Why are westerners so offended over the word farang? Get over it.
GinBoy2 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
We're falling into the rabbit hole here. My son is clearly Asian American, he ticks that box on the census. I'm Hispanic American, proudly so and since we're soon to be the majority, get over it whities. ....oops that's got to be derogatory too -
Why are westerners so offended over the word farang? Get over it.
GinBoy2 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Apart from the occasional post on here, I've never found anyone offended by the word. My wife will call me a farang, I'll call myself a farang with Thai's. My son will call himself a luk keung, both me and his Mom call him a luk keung, I don't think either of us are offended. So what exactly is the problem or is this just clickbate? -
Fourteen women file sexual abuse complaints against ex-Democrat Prinn
GinBoy2 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Well neither of us are gonna get many 'likes' for our views. My wife is from Isaan, but through becoming an orphan at 12 ended up in the US with her Uncle & Aunt. So she straddles both worlds. But as in a vast majority of NE families she has family in the 'entertainment' business. I remember several years ago meeting one of the 'far family' and I'm no threat, no potential customer telling me that many of them just take the drugs to kinda blot out what they are actually doing. She sat there telling me and my wife of her life. Sleeping with old fat ugly farangs turned her stomach, but she needs the money. So convince yourself of what you need to, but don't in any way convince yourself that the experience for the majority of these women is anywhere near enjoyable -
Thai Tourism Industry Hopes for More Chinese Travelers in October
GinBoy2 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
My predication, and its only that is Chinese tourist is pretty much dead for at least another 12 months. We were planning to visit a friend of mine this year in Shanghai, known him for 20 years from the days when I lived there. Two things, basically we can't get in. Foreign inbound travel is essentially blocked. Secondly as my friend says, they have crappy domestic vaccines which don't work so every time an outbreak happens they resort to draconian lockdowns, which he and his wife are currently experiencing in Pudong right now to try to enforce the 'zero covid' policy. We video chatted yesterday, via a VPN of course since if he dared to say some of this stuff publicly he's be arrested. They are struggling to get food and water delivered, and this is in the most prosperous city in China! So yeah, the Chinese will be flocking back to save TAT!!!! -
Thai/American Citizenship for Child (1/4 Thai)
GinBoy2 replied to CrashTestDummy's topic in Family and Children
Ethnicity means nothing in citizenship, generally. Regardless of what Mom is or isn't both of you are US citizens, hence the child is US citizen. Register the birth with the US embassy, job done the child is a US citizen -
Ah Yes that was Nymph

US: TIN for wife. How much hassle? + 1 SS ?
GinBoy2 replied to TheScience's topic in US & Canada Topics and Events
It always took a while for the IRS to process ITINS, even before the whole Federal bureaucracy went into collective cardiac arrest during covid. We got an ITIN back in I think 2015, and if memory serves me right , it was 4-6 months before I heard anything -
Its a little addictive and some of us the 'that' kind of personality become easily obsessed with it
-
I totally get that

Only 21 hours 11 minutes until the next word. Buckle Up people!
-
It is such a stupid fun game, but its cocaine for nerds. I can't wait for midnight and a new word. I'm a bit of a chronic insomniac and found myself watching the countdown timer to midnight for the next word the other day
-
My starter word is irate, but I know many folks use adieu. I did get lucky with my second random word since it eliminated more got me one letter in the right place
-
I always use the same starter word, which today turned up zilch letters. Little worrying, but it eliminated 5 letters, and then i just went on to a random word which got rid of another three and then the word choices came down to 2. Wordle 298 3/6* ⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜ ⬜????⬜⬜???? ????????????????????

I think Mrs G still kinda digs me. But she's a little menopausal, and one minute she's all over me next minute in the midst of a hot flash i'm repulsive lol. But sex aside which is still great, life together is still everything I want, since at this point in my life, yes I'm still sexually active, but I really want a partner to share my life with. We have our kids, soon to have our first Grandchild, which couldn't make me happier Oh the joy of living with women, and a Thai woman at that just to add to the 'fun' lol And since I've never said this before, I'm 62, Mrs G is 50
-
Hard question to answer. But if you think of it in farang terms, whats the usual age range of partners. I'd guess somewhere in the 0-15 year age gap is usual and socially acceptable. I struggle with the concept that a 20 something woman from anywhere is going to be physically attracted to a man 50+ let alone in his 60's or 70's
-
I kinda get all that, and I'm pretty sure there are academics who have spent their whole lives trying to explain human sexuality, probably with little success. To wrap to whole 'east' into one bucket doesn't work. The attitudes to sex are often based on power and wealth. A woman in Singapore, Japan or South Korea has values much more aligned with a woman in the West. They are educated, have money and have their own careers. The Mia Noi and older/farang really does boil down to a power/money thing. You can wrap it up however you want, and I'm not denying that in some cases true love might be there, but you can't escape the fact the poor women will do whatever it takes to escape poverty
-
Interesting perspective, but wouldn't the same hold true for men? I can't really comment personally since in my whole life I have had a few dozen sexual partners, and the same is true for my wife. Don't think either of us feel any the worse for not leading a f****ck a night kinda lifestyle. Whether or not made us better sexual partners than a man/woman that did have that lifestyle I have no clue

I play Wordle most days along with friends with work. We started a facebook group and share our efforts. No it's not the NYT crossword puzzle, but thats half the attraction. Fairly simple to play and that once a day thing gets you hooked. Got my first 2/6 today. Wordle 294 2/6* ????????????????⬜ ????????????????????

There is a kinda nice flipside to this. Our son is a bit of a handsome devil. He moved to the US for college, and seemed to have quite the social life based on my stalking of his social media accounts, not that he was ever going to tell me or his Mom about his romantic adventures! He's now happily hooked up with his soon to be wife, but that dusky male lukung look can work very well in western society too
-
Well we got 14 pages of this, and clearly we split into tribes. There some of us who marry Thai women in middle age, close in age and look forward to in many cases decades of marriage and children Then you have the older guys who have no problem with a woman who is young enough to be their Granddaughter, where who knows how long it can last. I have my own opinions on this, but I'm not gonna judge, we all make our own moral judgements. I'm not completely sure how Thai's really view it, and cut the <deleted> about Buddhist culture and fidelity. I speak perfect Thai and Lao, and I've overheard enough snide comments to believe it's not really 'alright', and they tolerate the money aspect of the relationship, just like they do the Mia Noi thing. Then worst of all, take a massively age gap wife back to mystical farang land, and you will be in serious mail order bride territory. The worst part of of that scenario, is that 20/30 something woman might well discover young 20/30 something men with the same financial resources as 60/70 farang!
-
Well neither of us are gonna get many likes for our opinions. But I've opined in many of my posts that 'some' relationships do border on the creepy. But on a more practical everyday, just living with life what are these relationships like? What do they talk about, what do they do together? I'm not trying to cast judgement. But and Mrs G are kinda close in age. We like the same TV shows (exclude the Thai Lakorns for me), the same 80's music, we ain't into nightclubs anymore, bedtime might mean cocoa and our usual argument over who is gonna clean up the kitchen before we go to bed. I'm not sure that that kinda mundane life things really work in a wide age difference.
-
Well it's somewhat true that that people change their minds and opinions over time. I know for one what I held as Gospel truth in my 20's can be a far cry from what I think and believe in my 60's. But you are some right folks never change. I'm always struck by the quote from Bukowski, which I think rings true. “The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence.”
