  1. I agree with you that it is unfair, but we are visitors here. At least you can get drinks for the price of admission, instead of losing it all to pay a fee where you get nothing back like back home. That is Thai style and it is better than a lot of other countries and a lot of other places. Things are not perfect here, but they are pretty darn good. :)

Don't agree with 'being a visitor' after living here for 10 years, I think that's called 'expat', and a tourist is a visitor, someone who comes and goes without leaving footsteps. Expats run businesses here (some of the best running restaurants and other businesses in Chiangmai are owned by foreigners) we join NGO's, have Thai wives & children, build houses for families, send children to schools... Just in the local, generally xenofobic mind we will be strangers forever no matter our donations, and never get much position, but that is not in every country !

Just a very protective culture to deal with, no problem. I have a Filipina partner, 2 Burmese workers and I enjoy my job a lot :D

  2. For a worker, housekeeper etc. I suggest bring a visit to one of the Burmese Churches in Chiangmai, there you will find someone easy. Best time is Sunday at 1 pm after the service.

The regular Burmese Church is at the old road CM to Sankampeng, halfway between the 1st and 2nd ringroad on the left side, behind the abandoned Q8 pumpstation, take the soi 10 meter furtheron, 30m inside.

The Birmese Lisu Church is right behind the Wat Gate pumpstation (that's opposite Good View restaurant) just go behind the pumtstation there's the Lisu Church

The past 5 years found various good workers that way.

PM me if you need some useful phonenumbers.

  3. The topic of double charging has been done many times on this forum, it happens, accept it or not - up to you. You pays your money, you make's your choice but let's not let this thread degenerate into a Thailand bashing context because then it will have to be closed.

Guess still all posts make sense, nothing of Thailand bashing am I right or am I wrong.

Also foreigners can be blamed for beeing treated like (fill in by yourself), I know a Skandinavian guy who standard gives 1.000 baht tip after a Thai massage (and when he is drunk he loves to brag about it) I think this is sick, even arrogant and just demanding attention, no suprise foreigners are easy seen as crazy and 'too easy money'.

Usually we can know where to expect rip offs... 2 weeks ago I paid 200 or more for a real discusting spaghetti bolognese, where ? On the Nightbazar of Chiangmai... Just a week later I had (really) the best spaghetti bolognese ever, and for only 160b, where ? At the Italian just in my own town.

We choose, and I won't go to Puke ket.

  4. You know... double pricing is not something that is only found in Thailand.

Hawaii, for instance, has had a double pricing system for ever. Locals are given the coveted "locals" card to receive lower prices on everything...

I don't hear a lot of bitching about Hawaii...

In China they have triple pricing: (from bottom to top) a price for locals, a price for non-local Chinese, a price for foreigners, on the other side a Chinese who commits a crime against a foreigner gets extra punishment.

Guess here it's just their whole attitude against foreigners even from the gov, they really think they are best of the world, but see what they produce nothing but crap, their annoying complacency.

Totally not aware nor interested in the suffering in the world, not learned to count their blessings just self centered, never satisfied and always complaining even about themselves, the 'me no beautiful me black' syndrome, telephone no have money and 'you buy give me' attitude.

But don't steal from me please.

  5. just show your Thai driving license

My work permit did the trick. :)

Hey thanks for the comment tonitit, perhaps you could make another when you have a little less time :D

Why so much hassle, show workpermit etc. come on...

Just drop 50b on the counter with a smile, then look the bitch in the eyes as if you say 'if you dare...' and walk away, with a smile again, always works, she got the message. If you end up in a conflict with some dumb official and no choice then adding the 35b just smash it on the ground, they really really hate to kneel for you ! When it's a cop however never do this.

Some of them you really need to keep short, no respect they made me even when for just 1 bath.

I refuse that nooo-I'm-stupid-again feeling, no more !

It's so important to always keep focusing on the nice things, the nice people and there are enough (and avoid Phuket I guess, never liked that place) but no more mindfukkers within my circle please.

