  1. Thanks FJB 24. You probably saved my bacon! I already use TOT and bridge to my ASUS WRT router and was thinking of changing because their IPTV no longer has many (or any) programs in English. Do you know how may LAN ports there on the new True router? Thanks again.
  2. Why on earth does Advice (computer online shop) block UK IPs??
  3. I am thinking of changing from TOT (as was) to True for my internet connection - they supply a router - 2 questions: 1. Does anyone know if it can operate in bridge mode? 2. Does it or True at some point block encrypted traffic e.g. a VPN? Thanks
  4. Returned to Thailand on Tuesday 7th Dec and I just thought I would share my experience. Flew Manchester to Bangkok via Dubai Emirates check in was slow and they wanted to see all documents relating to the Thai pass (PCR test result, insurance etc.) – but no request to see onward flight (which I had) even though I was “visa on entry” and my return was 60 days). The flight was as expected (both flights pretty full and somewhat late) but as an aside I would say the meals were substandard for Emirates who I used to rate very highly in that area. On arrival in Bangkok we were greeted by a long line of blue chairs where the entry documents were pre-checked (only really interested in the Thai Pass QR and the negative PCR). Next on to the formal Thai pass entry gate where again they only wanted to see the above two documents plus the flight boarding card. Then on to immigration – I have been coming to Thailand for 10 years and never have I got through immigration so quick only one person in front of me!!! After immigration on to the hotel tables in arrivals to register and wait for transport to the hospital for a Covid test then to the hotel for check in - I waited no more than 15 minutes for the transport – I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Sukhumvit 11 - the total package Pick-up, Covid Test, room and 3 meals cost me £100 (4000 Baht approx) and I usually stay in a hotel about 100 meters away for 700 Baht but when you consider that in the UK my PCR test cost £55 (more than 2000 Baht) I think under the circumstances the £100 wasn’t too bad. I got my “No Covid Detected message” at 10pm. Stayed the night and the following morning got my certificate and set off for my destination. All in all, a reasonably smooth and painless experience. 10/10 to all concerned.
  5. Just returned from UK after 2 years (you know why) to discover that my IPTV with TOT (as was) appears to have NO programs in English. I am aware that Disney dropped supplying content to Asia but it appears to me that i am now getting a lot less for the same money so I am looking to either: 1. Drop TOT (I can't remember the new company name after the merger) completely and sign up with an ISP who can provide English language content. OR 2. Find some alternative way (satellite?, other form of content provider? All sensible suggestions/opinions appreciated. Thanks
  6. Hello previously I was advised: "You wouldn't even need a tourist visa given that you have money in Thai bank in your name. You could enter visa exempt and obtain a non O based on retirement. The 800k needs to be in the bank on the day you apply. That gives you a 90 day stamp. In the last 30 days of that period obtain a 12 month extension." Can anyone tell me if during the 90 days of non O based on retirement (ie the period before the extension is applied for) I am allowed to leave the country and return - obviously with the appropriate re-entry visa? Thank you.
  7. Thanks everybody now I get it - I'm afraid I'm the sort of person who doesn't like doing things at the last minute but I guess on this occasion that's what I'll have to do!
  8. Thanks for all your replies but that's not exactly what I asked. I asked: I’m new to this concept so could anyone who has used this process please give me some advice on which have been successful (For example one site says “tickets valid for 48 hours or 14 days” – onward ticket.com), so that would seem not to be useful as I need a ticket to be valid for about 30 days from my date of entry? Or am I misunderstanding this process?
  9. Well my Thai pass is confirmed – a remarkably smooth process in 5 days. So I’m due to travel on 6 December and my return flight is early Feb (I plan to at least get the 30 day extension on my visa free 30 day entry but maybe try to re-instate my retirement visa extension which expired in my forced absence.) Anyway, I now see from other posts that I may have problems with my check in (Emirates) as visa free is initially 30 days and my return ticket is 60 days . So, I read on other posts about buying onward tickets from specialist web sites. I’m new to this concept so could anyone who has used this process please give me some advice on which have been successful (For example one site says “tickets valid for 48 hours or 14 days” – onwardticket.com), so that would seem not to be useful as I need a ticket to be valid for about 30 days from my date of entry? Or am I misunderstanding this process? Help/pointers appreciated.
