Sugar is a big culprit here, no question. Thais put it in most cooked foods and it's obviously in all the processed product food also. Obesity here is nowhere near as a lot of other (Western) countries, but the levels of diabetes here is worrying. Thais enjoy 'snacking' between meals, contributing to insulin and blood sugar levels that are off the charts.

There is a certain demographic of Pitbull ownership. Yep, was an early eye-opener for me too, read it shortly after arriving here 30 years ago. What has changed in that time is the freedom of the press here. There used to be quite a healthy public and press regarding politics, corruption, etc in the 80's-90's. Since then it's been all draconian crackdowns, (probably started by Thaksin pulling advertising from any media outlets critical of his governance). Similarly surprised that this book is still on the shelves.
