fast food chains, cars and trucks every where.etc. I miss so many things that were unique to Thailand that are now gone. The women carrying things on a pole on their shoulders with a basket at each end of the pole. They would stop and make som tom right there on the sidewalk Warm weak tea in a glass when you had noodles.Pedal power samlors. The list goes on.Now it is just another wannabe cosmopolitan place. It now reminds me of a big city ghetto where Asians live any where in the world., it has lost its character and charm.

  7. I was drugged once about 25 years ago in Pattaya. I donot drink so not sure how they got it in me but they had me chewing gum a lot. Kept giving me gum. I was out for 25 hours should have killed me.Did police report never heard a thing. this was back when 3 or 4 deaths a week were happening in pattaya in similar ways. All attributed to heart failure.Young guys old guys and all in between heart failure.

    Your imagination.

Do you suffer from paranoia ?

Not sure what you mean here, by Your imagination. True story

    yes about 25 years ago.

Why do you ask about paranoia?

  8. To be expected about time people started to fight back

    Fight back?

"The most frequently targeted were women dressed in traditional Islamic attire"

Indeed, fight back against who? Attacking innocents makes them as radical as the people they despise.

The old days of turn the other cheek ,or 2 wrongs donot make a right are gone. When radicals kill innocent people now kill their inoccent see how it feels. Sure all the Muslims innocents who hide these radicals donot want to be targets well if a few get killed then they can feel our pain. Then may be they will stop helping the radicals when they suffer too. Their radicals kill innocents if people say we are just as bad then people are finding out war is hell whats new?

  10. Can a foreigner on a retirement visa purchase a vehicle on time? If not maybe allowing this would increase auto sales. In US, NOBODY (as far as I know) buys a vehicle with cash. Here it seems like this is a requirement.

"...In US, NOBODY (as far as I know) buys a vehicle with cash."

Hello, meet "Nobody." I'll introduce you to some of my "nobody" friends, too. IMHO only suckers pay interest to banks and finance companies.

    Cheers.

In the US, used cars cost the same as a brand new motorbike here...

WOW. That is not my experience, and I was born/raised in USA. Used cars are so so cheap in US. One very large used/new car dealer in PA, USA is Reedman. They sell cars there at unbelievably reasonable prices. For fun someone could go to their web page and verify my claim. I'd like to see the data on your view.

Cannot say for US but Canada my older brother had used car lots. Cars 2 to 6 years old sure are more than motorcycles here but go over 6 years old can buy them cheap. $500 to $2000 you can get a reliable car if you look around no problem, that translates to 14000 baht to 58,000 baht

  11. I don't think there will be a difference, as long as the student don't see why they need to speak it.

They has to learn why they have to speak English and I think this is the missing brick

In our part of the world we don't use native English speakers as teachers

You can pull a horse to the water, but you can't force it to drink wink.png

You are absolutely right. It doesnot matter who teachs them english. At the present time few care to learn it and donot bother to learn it no matter who is their teacher. The students know they donot need to speak english to pass so they play and donot study.

The beautiful part about the english language is a person can make many mistakes well using it and others still understand what is meant.

By the way the quote is

You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink.

  12. Do I understand this correctly. Any time i leave the house and stay the night somewhere else I need to fill out forms. If I go to Bangkok to the embassy i must let immigration know.I am away from my home. Sounds a bit harsh to me.If I go Kah Kha camping how do I do that one, willnot know even what camp ground. They want to know where we are every night? seems like a lot of paper work for them and us.

That would be utter madness and I can't imagine any immigration office would be able to deal with that amount of paperwork.

I feel the same but TIT and what all these posters have been saying about forms boggles my mind. If the preposted posters are right about this looks like many of us are going to the attitude adjustment center right soon..