  6. I have a small sticker which if you stick it on your phone it will protect you from the deadly calls.Of course it is not cheap but better that then risking to die on your next phone call isn't it.It has proved to work 100% as nobody who used the sticker has died yet.

Can someone forward my PM to the northern people please.Commission available for whole sellers.

Let me guess... you buy those stickers in a temple :)

  7. When in Carrefour the system price is higher then the mentioned price you get the product for free, happened to me several times.

Indeed many errors, so I started to write the prices on the packages with a CD-writer, then it's easy to check when at the cassier :)

wonder if they get wrong pricing on a big ticket item

It may be worth to check some flat TV's and motorbikes from time to time :D

  8. Definitely a royal personage passing through. Probably from Hua Hin to BKK to visit the King.

Yeah those royal peeps defenitely have no idea what 'trafficjam' means.. They have never seen it :) only 'in movies'

Always amazing how the police coördinates this, they seem pretty stressful though when someone -often a tourist- tries to cross the street etc !

Well... just wait and don't forget to wave (or wai) to the créme colored cars in the middle.

  9. My son is using This service and he is very happy as far as reliability and customer support is concerned, though they appear to be quite costly for the higher end packages.

I am using bizland.com in the US at $120 per year and am very satisfied.

    opalhort

    :):D:D $120 per year ????????????? Wow that's a real rip-off !!!! With one.com you pay only $1,45 per month.....

  10. Did you check the sender ?

Right of the 'reply' button (upper right of the message) click on the blue arrow, choose 'show original' from the dropdown list and check the 'to' and 'from' info.

Important is to never reply to such message because then you confirm your active e-mail address that's what they probably do it for !

This 'replies' are of high value for spamcompanies.

Some extra info for safe email use:

NEVER use someones e-mail address for groupmails if you don't know how to do this properly, to prevent private e-mails starting to circulate on the internet often ending up on the valuable list of a spam company. When sending group mail always use the 'BCC address field' only then addresses are protected from being visable to others, in the 'TO address field' you enter your own e-mail address. Many thanks from someone who hates spam like you do !

    ---

When you see an e-mail that says forward this on to '10' of your friends, or sign this petition, for good luck, or whatever, it almost always has an e-mail tracker program attached that tracks cookies and e-mails of the people you forward to. The host sender gets a copy each time it is forwarded and then is able to get lists of active e-mails adresses to use in spam e-mails, or sell to other spammers.

You can do your friends and family members a great favor by sending this information to them, you will be providing a service to your friends, and will be rewarded by not getting thousands of spam e-mails in the future !

To keep your PC running well I suggest this 4 free downloads that go on with eachother well:

    http://www.iobit.com/advancedwindowscareper.html (cache deepcleaner)

    http://www.free-av.com/ (antivirus)

    http://www.ccleaner.com/ (cachecleaner)

    http://www.malwarebytes.org/index.php (anti malware)

Run CCleaner everyday, run Iobit when you suspect a virus has entered your system, run Avira permanently and run Malwarebytes 1 time per day.

  11. My favorite dentist is an American guy -of very respectable age, 90 !!!- right opposite Sansai Market. He is inexpensive and very good (cheaper and better then my previous Thai dentist)

Coming from Chiangmai-east pass (soi to) Arcade busstation, cross 1st and 2nd ringroad, after 50 meters trafficlights again, U-turn, back 30 meters, there he is next to the drugstore. Closed on Friday and Saturday.

  12. 'hair looking like a parrakeet's arse feathers' :):D did it look not OK for you ?

This one: at the nitebazar, go to the trafficlights at Pantip Plaza, go left, after a 100 meter or so you pass a 7Eleven, 30 meter or so futheron under the trees (and right opposite a soi) there is a very good hairsalon, a mensjob cost 150 bath, he is gay (but harmless :D ), he is very friendly, he has won awards in Bangkok, just a modern no nonsense hairdresser.

    Do it.

Thanks a lot is that left at Pantip if you are coming from Thapae road?

yes at the trafficlights go left (narrow sidewalk with trees) pass the 7Eleven, after 30 meter look for the barbershop sign and red sofas inside. Concrete table outside and massageshop next door, can't miss.