  10. I I don't know when you downloaded your Scottish NHS Covid cert - originally no QR code BUT now it has so I advise you to re-download. Also Scottish NHS say they won't include any Booster info - very short sighted in my opinion.
  11. Apologies for my error and thanks Crossy for "uncrossing" my wires - i know you are good at that from when I was building my house!????
  12. How long did it take to get the confirmation email?
  13. I go all the way through entering data when I get to last page where it says other countries visited It shows UK greyed out and it has the dreaded circle with a red line when I do submit I get this error (see attachment). I've tried it twice once with Mozilla and once with Edge - same error both times. Anyone have any ideas what is causing this.
  14. And which thread is that please?. There seems to be a lot of other questions about what is necessary to enter Thailand with a Thai Pass on the Thai Visas thread which is where I thought I made the post.
  15. Forgive my paranoia but so many things can go wrong with the Thai Pass process so. I have a paper based Covid-19 Certificate issued by the Scottish NHS - it contains only my name, DOB and the information about the two Pfizer jabs I have had. And it actually says "this document is not proof of identity!!" Has anyone submitted a similar document as proof of Covid-19 Vaccination and had it accepted? I can see huge issues with the lack of a link to my passport or indeed a photo id Incidentally, I have had a third Pfizer "Booster" and I am told that the powers that be do not intend to add it to any new certificate - crazy.
  16. Sure but I live a long way from test centres and if you do a home test which takes at least 48 hours and then get a no result then you are stuffed as there is no time to get another. So for me an on site test is better as it can be redone in that event. - just being cautious as there are too many points where all this can go wrong Knowing Thai bureaucracy as I do the key question is this: If the Thai medical assessors/immigration at the entry airport in Bangkok see a certificate that says "Rapid RT-PCR" test instead of "RT-PCR" test - will they accept it? Incidentally I believe the Rapid PCR test at Manchester Airport - via Collinsons costs £66 using the MANTEST code see below
  17. At Manchester airport UK it is possible to get PCR test results after 24/48 hours and a rapid PCR test - result after 3 hours. On checking with the testing station they say the Rapid test will state that it is a rapid PCR test and the 24/48 result PCR test will just say PCR test. Does anyone know if the Thai authorities will accept the rapid PCR test results.
  18. OK One final piece of advice please. If I have a return ticket with say a return date of 3 months after entry will I still get a Thai Pass for a visa on entry and indeed be allowed to enter by immigration (i ask this because Emirates will allow that ticket to be changed for up to 24 months after initial travel date so after getting the non imm-O (and a multiple re-entry stamp) I could use the return half later.
  19. Yes but what happens about medical cover when. I apply for 30 day extension OR apply for the Non-O
  20. Thanks Salerno just one follow up does that mean I can then apply for the retirement visa extension in the second 30 day period?
  21. I had lived in Thailand for around 8 years on work permits and retirement visa extensions previously but lost my retirement visa extension as I was in the UK when lockdown started and could not renew it. I have been separated from my Thai partner (not wife) for nearly 2 years so I’m looking forward to getting back. Are there any opinions as to which way is the best. – here is some, maybe relevant, information. I’m 77 years old (which may be relevant re health insurance costs) I have 800K Baht which has been sitting in my Thai bank account for 2 years. So what is the best/easiest/most cost effective way of returning? 1. 1. Get a retirement visa over here. 2. 2. Enter on a tourist visa, do the extensions and then apply for the retirement visa. 3. 3. Other possibilities? Any pointers appreciated.
  22. An interesting discussion but totally incomprehensible to me as I do not know what all the abbreviations actually mean - "In addition, under visa requirements it states 40/400K for O and O-X visas and none for O-A, clearly a mistake. The 40/400 was for O-A and O-X and nto for O;" Can some one give me a link to where I can find out what the emboldened above actually mean in practise. Thanks
  23. Thailand will allow fully vaccinated visitors from low-risk countries to enter the kingdom without quarantine from Nov 1 as a key effort by the government to boost the economy. So if I fly from the UK many flights are not direct having transfers in either the middle east or India Whilst the UK starting point may allow quarantine free entry what about the transfer in a non listed quarantine country?
