  1. ^Yep, seems to be a more 'upcountry' phenomenon with the noise pollution thing.

Living in a busy area of Rayong, it's at least quiet of a night time and I usually get a decent night's sleep before work in the morning, same as most of the neighbours, I guess.

If you live upcountry, I doubt there is much you can do to prevent noise. Even industrial ear-plugs don't muffle the bass 'kick' from those huge speakers. Maybe get in some power-naps or "siestas" like the locals during day time?

Yep, the whole Koh Chang experience is being destroyed by Bangkokians who drive for a one night trip, just to take a couple of selfies on white sand beach and/or inaugurate their red plates. While this could easily fixed if people weren't allowed to take their cars to the island for shorter stays.

The queues are always bad at "long weekend" national holidays, and actual weekends starting on Fridays.

I've never had any problems when avoiding these time frames.

  3. Last 20 years? -Personally speaking, I grew up a bit, got married, finally became a father in my 40's. Still working at the company I started here, nearly 30 years ago. Drink a lot less than I used to do, and exercise a lot more.

I go back to the UK at least once a year to visit family and friends, and see a lot of change. Mostly not for the better, imo.

Still, it does give me a better perspective of life here in Thailand, and reduces any mountains back into molehills on an annual basis.

Ah yes, the Tak Bai incident where the military fired their guns up to the sky and the bullets came down and killed people in the crowd.  That is what the former PM in exile gave as an excuse at the time.  Before attending an ASEAN summit shortly after he did announce that if anyone brings up Tak Bai he would walk out.

Yes, the actual videos of the start of this massacre were on Youtube which his govt actually banned for a short while.

This lethal Lao Khao they make is sold at most Ma and Pa shops, it is deadly and yet it continues unabated. from 10b a small MI I5 bottle, so many die from continued use. But the local police do nothing except maybe take a backhander.

It's maybe toxic by design. An unemployment / pension solution.

Why only in Bangkok and why only vehicles.. In my province you can here bonk bonk bonk from miles away if there is a party or concert. Only the bass, I don't understand why Thai people like to here bass only and in the cars more noise than a club in the western world.

The louder and more bass-heavy the better.. Usually find that the cost of the sound system is inversely proportional to their bad taste in music. ????

  7. For me it's Kaeng Liang (pumpkin curry), Pad Siew Moo (pork & veg w/ large noodles), and my go-to favourite; Phad Krapow Gai, Kai Dao (Chicken, basil on rice with a fried egg). It's usually the first meal I order any time I come back to Thailand.
