  1. I used to get Gout, and after a couple of years replaced Celebrex with the much better Voltaren (50 or 75 mg tabs). The Celebrex gave me stomach problems among other side effects.

Voltaren is very effective as an anti-inflammatory with no side effects (for me).

(I got rid of gout for good, by using baking soda and other alkaline foods to bring down Uric acid levels).

Its got nothing to do with politics, as you seem to think!

Any country just printing vast amounts of money over an extended period raises the infation rate, which really benefits no one!

Isn't the US floating a CBDC (central bank digital currency) later this year? Digitizing the dollar?

    Should be erm, interesting.

I can highly recommend KUMON. At least the one where our daughter studies. In fact, there are a lot of children there from the expensive International schools doing classes as well. Our local one offers Mathematics, Thai and English lessons. We are not in your area though.

    But back to Maths.

Our one started around age six, twice a week doing very basic single digit addition. Once mastered,  on to subtraction, then multiplication, then division

Now just turned ten she is subtracting fractions, having already mastered adding them. She hasn't even started fractions in school yet.

During Covid when I could watch her doing online lessons, the teacher was giving her 4-digit x 4-digit multiplication. When she asked, "Teacher. Why am I the only one doing these?" She was told," Because you are the only one in the class that can do them."

She must be several months ahead of her school classmates. She grumbles sometimes about the work. A bit of homework to begin with, but I instilled in her "Kumon time". Just crack on and get it done.

Now she rarely gets Kumon homework.

    Another story:

I was speaking to someone I know. He told me his daughter, now at university, had been through  the entire Kumon maths program from start to finish. He said she was way, way ahead of any of her co-students.

Thanks for that. We had a private tutor teaching my 10yo son math, but now not available.

Will take a look at the Kumon system. ????

I've been told that what happened in 1997 was that a few elite among the Thai bankers had been corrupt (one of whom was recently in the news having been sentenced for his part), and had deprived the banks of most of their holdings in foreign currencies.  Not being backed by the gold standard, and having no ability to buy back their baht, when the IMF floated some baht, Thai banks were unable to purchase back their own currency--quickly devaluing it.  The baht went from 32 baht/dollar to about 57 baht/dollar overnight.  This had little to do with any particular foreign currency as a standard against the baht--the baht could have been redeemed in pounds, marks, or other currencies.  It had everything to do with corruption and improper preparation for market stability of the Thai currency.

Because Thailand's economy is central to many economies in the region, the entire Southeast Asian region suffered a tremendous blow--reaching as far as to Australia.

Asian financial crisis, major global financial crisis that destabilized the Asian economy and then the world economy at the end of the 1990s.

The 1997–98 Asian financial crisis began in Thailand and then quickly spread to neighbouring economies. It began as a currency crisis when Bangkok unpegged the Thai baht from the U.S. dollar, setting off a series of currency devaluations and massive flights of capital.

The "Buffet Governments" of Gen. Chavalit, and earlier Banharn were mostly responsible for not having enough currency to support the peg, after acquiring a lot of foreign debt (from IMF and World Bank), but there were a lot of other factors:

Credit bubbles and fixed currency exchange rates

The causes of the debacle are many and disputed. Thailand's economy developed into an economic bubble fueled by hot money. More and more was required as the size of the bubble grew. The same type of situation happened in Malaysia and Indonesia, which had the added complication of what was called "crony capitalism".[8] The short-term capital flow was expensive and often highly conditioned for quick profit. Development money went in a largely uncontrolled manner to certain people only – not necessarily the best suited or most efficient, but those closest to the centers of power.[9] Weak corporate governance also led to inefficient investment and declining profitability.[10][11]

In the mid-1990s, Thailand, Indonesia and South Korea had large private current account deficits, and the maintenance of fixed exchange rates encouraged external borrowing and led to excessive exposure to foreign exchange risk in both the financial and corporate sectors.

  5. I stay in Rayong for work, and school for for my son. My missus has a business here also. When I retire in a few years I've mulled moving to other parts of the country, but not sure if I'd want to live there permanently. (Rayong is close enough to Pattaya and U-Tapao airport for travel, shopping, etc.).

Chiang Mai is a favorite place to stay and we have friends there, but don't want to be there during the 'burning season' for example.

One of the good things about Thailand is the cheap internal transport, domestic flights and accommodation available here. You can travel around and scout out places to live, or vacation, even on a tight budget.

I think if you have a closer look what they are selling on Lazada, though they look convincing is an actual photo of an air rifle / pistol for between 200-500 baht. 100s of ads. I almost got duped my self, looks very convincing but amongst the fine print / description you will find you are buying a print of the said air rifle

I did a recent search on Lazada for "powerful air rifles" that produced a lot of BB pistol, and both break-barrel / spring and CO2 loading guns in the 5-20k price range, including known brands like Airsoft, Colt, etc.

I honestly don't know if the products are genuine or not. -I'd personally always elect to see before I buy a rifle, and even try firing it before I bought it. Caveat Emptor, and all that.

I looked into this sometime ago and I think there is no law covering BB guns and thats not to say they are legal either. We have a BB gun shop near our home and I see them for sale in markets and on Lazada. I think one thing is illegal is carrying them or displaying them in public. They look great but even the gas powered ones are pretty weak and inaccurate. I would love a .17 rifled (air rifle pellet) one. I reckon they would be much better

Available on Lazada. In calibre .22 or .177 air rifles available.

Like so many others. How about 'Fortress Australia'? Forbade entry AND exit to its own citizens for more than a year, and now ...

From 9 September 2022, masks are no longer required on flights travelling to Australia.

From July 6 2022, the way you travel to and from Australia has changed. All travellers should be aware that:

    - People entering Australia do not need to provide evidence of vaccination status

That's soooo 2021. The next Big Thing will be along shortly..
